How to Paint a Whimsical Bird with Inktense Watercolor Pencils and Watercolor - Easy Quick Tutorial

This little owl was born out of a marriage between Derwent Inktense Pencils and A Gallo Signature watercolor paints. A good combination, with subtle blends on his tummy and sparky contrasty strokes of pencil to give life and movement.
For those of you who are keeping track, this is video number 10 in our Paint a Bird a Day series!

Quickest way to make a bird that I’ve ever seen. He’s so cute, you’d think he took forever to make. Making our light wash blob then adding details. This is the next project to tackle with the grands. Can’t wait to make them a few samples - I feel some bold looks in my future. Thank you.

Especially after hearing about your husband i'm amazed you took the time to post a video. Thank you very much though... I've really enjoyed your birds ... i found you through your birds so i look forward to seeing what's next! This little owl is so cute.. I have some inktense pencils.. now i will try them into wet.. I've not tried to use them yet .. they sit on the shelf looking at me.. All the best to you and your husband.. In the middle of Covid .. hubby had to have his gall bladder taken out! I couldn't even go in the hospital with him.. I thank my lucky stars that his heart operation came before Covid so i could be there.. I'm so glad its not serious and your hubby will be home soon.. I’m a little late. I must try this method. I like this better than coloring in then washing w water and I can see hotpress paper really is best. Well wishes to your family hope your husband is doing better.

Thank you so much for this little bird. He's so cute and intelligent looking. I'm glad hubby is on the mend and he has you to keep his spirits up. I'm not surprised being in the hospital makes him feel gloomy. You will help him for sure! I just got myself a little watercolor book so I can try my hand at some of your birdies. I so look forward to them! They just make me so happy! So just what is the problem that you tube wont let you post every day? No! Say it isn't so! Just know your artistic and creative talent has another component. And that is that you bring happiness and a sense of calmness, peacefulness to others. Hugs to both you and hubby.

The pencil is made up of ink. These can be used on fabric as well! After they are wet, dissolved by either water, fabric medium or clear aloe vera gel (I'm sure there's more), allow to dry and its permanent. I think it's better if you iron it to heat-set it. I use these on silk sometimes. They're fun🙂

Love this. I have inktense pencils, but they’re not permanent. They would bleed into the water, but I’m going to try the. Anyway. Thank you. You are an inspiration to me.

These ones didn't run really, when I put them into wet paper, but they do usually mix with water if you put the water on afterwards. Maybe it was the paper that stopped them bleeding.

Hi intense are watercolor pencils only they are ink based not just pigment based. So when you wet them and it dries it's permanent. You can use them as colored pencils but the real use is to wet the pencils for watercolor effects. But I'm not trying to tell you how to use your pencils just what I've learned about them. I got the inktense in the block form and sometimes wish they were pencil for such projects as this. Have a good day!♥️
