After a recent short holiday in Canterbury, England, I just had to paint a branch of magnolia blossoms, as they were so beautiful this spring. The Chickadee is also on holiday from the States, and asked if he could be included instead of the inevitable Bluetit!

A knockout fabulous session. I never get tired of the ramblings, and there are almost always some incidental painting instructions like those last marks or the paint mixing or the little dividers for the paint...some things cannot be comprehended until I go back and get to another level. Then one thing or another comes together in my mind. Thank you for it all.

I totally agree with Denise Zimmer when she said your comments make us feel 'not alone.' Our whole world is in quite the conundrum right now which makes it very hard to 'see the light'. Then today there was a person with very bad intentions who opened fire on people in the NYC subway. I love your painting today and especially the chickadee. Such a happy little fella. Please try to feel better soon. It doesn't help to have your poor chickens in their coop 24/7. They were born to roam a bit. We all hope that things will get much better soon for all of us...no matter where you live.

Thanks so much Diane, I appreciate every word. I am fine today, it was just one of those days, we will manage to get the hens netted eventually and then we won't have to worry. Dreadful events around the world, New York being one of them. What can we do?

Thank you for saying you love my ramblings and understand my humour - I have a feeling we might have much in common as you obviously feel the same sort of way as I do about the moronic world we live in. I’m going to say it here, despite the fear of KZfaq censoring me, that although I knew that the world was bad when I was growing up I had hoped that it would’ve improved by the time I got to my retirement so I could rest in peace. Fat chance of that.

These magnolias look so cheerful -and the chickadee too! On palettes, I love mixing on porcelain, it is so much smoother and lush than doing so on plastic. Pkus...no beading! I grab whatever I can: old thrifted plates, small dip saucers, bathroom soap trays and anything enameled. Art supply shops want so much $$$ for these things...and I'd rather find a DIY solution to suit me. Thanks for your video -your ramblings are rather fun too!

Diane, I don't know how you keep creating such unique and gorgeous paintings but I'm thrilled you do! Watching you paint this Magnolia and Chickadee with your gentle strokes and rich color palette is so relaxing. Your composition couldn't be better. I never think of your story sharing as rambling, instead, it feels more like a visit with a friend. I know I'm not alone feeling this because one of my favorite things to do is read the warm and positive comments from all of your other fans. It's always uplifting to see kindness and appreciation in the world. I'm thinking the mayor needs to have a painting of yours hung in his home, handed a paintbrush, paint, and paper and join us all for a painting tutorial. Things will get better Diane. In the meantime, keep changing the world in your positive and unique way, one lovely painting and story at a time. You make the world a much better place.

My 148.th. Sometimes life can attack you very heavy. Even so hard you think it isn't worth going on. But being stable the best you can, work on your mental health in less bad times to get backbones . Being an emotional gifted human it is sometimes even more difficult to stay centered and steady. But it is humans nature to be joyful , and surprisingly we can get over ( more or less) our downs. In contrast to your mood when making this video you created a very pleasant and full of symbolical exploding live ( buts and blooming flowers). Thanks for sharing, being open and just human. (Now you are in an other emotional state and that is inherent this medium.) 😊wim

Diane, thank you for sharing your art and life with us as you paint. I enjoy learning from you; you've helped make watercolor easy for me to understand and do. I was intimidated by it for many years until a few weeks ago when I started with some of your little, chubby, cute birds. Im hooked now. What joy!; such a stress reliever! And am now encouraging others to try. Thanks again, and God bless you!

So sorry about the worry about the chickens. I hope they stay well. You captured the chickadee so well. She is so cute and I love the magnolias! Another note- I have two thirty year old step children who I wish didn’t have to face the problems of the world. I don’t know what to do with this kind of sorrow for them and my grandchildren. It’s good that you bring it up in your videos.❤❤❤

I have a Tupperware tray made for deviled eggs. It works great for my pallet. Good Will or any local flea markets thrift shops are a fantastic way to collect Tupperware very cheaply. I love Tupperware. My sister and I both used to sell. It is guaranteed for life, no matter how you acquire it. 😁

That’s a great idea Terry, I think using our imagination to re-purpose things we don’t necessarily need for the original use is a great way of going about it. I’m just looking at the prices of various things which I feel I would like to replace - not art related, but mundane things like kitchen bins - and on seeing a bin priced at well over $150 I’m having second thoughts about the need for a new one! Do they make bins in Tupperware? Ha ha!

