Thank you for the backstory on the tour. Now it all makes sense. Ross has always been depicted as the villain while Mary Wilson paints herself as the passive saint. If anything, Mary comes across more like Eve Harrington from " All About Eve " the jealous, over ambitious chorus girl out to take down the queen. It usually goes unmentioned that it was always Ross that fought for more money for the group back in the sixties. Ross was proactive while Mary was sheep.

At the time the decision was made to make the show into a reunion tour, Diana should have contacted Mary directly before it getting into the press. There relationship was frayed, to say the least, and this show was doomed from Mary’s perspective if their wasn’t some effort to repair it. So it’s out in the public and gossip columns that there’s going to be a reunion tour before Mary hears about it. Saying that the business should have been worked out first is a weak excuse for not contacting Mary to convince her to do the show. It was not truly a reunion show by leaving out the only other living founder of the Supremes and that’s why it was a flop.

Yes, rickw, exactly. I saw the show and, yes, did they do some heavy editing! Diana and her two fake Supremes did not put in nearly enough time to create what was supposed to be a spectacular event. They had SIX backup singers to help cover the vocal flaws and weaknesses of the "girls." At this time, Diana began to put on weight, had to lower her musical key due to her inability to hit the high notes. The other two supremes were did not add much to overall performance. I think Ross knew that this tour would be a bust and just did it for the publicity and money, though in the end she suffered greatly.

This was Diana Ross & The Replacements. Very disappointing. Lots of supportive comments on this page, but it's easy to see why the show failed miserably and the tour canceled. Not to take anything away from the replacements as both are skilled and talented. I think they were sold a bill of goods. Diana Ross' net worth surpasses $250,000,000! I think Mary made a huge mistake not seizing the opportunity, but Diana could have paid her the millions Mary thought she was entitled to and Cindy would have come along. Diana, Mary and Cindy would have brought a modicum of satisfaction to Florence Ballard's legion of fans. Mary probably could have done a tribute segment and sang Florence's ABC Records releases. Notice how when the program begins, Diana takes center stage with center lighting and the other two are placed in the shadows. This goes on for most of the performance. @Punkanelly Lovejoy Damona is lying. I found out that Diana Ross DID NOT get paid all the money for that tour. In the contract it stated that if cancellation occurred for any reason, she would only be paid for shows completed. That is what also led to her nervous breakdown and being forced into rehab several times after RTL failed. She was hooked on Opioids and was a pretty bad alcoholic.

You need to read the true FACTS about the tour, not the crap you're talking about. Mary was offered $4ML for *29* dates: at the time that was what she would normally earn in FOUR YEARS of constant, night after night touring. What an artist earns on a tour is determined by the money they earned in the 12 months leading up to the start of a tour. Mary was earning up to $1ML so she was going to be completely overpaid for doing the tour. Diana during this tour was on stage alone for a lot of the show, meaning that she was working a lot harder than the others, and meaning that Mare didnt have to spend a great deal of time on stage. Diana also put a lot into the show: what exactly was Mary going to put into it? Cindy left the negotiations to Mary, and stupidly didn't herself out of a lot of money in the process. Cindy is now poorly and would benefit from the money she lost by not doing the tour. You say that it's all about the money, and maybe you didn't see the interview Mary did, talking about the tour: "It's not even about the money..... *but they'd have to pay me well"* She contradicts herself at every turn...she's a jealous viper....the worst kind and extremely dangerous...I wouldn't trust her as far as I can spit!

Miss Ross was not admitted into a mental institution. She admitted herself into a substance rehabilitation center, meaning that she went to solve an issue, instead of wallowing in nonsense, as you've done here. She was dealing with her brother's murder as well as her divorce, calamities which would have crippled a lesser human being. As for Miss Ross' act, it's anything BUT and 'oldies' show. In fact, on August 30, she performed at the LEGENDARY Tanglewood's Koussevitzky Music Shed, backed by The Boston Symphony Orchestra. If you know anything about real music, you'll know why that's a HUGE deal. When she's not featured at such places, she's selling out the same venues frequented by today's hottest artists, including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Adele and Beyonce. Again, I pity you. The time you spend hating/resenting/envying Miss Ross could be much better spent trying to copy her success, but, I see why you can't. You don't have her class, talent, style, soul, elegance, beauty, drive, focus, work ethic, etc., to get the job done. Stay on the sidelines, and watch Miss Ross continue to delight her fans. It's as close to greatness you'll ever get.:)

Yep, delight her fans, just as she continues to do, ironically, with the same tour that she's performed for the past seven years, still selling out major venues. As for extended 2-3 night gigs, she does that -regularly-at the 18,000+-seat Hollywood Bowl. She headlines major festivals and performs regularly with the nation's best symphonies, whether at the Kennedy Center(12/16, IIRC) or at Tanglewood, with The Boston Symphony Orchestra(8/30/17), when she's not performing residences at the poshest Las Vegas properties. When Diana Ross performs with full orchestras(like she's supposed to)or in legendary venues, she sells, often requiring extra nights to be added at that particular venue. "EDIAND", actually one of her best and best-reviewed albums, failed to chart because neither Motown(with its revolving door of CEOs-be sure to make something negative of that, btw) nor she promoted it, as she was dealing with her divorce. "I Love You", released 7 years later charted at #32Pop, #16R&B and #31 Internet(and, imo, it's nowhere near her best work), while "Blue" peaked at #2 on the jazz chart. Diana Ross is that rare artist who graces the stage with such elan, she doesn't need a hit record to pack major venues...or garner the constant attention of those who seethe with JEALOUS RAGE at her legacy of success. A tip:Spend less of your existence reveling in the supposed 'failures' of others, and spend more of it creating your own success...if you can.:)

SAM The SHAM.....I was at the Atlanta concert also, and even have (platted now as a poster) the full page AJC newspaper advertisement. I pretty much enjoyed the show. The orchestra was great (I, by chance, sat next to the conductor's wife). The one thing I didn't particularly find "real" was that along with Scherrie and Lynda, there were several background singers so it wasn't really an trio we were hearing. Great variety of songs; a chance for each lady was given to "showcase."

If you study the Supremes earlier work it was Florence that gave the Supremes its unique sound. Diana Ross would not be where she is today without her original partners and Berry Gordy pimping her. Detroit was a scandalous city. Pimps and hoes, gambling, night clubbing, heavy drinking/drugs, flashy cars, women beating, proverty and straight out hustling. Diana's solo work can't touch her Supremes years.
