@@MineShackle She is a well-written character to start your story. She stands up for herself, is active, is consistent with her hobbies (like shopping), has her own beliefs, a unique ability set, and a special personality. Sadly her motivation doesn't really bind her to the story. But Gege didn't develop her. What I mean is that her character doesn't change like Yuji did. We never saw her growth, and Gojo also never trained Nobara to develop her abilities further. She was, in fact, so underdeveloped that Gege had to use a cheap trick and show us her backstory when we knew she was dead. Her death as a major character only affected Yuji and nothing else. Take Jiraya from Naruto, for example. His death affected Naruto, Tsunade, and the village. He left a power vacuum, which allowed the Akatsuki to act more freely and attack the village. Hopefully, that makes it more clear.

JJK made me realize that I don't really care that much that a character can fight or not , is physically strong or not , what I care is that the character has a good personality, a good chemistry with others (and maybe compelling goals and backstory). First, unlike your pals Yuji and Megumi, you showcase no new skills/moves/abilities and lose to Haruta in such an humiliating way just so your author can glaze Nanami up, then when you finally get your moment to shine against Mahito’s clone, you get turned into a plot device, given this backstory that I’d argue could be in an entirely different series because it literally has nothing to do with the plot and then you “die” for Yuji’s character development. Post-Shibuya arc, the author refuses to tell the audience whether you’re alive or dead for almost 4 years and then to make matters worse, no one except for Yuji ever mentions you ever again as if you never existed in the first place. Maki never talks about you, Panda (wtf does he do?) never talks about you, Gojo never talks about you in that shitty timeskip, Shoko never talks about you despite being one of her fucking patients and one of her best friend’s students, Megumi only talks about you when Yuji brings you up and Yuji only talks about you twice post-Shibuya with those chapters being 144 (once in the perfect preparation arc) and 210 (once in the Culling Games arc).

I believe that the female cast was being hyped up so hard because in the beginning, they had interesting setups for great character arcs and depth, but they got pushed to the sideline due to JJK being a more plot-driven story. I find that very disappointing because I thought that the female students and some of the Kyoto students, like Kamo, would have stories and character arcs that lead to them going against the Jujustu society and Higher-Ups, both physically and ideology, as there is some social commentary.

It was so funny to me how people called JJK's female cast revolutionary for the shonen genre when Nobara had her moment in season1 (a cool moment I'd say! But not revolutionary) People saw female characters that weren't useless 99% of the time or simping over the male leads and lost their damn minds; despite the fact that the treatment of the female cast of JJK is at times WORSE than shonen that have came before it (Claymore still clears+Flame of Reeca's Fuuko clears any JJK female character out the water) The bar is in hell. I'm a JJK fanboy and even I know this shit wasn't "game changing" Gege literally said he murked Nobara to break Yuji (and the audience's heart) *textbook definition of fridging* JJK didn't push the envelope on shonen women. it just gave it a new look edit: WE BOTH SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT TEXTBOOK CASE OF FRIDGING! And there are so many great women integral to the plot. there’s mereoleona who’s an actual force of nature. The witches are on a whole different level of power. Grey is an awesome character. Charmy is a literal beast. Sister Lilly is a great character who’s capable of defending herself but also embodies a nurturing and traditionally feminine personality. Nero is Mikasa done right. A character with deep love and a stoic demeanor who is shown to have significant free will and existence outside of their relationship to the protagonist. I could go on and on because there is no shortage of examples.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, Uraraka is a better and even more importantly, well utilized main female character than Nobara. As a big fan of her character and how she's able to so easily bounce off the personalities and beliefs of her friends and other characters, the only reason Nobara gets gassed up in comparison to more controversial shounen female leads to such a disportionate degree is particularly because she doesn't have any romantic attraction to a male character, and I'm glad you're calling that out. Unlike a comatosed one eye shut in, at least Uraraka manages to finish her arc that not only follows through plot lines that were set up beforehand, but is also actually relevant, if not intrinsically crucial to the overall narrative the main plot is focusing on. Now is MHAs 'main plot' good as of now? Ehhhhhhhhhhh not really, but at least Uraraka's story fits within the general narrative of empathy and emotional suppression Horikoshi is hammering down in the final act.

