The intro for this song is the first thing I ever learned to play on guitar. It's about time I got it recorded :)

I dont care what anybody says this song is a masterpiece by Randy Rhoads he was a musical genius just like Eddie only in a different style and thats the way i look at both of them, not in a competitive way but in a way that their time was just like the great musicians of the past like the great clasical musician's and im just happy i was a teenager in the time they were both here.

@@Jackc8201 i know i should have also mentioned how great a musician you are. Sorry i guess i just got caught up in remembering Randy there then of course made me think of Eddie but you did one hell of a job on that song its definitely one of my favorites by Randy and i haven't learned it all the way through yet still working on it which is pretty much why i watched your video i knew it was going to be a good one when i saw you doing multiple parts i know Randy used to record a lot of his songs that way and it gave him a hell of a sound you did an amazing job my friend ill continue to watch your videos simply because i know they will be well done thanks for the video my friend.

who would suggest this is nota masterpiece, I mean Kirk Hammett is on record saying he wish he wrote this brilliant song. Randy and Ed were two all time greats. but for anyone to think Randy is not in that conversation for one of the best is ignorant. randy changed the metal landscape

the only differnce is Eddie was better in the pop / flashy rock scene while Randy was better in the neoclassical scene.

There are some striking similarities with the opening riff of Diary of a Madman to a classical guitar study by Leo Brouwer, etude 6. Do a search here on KZfaq to listen to the comparison. I've always suspected that Randy Rhoades, who studied classical guitar, was influenced by that study when he wrote this song. Regardless of what his inspirations were, this song is always a great listen.

This is absolutely the best version of Diary of a madman I heard on KZfaq to date. I loved Randy since I was 11/12 years old. I’m 53 now and still think about him every day... I have read many many guitar mags saying how Randy triple tracked certain songs, never realized till seeing this video that the Triple tracking is why parts of Diary are so heavy, always thought he did something with the EQ or something this now makes complete sense. Thank you Sir, for showing this process it sounded great.

Great job sir. My all time favorite piece by Randy Rhoads. As a 15 year old kid I wore out a vinyl album and 2 cassettes of this. Now I’m 57 and still learning to play a lot of this stuff myself. I have an Over the mountain cover on utube as well. 🙏🏼 On March 19th 2020 I visited flying Baron Estates in Leesburg Fl where Randy died with my white Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with me at the time. 😢 After all these years I still sat at the gate looking at that house and wept. It was a very surreal moment. The house looks exactly as all the pictures we’ve all seen. RIP Randall William Rhoads 🙏🏼

Randy was a master of multi tracking his guitars and his producers would remark how he could play the same piece over and over again so precisely every time. Such an enormous talent; makes one wonder what other gems 💎 he was capable of and the world will never know. Nice job bringing the spirit of that song to life.
