I test some raw diamonds that I found in Arkansas at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. I also check out the authenticity of some of my wife's jewelry.

Only 30% or less of the worlds diamonds will glow under a black light. I found 5 at the crater that would glow. My 1.03 white glowed blue under a black light. Really cool!! Good video !

I suspect they found quartz at the diamond mine. I am guessing Murfeesbouroug (sp.) In Arkansas if you are in US... Quartz will scratch glass too. All of Arkansas has quartz, only a small area has diamonds. I went once, they found more than I did...

Your fingers have to contact the metal electricity conductive panel on the back of the detector while testing. Otherwise results can be inaccurate.

Another simple test is finding its specific gravity. It requires a gram scale, (cost around 12 bucks,), and a simple math process shown on youtube in many videos. When you get the stones specific gravity you can ask google or use a solids specific gravity chart found online and match the numbers up to see what you have. It take just a few minutes and takes out the maybe factor.

There's a lot of equipment. You can see a variety of devices from the oscilloscope. I always watch the video well.

I believe the electronic tester needs to complete a circuit, you have to hold the diamonds (or metal attached to the diamonds) as your body completes the circuit.

Sometimes crater diamonds will beep with the electric test without the metal tray. A lot easier also ! I’ve had small 2-3 points stick to things!! So some diamonds will stick!!!

It took me four trips to find a diamond. Few problems. One was working the west drain, east is the most productive back in the day, to now. Once I moved to the east my diamond count shot up!! Also a few regulars gave me false information!! I had to pick it up on my own. I’m at 27 diamonds. Largest is a 1.03 can’t wait to go back!

Isn’t there a metal pad on the reverse side of your testing probe? Should hold with two fingers in contact with the metal pad

Not all diamond flouresce. In fact the ones who do are less expensive. Please refer to guides for grading

i heard if you put the diamond up and take the lazer and point it against the diamond a real diamond will not have a reflextion on the wall behind you, but a fake diamond the lazer will go right through the diamond and hit the wall.

Hey Brad. The diamonds "may or may not flouese" as determined by AGA and that test I believe has been dismissed. Your supposed to test the tester with the test sample supplied with it in the case as well to set and read temperature settings on back of tester. The only way certain is specific gravity test which is simple to do at home if you have a cheap gram scale, or to have AGA certified person check with spectrometer to see what light the stone gives and filters. (unless you have a spectrometer on hand).. The specific gravity test is easy and shown on youtube. Try again. None of your tests are definative and rough stones will test different than cut with a tester..

I have same tester. On reverse it shows ho to set the tester for tests. Under 1/2 ct. at 30 degree C the tester should be on 5 to 7 setting according to size and room temperature. Had pawn shop kid do me the same way when all I wanted was a value. He just seemed too eager to convince me they were fake and buy them for next to nothing. A jeweler showed me how to properly use the tester and I did sell them at $7500. More than the kid wanted to give. So it’s just as simple to find a person of no bias to tell you what’s real or not. Middle eastern stores seem to be as incompetent as the pawn shops. Take them to several places you’ll find a good one sooner or later.

They say spring time is the time to go, a little bit cooler and the rain lets you see the diamonds easier as they lay in the field. Generally see a news article about some one finding a diamond there in the spring.

I also heard if you use a permament marker it will stay on a real diamond and its hard to remove and one that is fake it will wipe off easy??? I dont know if its true.

Yes it generates high voltage that it uses to heat the diamond then it tests to see how long the heat stays, if it is gone almost instantly then it is a diamond

Hey Brad your not testing those rough stones right , first you have to touch the metal plate in the back side of the diamond tester , and you have to put you hand on the testing platform ? Just a trying on helping you , because a couple looked like rough diamonds ? But its hard to tell on a video. Add me as a friend and I can explain my experience with rough diamonds. I Think you will like to know.