Uraraka does have a lot Of problems as well, but I’ll say this, as much as I like Nobara tbh and both have their pros and cons, I can’t deny at least Uraraka did like you said, finish her character arc even though that finish is very….. off. But still it was something compared to barley doing anything in season 2 and then dying in a stupid way. The reason people liked Nobara wasn't just because she wasn't attracted to the main character (though why is people liking that a bad thing?) It was because she had a lot of depth many female shonen characters aren't afforded. Her speech to Momo about loving being strong AND pretty resonated with a lot of people. She also had a fun sassy personality, was badass, and bounced off of the other characters (yuji, maki, megumi) really well. Framing her popularity as being shallow is just disingenuous. Mind you, people like Uraraka for similar reasons. The biggest criticism against Uraraka is that she doesn't get to be a character for half of the series because Horikoshi doesn't write crushes super well. I personally wish Deku and Uraraka's friendship was given more screentime

The issue of the matter here is that she's just straight up not in the story anymore. She has nothing to add and even if she returns now there isn't that much of a way that she can realistically impact the plot in a meaningful way, and that's not even taking into account if Gege can even write a way for her to return that won't sound immediately stupid and unbelievable

So basically JJK has a problem with its plot quick pacing & the treatment of its female cast is one of the side effects. I’ve always found the hate towards filler a bit excessive at times. Yeah, it can get annoying if overdone, but it can be a good excuse to have more moments with the cast & maybe give them some more excuses for action scenes with them. How am I supposed to care about the plot if I don’t care enough about the characters due to their lack of screen time?! It’s like Gege overreacted to the hate for filler & overdid it. I’ve heard MHA kinda suffered from that, with the author wanting to have the main cast grow into adults but the editors wanted him to pick up the pace with the plot. It’s weird how MHA fans are acting like Uraraka having feelings for Deku automatically ruins her. You can have a strong well rounded character while letting them be love interests too, you know. And what is with Shoko? She was apparently a trio with Ghetto & the fan girl magnet back then, but we barely see how she feels about the predicaments with them lately.

I can understand not liking Mirko, and I can definitely agree with a few of your points, but discounting that as a "raw fight" I think does a disservice to her. She fought like a rabid animal that just refused to die, ripping her hair off when she was caught by it, and I'm pretty sure I remember her straight-up biting when her limbs were made useless, and then after straight-up LOSING some of them, which would have absolutely been the retirement point for any rational person, she gets prosthetic limbs, and is just like "Yeah, I'm still gonna be a hero, whatevs.", and continues to put herself in those almost assured death fights. She fought harder than anyone in the series, and that includes Deku. He's messed himself up, but he's always healed. She went beyond that by fighting after losing limbs, but if Deku loses his arms and still goes on to fight(which is tricky to even wonder about, with very current events, but I don't want to spoil anything), then I'd argue that he'd be on the same level as her, but until then, she is THE MOST savage fighter in the show, unless I'm forgetting about someone. That being said, your comment of there being not much else to her is fairly true, but DAYUM was her fighting just basically like that of a wild animal.

You're right. Hell, the main reason people like Nobara is same for what she says "I like being pretty and strong." Such a simple desire to be powerful and seen. Everyone wants that in some way. Every character in most shonen has something on that line. Hearing her say that made her stand out because she wasn't trying to be something, just more of what she already was. Maki is either loved for her drama with the clan or her transformation into scarred waifu. Neither of them are groundbreaking characters, but they're the bare minimum. I will say the fridge thing is a bit less likely since multiple characters have died before Nobara and even Megumi could be considered fridged since he's effectively dead right now. Jjk seems to both reward and punish characters based on who they are. Being a scumbag keeps you going longer but caring kills you.

Based based based! This vid turned out really well. It is a really striking point that sexuality and fighting are totally allowed to be explored, neither a matter of “how much we depict this” being the issue. But rather that because of the pretty underwhelming roster of female characters in media over the years - we tend to frontload a lot of chips onto crafting the catch-all female character, when really we should just be making good characters. This of course isn’t to say that you can’t write female characters with their femininity as the focus, but at least with shounen I’m fine not expecting anything incredibly evocative. JJK’s cast far from delivered, but maybe the next series gassed will raise people’s standards.

