Short Life and Tragic Ending of Judy Holliday - Actress With The Highest IQs.
Judy Holliday, born Judith Tuvim on June 21, 1921, was an American actress whose remarkable talent and wit charmed audiences on both stage and screen during the mid-20th century. Hailing from New York City, she initially pursued a career in acting after attending the Actors Studio. Her big break came in 1946 when she portrayed the lovable, but not-so-bright Billie Dawn in the Broadway play "Born Yesterday," a role that would define her career.

🙋‍♀️ Judy was one of my favorite actresses of that era, along with _Born Yesterday_ being in my top 10 favorite list. I didn’t know a lot of her history until now, so this is much appreciated. I’m not surprised she ranked so highly in intelligence because I feel that was spotlighted simply by watching her spin genius in the aforementioned movie.

What is sad to learn the men she was involved or married abused her and took advantage of her. For that reason, I wished she had been wise. However, we don't know everything about people until it is too late. That's where divorced become a way out of staying with anyone that takes advantage of us women.

Judy Holliday was a gifted performer. Her role in The Solid Gold Cadillac should not be overlooked. In this David vs. Goliath story she plays a shareholder of a small amount of stock who uncovers and defeats the corrupt corporate bosses of an American company. This should be a reminder to us all of the great things that can be accomplished through honesty and a genuine regard for one’s fellow man.

What a lovely sentiment. I live adjacent to Woodlawn cemetery in the Bronx, and on several occasions would take friends or visitors to visit Irving Berlin's gravesite. I wonder if people still gather there to sing his songs as a July 4th tribute. On the other hand, I can remember seeing Al Jolson's extremely grandiose gravesite from a great distance while driving past the cemetery on a nearby freeway during a trip to Los Angeles. Happily, I got to visit later in my trip, where I totally ignored Jolson's repulsively self-aggrandizing monument to himself and immediately went to put my coin on the plaque marking the modest, non-descript crypt of a far more worthy man: "Eddie Cantor. Beloved husband, father and grandfather. 1892 -- 1964". That's the aisle I want to sit on if go to my heavenly reward, so that the pigeons can poop on Jolson's gargantuan statue undisturbed

She won over Bette Davis in All About Eve !
@johnpickford4222
@johnpickford4222 Жыл бұрын
@TheFiown: Grow up. There are five nominees and the votes are split. So if Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and Gloria Swanson each received 20% and Eleanor Parker received 15%, then Holliday received 25% and won. It is likely that had Anne Baxter been nominated in the Best Supporting, Bette Davis would have won. I love Judy Holliday but Bette Davis have s better performance.
@hcombs0104
@hcombs0104 Жыл бұрын
I would have to say Sunset Boulevard and All About Eve are more iconic than Born Yesterday, but Judy Holliday's performance was every bit as good as either Gloria Swanson's or Bette Davis'. BTW I would have voted Gloria Swanson over Bette Davis. And Anne Baxter's role was no more supporting than Bette Davis'...in fact it was more of an ensemble piece than anything else.

Wonderful wonderful actress. She took the academy award well deserved. All of the actresses nominated were all very good…But Judy Holiday stole the show away from BettyDavis and that was hard to do. Because Betty Davis was my favorite actors. 11:14 Betty was very happy for Judy Holiday to have won the Oscar I am sure!

Green-wich???? Is this AI? A computer voice? A robot? How could a narrator know anything, without knowing that the long accepted pronunciation is Gren-ich. (as in Gren-ich Village and Gren-ich Mean Time ?????). In with all of this highly detailed information, how does the narrator make this mistake? Listener does not need to know very much about New York City, to know that in references to "the Village" the "w" of Green (w) ich is not pronounced.

Loved Judy Holiday. I especially liked her in The Marrying Kind which is about a couple divorcing. The judge takes them into her chambers and asks them what happened to their marriage. In a series of flashbacks you see what happened and it just shows an average life with real average people. Not like now where everyone is beautiful, rich etc. Sad in some parts but wonderful in others. A very heartwarming film. Such a tragic end to such a talented woman. RIP Judy.
