I respect your humble approach and the extra mile to find the source of the newly found issue and the clear justification you provide the customer. No wonder guys are shipping trucks across the country to your shop. From Canada, I just check every Ford issue I have here first. Most times, the symptoms, tools, parts list and fix are listed here. Huge Thank you for all of this incredible content.

Great video. The problem for the customer though is we have no idea who actually is a professional and knows what they are doing and who doesn't. As evidenced by watching you and other diagnostic guys on YT, a lot of these vehicles are coming from dealerships who you would think could fix these things and they don't. That is the frustrating part for customers. We usually spend all kinds of unnecessary money because someone doesn't know how to fix the vehicle correctly.

My worst fears are someone working on a car that I own and hacking the job. Your videos help so much in getting the job done right. I always do my own work so I know the repair is good and will last. As I am getting older it's so hard to find good mechanics to help do the work with me or find a shop that you can trust or wants to do the work in the first place. Thanks for sharing your know-how with us. You made my life a lot easier many times.

Great video Brian. Although you're well aware, it's worth noting that when replacing these injectors, it's a good idea to confirm there aren't any o-rings stuck up in the rail itself that may have come off the old injectors. I replaced some on a 4.6, and although all the old injectors still had their top o-ring in tact, there was magically an "extra" one stuck in the rail, maybe from the time before? Who knows. Now I always look though. Quick glance with a mirror, since there's only so much you can lift that rail to peek under it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Great Video Brian! Yes those color rings should always match! Gotta love them Multiple Problem Vehicles (MPV's)! I ran into a similar situation with wrong injectors when a Honda Accord came in with 2 cylinders misfiring shortly after coming out of a body shop back in the early 1990s. Checked spark plugs and spark was confirmed good. I then did a compression test that confirmed engine was still ok as all cylinders were close to specs. I ordered 2 from the Honda dealership and upon receiving them I notice the new injectors had a different color ring than the old ones did! Knowing that color corelates to the specific flow of an injector I called the dealer and they said what they sent was the proper flow rating and that I shouldn't worry about the color ring. After installing the 2 new Injectors the vehicle didn't idle smooth and idle now would hunt when cold! After going through everything else I could think of, I decided to order 2 more injectors from that same dealer but to my surprise these were yet another color and the dealer said they are all the same flow! Now yet again the idle was worse then before! Needless to say after all that wasted time I called back the dealer and told them to send me 4 more injectors and to quote "MAKE SURE THEY ALL HAD THE SAME COLOR RING" and I would send the others back to them! And that fixed the vehicle! Just a series of issues creating new problems that compounds the initial problem does challenge our diagnostic strategies. And from that day on I have always made sure that injector color rings all match and always recommend replacing it a complete matched set if flow rates can't be confirmed by onboard testing options. MPVs (Multiple Problem Vehicles) can be more challenging from time to time!

Great video Brian. Never know what you are going to get when other hands on parts cannon trigger. The pink injectors were for an 07 08 expedition. You know this, but not everyone else might....the injector flow test is only available on vehicles with fuel rail pressure sensors, like F150, but not Expeditions. I have done this test with an analog fuel pressure Guage and an injector pulse box recording pressure drop after pulsing for a preset time.

Never would have figured that a 5.4 3v expedition would have a different injector than a f150.
@D2O2
@D2O2 Жыл бұрын
@@dunbarautomotive The fuel delivery system is different. F150 uses a fuel rail pressure sensor with variable speed fuel pump with driver module that likes to split open and fail. The expedition doesn't have a fuel rail pressure sensor and uses a fixed speed pump.

Hello Brian, I had a friend back in the Intel 486 - Pentium days who managed a computer store tell me that you just could not teach people troubleshooting. They either had the ability or they didn't. I've always been very good at it but with the newer cars / trucks like you work on I'd probably be in a bit of trouble. My wife and I will both be 74 this year and have driven pretty low mileage low problem vehicles for years and I'm sorry to say that I've gotten behind the times. My two current cars are a 2015 Mustang GT with about 9,000 miles and a 2018 Focus ST with 11,000 on it and they both thank God run great. Love your videos Brian! George

I thought I screwed up the timing job on the bosses 3.6 in his caddy last week after doing the chains. It was idling a bit rough, but nothing too bad considering it was figuring things out with the new chains. I hopped in and gave it a little snort once it warmed up. Immediately it began to shake like crazy, I thought it was going to fall off the hoist. Shut it off, scratched my head a bit wondering what I did wrong, then noticed I forgot to tighten the intake hose, it sucked it off the air filter housing so it was pulling air after the MAF. What a relief!

Different FT numbers bank to bank can be really interesting, forcing you to "ignore" everything shared by both. good thing you were able to eliminate timing so easily, only because it was the last thing touched. i know that feeling. possibly the most helpful part of this is verifying fuel trims after the repair, seeing LT + and ST - on the bank is what we want to see. Brings up the value of resetting learned trims, both to confirm the issue is still present, and to improve driveability for the owner after. i repaired a vacuum leak, and the car ran worse, until it learned, Alpha 164, no reset without battery disconnect, so i didn't. because i work on multiple makes, it's always the issue of how quickly the pcm writes to memory the new values under all driving conditions. side note, also reminded me about getting the Ford baro value to update.
The Worst Hack Timing Job Ever!