I think part of the problem is the obsession with the phrase "strong female character". As I interpret it, this phrase is meant to describe a female character with a "strong" identity and story. Strong in this context doesn't mean she punches hard, it means she's interesting with deep and compelling motivations and undergoes a captivating story arc. Basically, it means "a well written character who happens to be female", which when put like that makes it so fucking depressing that THAT is meant to be a crowning achievement of a writer when it should be the bare minimum. Where I think a lot of media, shonen manga in particular, goes wrong is they focus on and misinterpret the "strong" part and think that's all they have to do to fix the issue. That a female character instantly goes from dog shit to peak if she's fighting alongside the boys. Maki and Nobara both fit this mould; they have very little in the way of interesting character moments but are portrayed as powerful, skilled and competent fighters. Nobara does have a bit more going for her with her chair philosophy but then she got slapped outta the story by Mahito. For an example of how to write compelling female characters, Arcane is probably the best in recent years. Every female character is deep, rich, compelling and oozing with personality. Even Mel Medarda who doesn't need to fight to be strong, her strength takes the form of intelligence, manipulation and political strategy. Vi's physical strength isn't her sole character trait, Caitlyn isn't defined by her rebellious desire to become a cop instead of a high society noblewoman, Jinx is such a complex character that trying to summarise what makes her so good in a youtube comment would do a disservice to Arcane's writers. To get to the point, JJK doesn't have peak female characters, it has female characters that are slightly above the abysmal quality we have come to expect from shonen manga. They only seem "peak" because their audience has terribly low standards and just doesn't realise it.

Honestly people discredit shounen too much when it comes to female characters.... Shounen always had pretty decent female characters... Be like yu yu hakushou, hunter x hunter, one piece, bleach, gintama, magi,attack on Titan, sakomoto days, dandadan, csm, frieren,fairy tail fullmetal alchemist, dr stone and so on.. It's just people's definition of "well written" female character is always decided through Powerscaling.. I know that shounen females sometimes r sexualized a bit too much and can get over the top a lot of time but fanservice should never be associated with character writing... Credit should b given where it's due, whether that show has fanservice Or not.. It shouldn't matter

Great video, Asa! This topic has been on my mind for a while, and as a female anime fan, I want to share my thought. As a woman who has been watching shonen jump anime for arguably too long, the most important question I ask myself when evaluating a female character is this: what has she done throughout the story? This doesn’t have to be explicitly tied to fighting, though since this is shonen so that’s par for the course, but more than anything I care about how much this character has contributed to the story. It doesn’t matter is a woman can hit hard or is “subverting expectations” if she’s barely in the story to begin with. And frankly most of peoples’ praises or issues with female characters can either be corroborated or argued against when this single question is answered. Ochaco is not a terrible or poorly written character because she has a crush on a boy. She had her potential wasted because Horikoshi decided to side line her in favor of the more popular male characters. Maki is not a great character because she hits hard. She had the potential to be a great character because of her struggles and her personality was fun, but instead is just there to punch things now. And finally, Nobara was NOT a great character because she had both feminine and masculine traits and yes, hit hard. She was a fun character that had an incredibly awesome power and interesting backstory that was cut short when Akutami made the decision to remove her from the story a third of the way in. And yet, there is a shonen jump series that has a host of female characters that have participated story, sometimes as soon as they’re introduced, but is only brought up to be mocked: Black Clover. Say what you want about the female characters; that Noelle is nothing but a tsundere love interest, that Vanessa and Mimosa remove all stakes because they’re too overpowered, that Charmy is just a gag character, at least they fucking do something. These characters, and a lot of the other female characters in Black Clover, have individually and collectively participated in more fights or story-related events than any female character in MHA and JJK. And no, this is not subjective; simply go through each series and count how many fights or story-related events the female characters have played roles in and you will see how relevant these characters really were. Not only that, but a lot of these characters are support or healing mages, which means that they are relevant to the fights without directly damaging their opponents, showing that female characters can be strong without have to be physical or magical attackers. And yet whenever the female characters are brought up, it’s to deride them for the aforementioned reasons; yet the male characters, especially the “manly” ones like Yami and Magna, are almost always praised despite holding just as much relevance and getting the same amount of screen time. In the end, so much of this reeks of sexism and hypocrisy. Male characters get away with looking effeminate, have a crush on others, or show other traditionally feminine traits, but if a female characters does the same, she’s a “stereotype” or a “badly written” character. Judge a female character for what she contributes to the story, not by her femininity or lack thereof.

