"I Still Believe" by Diana Ross is from her latest album, "Thank You." It's a beautiful dance anthem that is arguably the best song on the album and possibly, among the best songs she has ever recorded. The song is reminiscent of the iconic disco hit, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor (and her own hit, "Love Hangover") in that it starts off slowly as a soothing ballad before switching gears and becoming a scorching dance floor celebration. The song was written (and provided background vocals) by Charlie McClean, Violet Skies, Autumn Rowe, Ruthanne Cunningham. Jack Antonoff, who produced the Diana Ross/Tame Impala collaboration, "Turn Up The Sunshine (from the movie, "Minions: The Rise of Gru") also does the honor for this incredible tune.
Previously, Diana Ross would tease her audience in concert with a snippet of "I Still Believe." It was the musical equivalent of being caught by your parents while in the midst of passion. But on her last night of her grueling tour and residency, Diana Ross gave her fans the ultimate release, she sang the song in full. In the video, you can see how the audience, most who probably never heard the song (or even knew she had a new album) sat attentively to the song but by the end, nearly everyone was up out of their seats dancing! It was one of my favorite moments of her two-week residency (and I went to every one of them)! I'm still in disbelief that she conquered her fear of singing this song and that her incredible, talented band and vocalists were right there with her! Most have been with her on stage for close to two decades; giving her the musical strength and support that she needs. I have personally met most of them and they are the sweetest, nicest people who you could ever meet and what strikes me, is like Ms Ross family, they seem to have a closeness that is unbreakable and they love their boss! LOL.
If the album and songs she released late last year was promoted properly, several of them would have climbed higher on the charts than they originally did. And "I Still Believe," if they re-release and promote this song, I have a feeling it might have a chance of becoming an international hit. Hey, it happened before with "Tears of A Clown" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and Charlene's "I've Never Been To Me." But for now, all I wanna say is Thank You, Ms Ross.
