She was first called a "legend" in 1973 and had only been in the game 10 yrs or so. Back then a legend meant a LEGEND...today they say that about everyone...but she is truly a legendary figure of the 20th century and the 21st as well...

Because she sold more records than any female singer in those days, and she did it when there were no tricks, in the face of many who said she couldn't sing. Her concerts were always full house. Many dismissed her as some kind of pop-tart that would fade away in a year. They didn't get it, and never did. Too bad for them

I think it’s because everyone knows the 60’s was an incredibly pioneering time. Things changed drastically around that time and set path for the future for sure. Diana Ross was a huge part of the change, so it was easy to call her a legend by the time the 70’s rolled in. Especially after her successful first two solo singles; Reach Out And Touch and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. It was like… damn… how much higher can this black woman go. Legendary stuff.

One of the most candid interviews ever witnessed. Now, I really understand her even though I’ve been a fan since the group first started and the early Motown glory days. She’s did it! Diana Ross self-actualized. It was great to hear how the name change of the Supreme came about. And it’s unfortunate how singers of her caliber aren’t appreciated and recorded due to age discrimination in the industry. I just listened to the non-CD release of Diana Ross Sings Songs from The Wiz and was astonished to hear her voice displayed in such form. Her vocals are at it’s best. The ballads are unbelievable. And Quincy Jones has said that she is hardest working person with whom he’s worked. From Quincy that’s quite a compliment! Check out her last few studio albums and you’ll be able to witness what we’re missing now. Thanks Diana for sharing The Gift...