Yeah I definitely agree with the consensus of the video being that it's not _necessarily_ Gege having some sort of agenda against female characters but rather he has a very, _very_ bad track record with actually utilizing his side cast as efficiently as possible. Regardless of their status, gender and even Sorcery grade power level, they are just forgotten to the wayside by either kicking the bucket or just never showing up after one or two fights in favor of the main characters and villains. The amount of misopportunity to actually further develop his sight cast is just completely missing since the manga's always going to the next big thing. Hell, I'll go as far as to say even the main cast suffers from parts of this too, although I haven't caught up to the manga in a long time. Whenever I see a moment where Yuji, or Megumi can just sit down and the story is able to further explore the emotions, feelings and overall trauma of these characters and humanize them, only for Gege to move on and just blatantly overlook that opportunity. It just kind of just gets to me, you know?

It's funny seeing the comparison to fujimoto especially here because fujimoto also loves to fridge and sideline his side characters. He just loves powerful women with a fervor unseen in any other shonen jump author so the majority of relevant characters are women. Hell, it's not even close comparing plot relevance between the male and female characters in chainsaw man, it only seems 50/50 because fujoshi will find men to latch onto no matter what and fight fans don't care much about any characters. But when you look at the text, it's pretty clear who gets spotlighted the most. It's especially funny seeing the people comparing the csm and jjk female casts like it's even close when they put fucking asa, relatable loser extraordinaire, on the list. Like gege doesn't seem to hate women in particular, but he certainly doesn't particularly love them either. It's also funny he calls the lesbian pairing "male gaze" as if it's inherent to lesbian ships though. Because that's not really how male gaze works, maybe mha emphasizes some sort of 3some possibility but if it only really portrays their relationship to each other through each other it's not particularly male gazey. And I mostly mention that because funnily enough anyone who really wants to watch a show with complex female characters should really be following yuri fans closely, since yuri and adjacent shows are the ones that focus almost entirely on women. It's not all gonna be hits but it is certainly funny seeing people complain about no good female characters in anime while never having tried anything like revue starlight, symphogear (accidentally does some very interesting shit with hibiki), bocchi the rock, any magical girl shows (including dark ones that aren't shit), or otherwise pretty much anything with enough interesting female characters to ship in interesting ways.

I love jjk but Gege sensei's delivery when it comes to female characters is so subper it's disappointing. Can we please stop being so overhyped for characters when the series had like 2 seasons out, cos I remember everyone labeling Gege as a feminist on twitter as if he's doing some grand service towards women empowerment only for it to age so badly in the manga. Also I have to mention the fact that part of the jjk fanbase bashed on female chars from other shounen series, such as Sakura Orihime or Tsunade but at least these characters have so much depth despite having been created 20 something years ago. You think we'd have better in 2024 but the bar is still so low.

It’s because they didn’t have no character at all and was just used for the male gaze. Does that means I don’t want female characters that act masculine. No. Since not every woman act the same. My problem is when we demonize femininity since femininity isn’t the problem. It’s how the patriarchal society treats feminist as a problem when it is not. Sorry if this doesn’t make any scene. Nobara was clearly waisted to me. She kinda got that Sakura treatment to be be honest. You know.. When a female character starts to shine and ACTUALLY doing something which raises your expectations and makes you think the character is going to be really THERE only to be thrown away 2 sec later ? I say "Sakura treatment" because I saw the 2 being compared a lot when season 1 came out and people praising Nobara and saying that she was what Sakura should’ve been while she actually was done even worse. Yuki was waisted to the point that this is just outrageous. She barely got any screentime, no backstory, literally nothing and just straight up dies before even starting to be really active in the story which is such a shame because she clearly could’ve been one of the biggest jjk female icons alongside Maki and Nobara. She literally became a sacrifice again like almost everyone else and never got the possibility to shine which is such a shame. I already see you guys coming talking about Maki so fine let’s talk about her Well.. Maki is Toji.. But female. I’m sorry but at that point that’s the only thing noticeable about her now. It pain me to say that but Maki feels no longer herself anymore. Maki doesn’t have defined goals that made her stand out from the rest she’s just.. Toji. Everytime she fights or that an opponent or ally analyze her they don’t acknowledge her as who she is but only see Toji. Maki’s ambitions and dreams as well as everything that makes her special is gone. Maki isn’t a character anymore, Maki is just a way for Toji to stay relevant in the story despite literally dying before it even started. I’m so glad that you highlighted the fact that this problem also impacts a lot of male characters too but that the problem is that it spared none of the female characters and harmed them more.

