Craniocervical Instability (CCI) is often missed by doctors and radiology imaging reports, yet it is a very serious and debilitating condition to have. It often occurs with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), but can also occur from injury.
The correct diagnostic testing for CCI/AAI are upright cervical MRI with flexion and extension and a rotational cervical CT scan. It is very important that these tests are ordered correctly. Most doctors are not trained on identifying CCI, and it is often missed.
Unfortunately, there are only a handful of specialists that know how to diagnose and treat these conditions.
Those I know of are:
Dr. Ross Hauser (Florida) - I received prolotherapy treatments from him in 2022 with really good success. Many have avoided surgery this way.
Dr. Fraser Henderson (Maryland)
Dr. Paolo Bolognese (New York)
Dr. Sunil J. Patel (South Carolina)
Dr. Faheem Sandhu (Washington DC)
Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield (New York)
Dr. Gilete (Spain)
Dr. Robert Rosenbaum (Maryland)
I wish you all the best in your journey to finding answers!
