I just got a Sidekick last week to use as a learning tool for gunsmithing classes (SDI). It now comes with a big placard in the box that says *dry firing the Diamondback Sidekick will void your firearm's warranty.* Upon closer inspection, the notches you mentioned do not prevent the firing pin from contacting the cylinder, they just make it easier to eject spent rounds when the ejector rod doesn't work (very tight chambers after firing). There a video on my channel of me breaking it in, but it's not a gun review...just plinking at a large water puddle in my gravel pit. I'll do a more in-depth review soon.

The sidekick I received was ordered thru my local gun shop. Out of the box the firing pin spring was broken. To Diamondbacks credit they did respond in a reasonable amount of time. But that being said I have had nothing but trouble with this gun especially with the magnum cylinder. Three trips back to Diamondback and it is very picky about ammo with the magnum cylinder. The Long Rifle cylinder shots fine. I think the fax shell ejector is irrelevant and an be removed with one screw. It fits more holsters without the fax ejector and makes it easier to swing out the cylinder.

I've already owned one of these... And returned it to the factory. This may be the single biggest turd firearm I've ever owned. First it was shooting 12" groups at 20 feet... And before I even got an email back from Diamondback, the trigger spring broke... Turning the gun into a paperweight. One gun, two MAJOR flaws... Less than 500 rounds.

The sidekick has a nice shape and would make a good companion on a camping trip but I fear they, like Heritage and even Ruger have resorted to aluminum frames and zinc alloy handles. The ceracoat can cover up a whole lot of crimes against the consumer. I think revolvers need to be made out of more substantial materials. I liked the look of the sidekick but will not buy one.

no thanks to the diamondback sidekick: 12lb double action trigger pull, unproven reliability, unclear manufacturer support, short barrel offers little gain to shooting 22wmr over 22lr. the ruger wrangler is simply better made from a trusted manufacturer compared to the d.s. and heritage roughrider.