I agree with the video. I also known you are smart. I know you hate it when people misinterpret what you say. I know you put a disclaimer that fighting strength or power is important in a Shonen. I just have this deep fear that it will push people away from making powerful female characters which might be unwarranted but I grew up my whole life wanting female characters to be relevant and powerful and I have been disappointed more times than I can count to the point of crying and I am not saying you are to blame but what I am trying to say is that I want female characters that can fight well and also have relevant stories. All I am hoping for is that in the future you go a little bit easier on physically strong or powerful female characters and make it more clear that you want them to have more deep character wise and they don’t have to be made weaker as well as making people understand more female characters could stand to be more powerful combat wise. I understand if you feel that you already made that clear I just wish it was even more clear. I am sorry for trauma dumping. I am sorry if the comment is too long or you find it annoying. I genuinely wish the best for you because you are a cool dude and I hope you have a great day.

Toji is the gender swapped version of maki, not the opposite. Maki was introduced and had her motivations, characteristics and goals laid out first. She was the first Heavenly restricted Zenin outcast and Toji has always a parallel to her. I also completely disagree that Yuki died "trying to save a male character". She died trying to kill the main antagonist, she refuses to jump into the fight despite Choso being in fatal danger because it wasn't optimal and only jumps in because what she was waiting for happened regardless of Choso's fate. She cares for him but she doesn't prioritize him over Kenjaku's defeat.

Nobara was described to be in the position of a “hero” rather than the “heroine”, so I was always curious what Gege plan with her. She has mostly stay as a strong head character, so during the reading of Shibuya I was hoping that this is when were start to see changes cause her friend Yuji is spiraling. And she’ll need to consider that with Gojo gone and the villain takeover, the chance of her dying in this line of work before meeting Saori is pretty high. So is she willing to commit to into the claws of Jujutsu society? But nope, she just die even when she’s about to get a power up against Mahito. Yuki is a character that was introduced to have heavy lore implications, a former Star Plasma vessel, a person that neither walk to the beat of Jujustu society or Curse User’s drums, a person that’s researching a way for human to have no curse energy. And then poof. 1 battle, no research. Gege created good concept but like he doesn’t really want to commit to most character or do character interactions. Aside from Geto&Gojo, Yuuji&Gojo; a lot of them don’t have much interactions going on which hurt their characterization. Nobara is Gojo’s student, yet in Season 1 there’s no scene of him or Nanami trying to teacher her anything. Then, Gojo and Megumi could’ve had more interactions as guardian and ward before he got sealed to elevate Sukuna vs Gojo. In the beginning he beat Sukuna to show off to Megumi, then in this battle he beat Sukuna in Megumi’s body to show off to all his other students. That parallel could be way cooler if we had more scenes with Gojo and his students.

Season one and the early parts of season 2 made me really like Nobara. Not as like a revolutionary groundbreaking character, but she’s was a comfort character that I really loved to see just like interact with the rest of the cast and her personality resonated with me a lot. I got spoiled that she dies and so I put off watching the rest of season 2 until yesterday and words can’t express how much I felt robbed of a character I adored. She put in no work and got no screen time until she Nanami needed a moment and then she died. I think the show has moments and themes that are incredibly well done, but I’m starting to see a massive gap form in the capabilities of the main cast and the side cast that is incredibly reminiscent of dragon ball and I’m extremely worried about how the series will proceed

For me nobara fell flat from the beginning.almost all of jjk's characters are built around the fast pacing of the manga,gojo's escalation to godhood,yuji's suppression,mahito being the anti human ultimatum curse these all fit right into the faster pacing of the show.hell,even geto who turned evil in an moments notice already viewed non sorcerers weak,calling question on his original views to begin with.

What sets people over the edge when it comes to jjk's female is sad, frustrating,anger, all the negative emotions combined Like they introduced "great characters who happens to be female" They didn't went with the female characters there for "plot,love interest or ornament" They were so developed but at the same time real with many great motivation and stood on the same level as many male characters and all these things breaks "anime norm" And at first when nobara died, we deluded ourselves into believing "it's understandable" But after maki turning into a reflection of a male character, Yuki..... unreasonable death and many more ........it became clear that jjk didn't care about female characters and nobara was wasted Like no offense but if jjk's female characters was introduced and was as same as many popular anime female characters....just for show, fanservice,plot, ornament.....we won't have cared so much about wether jjk failed female characters or not We were given so much hope and all these new elements were brought on how they were able to defies anime norms but they constantly kept on failing them So i don't care, jjk female characters are just as sheety written as most of the others anime female, we were just delusional

I'm probably gonna get slandered for saying this, because people love to just view her in the most superficial and missguided way possible, but Mikasa from AOT as a female character is a lot better from purely a writing stand-point than Nobara or any of the JJK girls.

