Pro Football Players make lots of money. They are paid to do one of two things: Score points or Stop the other team from scoring. If the Falcons would have stuffed the runner at the goal line like a defense is supposed to do, then his entire conversation would not be happening. This is not high school football. Men are paid stacks of “pictures of dead presidents” to score or stop someone from scoring. Period. End of conversation

The safety issue goes for both sides of the ball now. Who is to believe the formation is real in the opposing defence? I say remove the formation and instead give us a message via the ref as soon as the interception play is over: The game is over, The Saints Win by virtue of sufficient downs to run out the clock.
@Michael_Page
@Michael_Page 5 ай бұрын
Two things. One, victory formation is what it is to prevent the defense from disrupting the kneel down. It's a football play. Bodies can and will collide. Defensive players try to surprise the offense by aggressively jumping over the line of scrimmage in victory formation all the time. The offense tricking the defense is not some awful infraction of unwritten rules. Second, if Winston had audibled into a conventional set, Allen could have taken a TO or a penalty and stopped the play. The only way that play happens is out of victory formation.

"Running it up" was not the issue, the issue was using the victory formation which was one that is meant for player safety. I think it was '12 when the giants (giants vs packers) were reamed by the media for trying to cause a fumble on a kneel down on a normal formation and how it was so unsafe.

Don’t set up in Victory formation like you’re going to take a knee and then push. Someone on that d-line could have really got hurt being unprepared in that formation. That formation is a sign that they aren’t going to run a play. If they did this and lined up in the gun or a proper formation then everyone is ready. If they are in victory and the defensive tackle breaks through the line and thumps the QB before his knee goes down is that okay? No it isn’t. Victory formation is there for a reason.

If the Saints don't do anything about this, they should save money and fire all the coaches and not have any next year. The players are going to do what they want anyway, why spend money on the coaches? Now, the Saints HC deserves blame here too. Not only did he lose control of his offense, apparently he also lost control of the extra point squad. Or did he tell them to add on by kicking the extra point? Thus approving of the TD. Not a good image in either case.

But if this was Brees, he would have been the one telling Payton he needs to run a play to get Jamaal a touchdown, and Payton would have said: sure! The HC should jell seamlessly with the QB leader of the team.

The classless play increases the likelihood of injury on future kneel downs bc defenses can no longer assume sportsmanship and are required to be aggressive on meaningless downs. Disrespectful towards their coach, opponents, and leaguemates; as they said, all they really care about is the money incentives and they value that over creating a worse circumstance for their coach, rivals, and league.
@loganadolf7363
@loganadolf7363 5 ай бұрын
LOL listen, any RB who needs a TD to get that bonus money can get it any way they have to. What the NFL has been doing to running backs is way more classless than getting a free TD on the last play of the season out of victory formation on the 1 yard line. Coaches always worried about "sportsmanship" crap in moments when its not really that important; season was over, no one in that game is going to the playoffs or has to be healthy for next week so line up & call a play to get one of your guys a freaking touchdown so they can get paid a little extra. Sheesh.

I think the victory formation should be replaced as an automatic victory notice from the refs once a team is in a position to run the clock to zero. At issue is surrounding player safety now that the gentleman's agreement has been broken. So the NFL either bins the silly victory formation that wastes people's time or they force teams to defend to protect their players which adds risk as is thus no longer a victory formation.

Dennis Allen is the worst coach for putting Winston in the game at that point. Why did he keep Carr in the game when there was around 5 minutes to play and a 41-17 point lead? Apparently Loomis and Benson think Allen is a great coach for it looks like he'll be back next season. It took 13 games for Carmichael to finally remember the plays Payton was calling to win games.
