She was so beautiful as she grew up and became a young woman!

J. Edgar Hoover was a good friend of Shirley Temple. They became friend when she was a child, and kept. up over the years. Before she married her second husband, Hoover investigated him fully just to be a friend. No way she would fail that FBI investigation.

Shirley Temple regretted marrying Agar. He cheated on her numerous times. There were other reasons (drinking) she got rid of him. They met when she was 17 and he was around 24 on the set of Ft. Apache. It was well known he drank lots of alchohol. As did other actors in the John Ford crew! After 4 to 5 years she filed for divorce and it was granted for mental cruelty! Because of that, Agar never recovered and was relegated to "B" movie rolls! P.S. I have to add. Agar should never had screwed over *"America's Sweetheart!"*

The first time I saw John Agar was on TV on a series called Ramar of the Jungle. I fell in love with him that day.

I'm sure SHE regretted marriage to him.

Who knows if it was possible her first was a "studio arranged" marriage?! At least she did it right the second time with Charles Black because they were married until his death in 2005.

I remember him from some of those monster films. Shirley Temple was far to young to marry him.

I've always enjoyed John Agar's movies and I suspect that it was no picnic being married to Shirley. People tend to remember her as cute little Shirley and paint her a saint and she most definitely wasn't. I've seen numerous pictures of her back in the day in her teenage years drinking and smoking in night clubs and acting all grown up which she wasn't. I suspect she was not mature enough for the responsibility of marriage. She tended to put all the blame on him and he most certainly had problems but it takes two people to make a marriage work and normally there is fault on both sides. Not putting the lady down but I suspect she contributed to the marriage failing just as much as he did. John Agar was probably not easy to live with I'm sure but I don't believe he was solely to blame.

Perhaps not so much as the studio regretted the marriage of their child star....

John Agar claimed Shirley Temple's mother interfered in their marriage too much, and Shirley would overract if she didnt get her way. He remarried and stayed married for almost 50 years. His sons claim that Shirley's allegations against him were all lies.

No, it's the other way around. She broke her water because Agar made a movie, possibly exploiting Temple's name.

Fort apache 1948 brought them together on screen!

Probably they both had regrets... she was too young and protected to get married to anyone.

I remember as a little boy in the late 60s hearing that Shirley Temple was in her 40s, and thinking "NO WAY! I just saw her on tv and I KNOW she's little like me!" 🤣🤣🤣

There are two sides to a marriage. I believe he was a good husband. And since no one was there to see what really happened I will reserve judgement.

It was the reverse. Agar wasn't in pictures and wasn't going to do them, then after they married he changed his mind and became a heavy drinker....

Never knew Shirley did films after childhood, nor politics.

She regretted marrying him. He broke his word. Her one condition was NEVER go into movies or acting. He failed to keep his promise. Shirley said 'Sayonara' once and that was it. Done! No one needs to be around an immature male who can't keep promises. Clearly there was a reason she married him at 17 and never ever wanted to be in the movie world again. The instant she said Sayonara, there was nothing left to say.

I heard tht he was a terrible husband. I don't know but they say he used to beat her. Like i don't know but that's what some have said.

It's too bad that she was Republican. Also I wasn't a major fan of her. She was okay, she did okay as far as her singing. She could not sing she did, okay? I tried to tend to sing and thank god she did not get the role of dorothy in the widget of oz oh hell to banana