Many, many good points. Absolutely agree that the standard for Female characters is incredibly low when they should just be held to the same standard any character should, be decently good. There were some promising moments for the JJK female cast, but aside from Maki it’s entirely……overrated. I think now what really keeps people looking into the cast is they just being hot, which is cool, but……I want a character man. Justice for Yuki and Nobara ✊

So I think I know why JJK gets praise for its female characters and why it’s misplaced. It’s not that the female characters are inherently groundbreaking, it’s how the author treats the female characters. They never use them for outright sex appeal or portrays them in a demeaning exploitative way. Is Nami from one piece a better character than Nobara? Yes. Does her design change from pre to post time skip make me gag. Also yes and that’s where gege breaks the mold. They aren’t at all exploitative in their design of female characters.

Frl. The bar is so low for shounen anime that a series gets praised for something as simple as "Didn't make hypersexual designs." But if I had to choose between poorly-executed female characters vs amazing female characters with male-gazey designs (One Piece), I'd rather have the latter
@BOGOworms4sale
@BOGOworms4sale Ай бұрын
@@hannahw7023 that’s totally fair and I don’t blame you. I’m on the other side where it’s such a breath of fresh air design wise to be like hey I really like this female character’s design and not have to recoil in shame. That being said, I think Jojo does a good job of balancing both which is why jolyne is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. She still has a provocative and at times risqué design, but she’s also treated respectfully in the story and isn’t HYPER sexualized.

"This series just doesn't really like its cast." THERE IT IS. THERE IT FREAKING ISSSSSSSSS. Not just the female characters, but most of the male characters, too, like it is COMPLETELY uninterested in exploring any of these people as PEOPLE aside from maybe Satoru Gojo. Which, don't get me wrong, Gojo is genuinely a very fascinating character, but he CANNOT carry this whole series on his shoulders forever just like he couldn't carry the jujutsu world on his shoulders forever. There are so many characters that could be genuinely interesting, fleshed out people, and they really made some great strides in that direction with the movie (best piece of JJK media I've seen thus far), but there was NO followup on that for characters like Inumaki or Panda. Inumaki has one of the most interesting gimmicks and powers along with a debilitating handicap that he has to work around, but none of that is EVER explored; he got 4 lines in S2 and has been, for all intents and purposes, permanently sidelined. *Yuta* has used Toge's own curse technique more than he has at this point! That's just sad. Nobara absolutely deserved better, too; she reminded me a little of Rachel from the Animorphs book series, which is a huge complement, because I cannot think of a SINGLE other character in media quite like Rachel. A preppy, beautiful, popular gymnast who loved shopping, clothes, fashion, *and* her eventual boyfriend... who was also the single most bloodthirsty member of the main cast, who loved the thrill of battle, who was always the first one into a fight and the last one out of it, who scared both her friends and *herself* with how vicious she could sometimes be, who was stalwartly strong, and loyal, and selfless, and loving, and unapologetically *feminine.* Nobara felt like she could have become that type of character for JJK, and I was all for that... and then the Shabuya arc happened. And now it really doesn't matter if she's dead or not, because it's not like she'll ever have a significant affect on the story again. :/ And that... it just feels bad, scoob. This all feels *bad.* And it SUCKS, because JJK really could have been something so special. But apart from the amazing action sequences, it just feels... hollow. You cannot speedrun a story and character development and expect people to care. Period.

Also I agree with you on the fact that fans can not accept female characters being human or weak or just in love as if it's something bad, while fans simultaneously being in love with fictional men who don't exist. I mean I'm a simp for Gojo so why can't female characters find a person to be romantically invested as well. Why is that part of her personality non existent. Shounen female chars really follow some extreme archetypes to the point it erases their humanity, sometimes I feel like male mangaka do not really understand women they're so far detached from reality it hurts.

Its not even like JJK is bad at doing characterization in battles. Hell, a lot of the fights in the culling games do have some fun characterization for the enemy sorcerers...who then promptly turn into complete morons and die instantly. A lot of their deaths are made even more bizarre by how brainless they are. These characters who are introduced as being cunning as any other sorcerer suddenly make the dumbest possible decisions or strategies that wind up with them getting killed, most of the time, without doing or accomplishing anything, making all the time spent with them feel like a waste. Yeah, I don't think JJK likes its cast.
