Lightning To The Nations 2020, available now at: smarturl.it/DHLTTN2020
When Diamond Head first released Lightning To The Nations 40 years ago in 1980, few could have predicted the importance it would carry with regards to heavy metal’s new wave and sound. Stacked and packed with riffs, Lightning To The Nations would be one of the prime catalysts for a movement known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).

Re-imagined, re-recorded and re-born in 2020, Diamond Head’s forthcoming 40-year celebration of their genre-defining debut album is a scintillating shot of fresh metal energy. With Lightning To The Nations 2020 listeners experience not only the rare phenomenon of crisp, fresh and new sounding songs with very little of the obvious original elements altered, they will also be treated to four supreme cover versions… And in prime position stands Metallica’s ‘No Remorse’.
Recorded over several sessions between various locations, from France to band members’ home studios, Lightning To The Nations 2020 central hub was Andersen’s Raw Sound Studios in London. It’s where Brian and Abbz did the guitars in February and March of this year, and then with the COVID-19 chaos striking, Andersen worked on the album between April and July, with Tatler’s watchful ear inspecting final mixes and tweaks in early August before sending off to mastering at Metropolis Studios in London.
This edition of the album sees Diamond Head spreading their wings and creating the heaviest of homages also to Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest and Deep Purple. Lightning To The Nations 2020 (November 27th 2020, Silver Lining Music). Available in multiple formats, special D2C bundles, including a limited edition autographed ‘No Remorse’ poster: smarturl.it/DHLTTN2020

@@wrayven Have you ever seen the videos where the real artist shows the right way to play something and they let you know that the Professional Transcribers got some of it wrong (Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham's KZfaq Lesson for "Boys are Back in Town" comes to mind)? Well, I am NOT a professional transcriber, so I would love to have a follow up lesson by Brian himself teaching that great solo! I certainly wouldn't think the World or I would be better off without it. P.S. I'm not saying that your comment doesn't have plenty of merit. I'm just saying that I love KZfaq Instructional videos and I learn visually as much as (if not more so) than I learn by ear. Plus, I'm still just a drummer who branched into guitar 27 years ago (and I still suck).

Dear Brian yes, I did enjoy that thank you. I can still scratch my head and wonder why at the height of the NWOBHM in the 80's. Diamond head, Saxon, Witchfynde and Girlschool didn't become hugely successful like Iron maiden and Def Leppard did. IMHO you were far better than them and deserved much more recognition than you got. I remember listening to the Friday rock show with Tommy Vance. He really tried to push you and usually played at least one of your songs weekly. You truly deserved to become really successful. Got into Metallica in early 1987, 7th grade. A friend let me borrow the Elektra re-release of 'Kill 'Em All' in the fall of 1988, I think it came out in anticipation of 'Justice'. I loved all the tunes on it, especially 'Four Horsemen'. As the year went on, I gravitated more and more towards 'Am I Evil?'. At some point, it became this weird pattern of listening to 'Four Horsemen', flipping the tape, fast forwarding through 'Metal Militia', listening to 'Am I Evil?', flipping the tape, fast forwarding through 'Hit the Lights', and starting all over again. In the summer of 1989 we flew to England, the entire trip I listened to almost exclusively 'Am I Evil?', play + rewind, play + rewind, etc. I focused on the fast half of the song, especially the solo. It was a rush listing to the solo as the plane landed and took off. About a year later, I figured out that this was actually a cover, not a Metallica original. Because of the success of 'Justice' (I think), some older NWOBHM stuff was getting new traction, and an older Diamond Head compilation 'Behold the Beginning' made its way on to the shelves of our little record shop in 1989, complete with liner notes from Mr. Ulrich. I recognised the band's name from the 'Kill 'Em All' liner notes, and was please to discover other great tunes Metallica had covered, 'Helpless' and 'The Prince'. Anyway, Diamond Head's first album is amazing, and I'm shocked to not see it on more 'best metal albums of all time' lists, it was *clearly* a huge influence. Very pleased to see this video.

Absolutely love Brian Tatler the guy is the world's most underrated guitarist of all time he is a true student of the instrument and composed the most amazingly heaviest riffs that were well before their time the solo in Am I Evil is a true classic right up there with anything done by Clapton,Page,Iommi but it's true awesomeness lies in the emotion it's played with its not 1000 miles per hour fast shred shred shred it has depth and character and not only fits in the song nicely it adds to the song and really rounds it out as a whole, thoroughly enjoyed watching him play it in this clip you can see the immense pleasure it gives him when he plays it still to this day and the tonal qualities of the guitars on the 2020 version are wicked insane the man really knows how to dial in the tones he's after its super heavy with a ton of bite yet every individual note retains its clarity in my eyes Brian Tatler is what Kirk Hammett aspired to be but just ever so slightly missed the mark I hope Brian and Diamond Head release more albums of freshly composed material in the very near future each to their own and everyone has their Rock God it just so Happens my Rock God's name is Brian Tatler a phenomenal guitarist who was well ahead of his time! Thank you Brian for giving me the passion for the instrument, for sharing your music which has gotten me thru some really tough times in life and been there thru the best times of my life and your easy going laid back nature has made the tutorial videos you've done easy to follow and learn from what can I say you're an awesome human being 😊🤘

It’s always easier when the person who actually made the music explains how to play a certain song of theirs. Before I found this, it took me 4 days to learn the main riff. After finding this video, it only took about 2 hours to learn every riff except the solo

This was one of my absolute favourite tunes to play back when I used to play guitar in the late 90s and early noughties.