Diane I've spent the last 2 days enjoying your beautiful whimsical and very creative art which I've enjoyed soooo much. Above and beyond that we have sooooo many thoughts in common. I feel like I was in the right place watching the right artist when I should have been. You spoke words in a couple of videos that I needed to hear for a positive reinforcement not only within my art journey but in the only sort of punishment that I ever gave my granddaughter in her entire 9 yrs. I reduced her phone/ screen time to only 4 hours a week because she broke the rules plus she doesn't go outside, or play with toys, or do crafts anymore. He grades aren't great, she can't remember even I full task that might have 2 or 3 parts yet she remembers that phone and charger and how to play the games and figured out how to be sneaky. I was feeling like maybe it was a little tough but no it's getting warmer here and she got a bike for Christmas. I too do not like arches for all of the same reasons. But I do love the stone henge legion with no taping or masking, my favorite top of the line with good sizing is fabriano Artistico extra white

Hi Lisa thanks so much for your message and support! I’m so glad you relate to the things that pass through my mind while I’m painting. I often feel the messages come from somewhere and are intended for someone and that I am just the person who delivers them! Like the milkman in days gone by, I leave my thoughts on the doorstep and people can use them as they need! I’m sorry to hear about your granddaughter. So young and already not enjoying the world around her. I hope she sees things more clearly with your guidance, but it’s hard on you to be firm. I haven’t tied Stonehenge paper yet, but many people have mentioned it and I know it is good. I must get round to purchasing some soon! I do love my Canson mixed media paper which I recently started using in the more recent videos you’ll see it along with Kuretake paints - very vibrant colors and easy to use. Only problem is Canson don’t sell that type in the States, you’d have to get it from the UK. Thanks again for your message, best wishes, Diane x

Diane, i love your anecdotes. And, yes, it would be great if you did some neuro art therapy. As for worrying about the world, I pray, do good to those around me, and trust in Divine Providence. You are doing your part by helping people, including me, unwind and enjoy our achievement. Take care, Diane. Btw, your painting is beautiful. I love birds and magnolias. Hi Deirdre, thanks so much for your comment and support! I really appreciate that. I can’t imagine keeping chickens in cages and actually to tell you the truth - but please don’t tell the mayor ! - our chickens are still outdoors during the day although they are confined to a small-ish run. We only have 10 of them and they have plenty of space. I’m honoured to be compared to Ronnie Corbett, he was very funny, perhaps I learnt my style from years of watching The Two Ronnies!

Hi Diane, I love this one! I enjoy your tutorials and your ramblings a lot. I'm sorry you have so many stresses at the moment and hope things improve. I took up watercolours 7 weeks ago, firstly because I'd been itching to for a long time, secondly because everything had got on top of me and I had to do SOMETHING to de-stress. For a start, I've been living with stage 3 ovarian cancer for 8 and a half years, then there's the whole Covid thing, then my husband and I recently lost both our mums - the horrendous war on Ukraine was the last straw! Painting is helping me SO much, it's now my happy place and if I can't paint on a given day, I really miss it. Please keep doing what you do, it is a comfort and inspiration. Elizabeth x

Hi Elizabeth and thank you so much for your heartfelt message. I'm so sorry to hear about your health problems and your loss of your mum and mum-in-law. That must have been very hard. Well done on surviving the ovarian. I have a friend who was diagnosed with that nasty cancer 25 years ago and despite prognoses to the contrary she survives and now enjoys salsa dancing as a hobby (we met through my painting classes !) I'm also a survivor of BC since 1996. We CAN win. I will be doing this as long as possible, and when I can't any more, my daughter will hopefully take over! So pleased you are enjoying the videos, you've got about 350 to watch, so happy painting!!!!! Best wishes and may you and your husband keep well xxx
