G100 has a great form factor, but with a smaller form factor, it is likely that video performance would not be quite like it is in the G9 II. There needs to be room for a cooling system to be able to deal with modern video capabilities’ demand.@@glpro2696

Nice video. I shoot with a GH5II and am fairly happy with micro four thirds so I thought about ordering the G9II. In the end though I decided to order the S5II. I was able to get it on sale with the 20-60mm for slightly cheaper than the G9II standalone. It just made sense. Now I get to enter the world of full frame with a beast of a camera, and use GH5II as a secondary. Super excited by the direction Panasonic is taking. It would be nice to see a couple new M43 lenses though, to show they are still invested in those users for the long-term

Well I think that the G9Ii is a great camera. I was aiming to buy one in Europe during a trip but I wasn't able to get it because it wasn't available anywhere due it is very new. Luckily I got a GH5 mkIi which I think is nothing to be shamed about as you said. Also it cost me almost a half of what the G9Ii was. I think %80 of the specs for almost half the price is a bargain at least for my kind of use .

I am seriously considering trading my S5 IIX and invest in some good Panasonic Leica lenses. I love the G9 ii so much as to everything I ever wanted on a camera. Light, great grip, fantastic sensor and class leasing IBIS, and the 4k 100/120fps too. The autofocus is so much better compared to the S5 IIX. I did want to ask would it be worth trading panleica 12-60mm f2.8-4 for the 12-35mm mk ii? 🤔

Thanks for the video! I wish Panasonic had fixed the audio interference problem on the G9II, which has been affecting the audio signal path since the PDAF was introduced. Recordings with an external microphone on the S5II and S5IIx are disturbed by a low, high-frequency pulsating noise. Maybe I'm wrong, but my G9II now seems to have introduced some kind of frequency cancellation when recording with an external microphone, which makes the recorded audio sound tinny. Did you film the take "My only gripe so far" with the S5II and the take "Overheating & Photograph" with the G9II? Then you might hear what I mean by "tinny".
@GeekyNerdyTechy
@GeekyNerdyTechy 5 ай бұрын
I haven't noticed that. Usually, interference is related to some sort of wifi or poorly insulated cables. I've shot with this a bunch with a wireless pack directly to the camera without any issues but haven't recorded/tested any external mics. I shot the entire last video with the G9II with the same audio pack but the levels might not have been set up the same between both cameras. I'll check it out cheers.

Hi Shane, the footage looks stellar. I assume you’re shooting in ‘aperture’ priority. I’ve been brainwashed by so many KZfaqrs who swear you can only create a good video if you shoot using the 180 degree rule using ND filters. While this is the best way to get the “cinematic” look, it’s a right pain in the butt. Your videos are proof that shooting hassle-free from fiddling with ND filters is a valid alternative. Cheers
@GeekyNerdyTechy

Thanks mate. I generally use Aperture priority mode to keep things simple and I will still use an ND when shooting outside, but that's it. I use the 180 degree shutter speed when I am in the studio or in controlled conditions, but never outside anymore. Most people can't tell the difference watching. Cheers :)

I really need some advice. I wanna make film and photography a career and I’ve had a Panasonic g85 for about 4 years as my first camera but it’s just not cutting it anymore. I wanna primarily do video projects, more like short films, but I do like doing photo shoots and just photography in general. I’m just having a hard time figuring out what camera to get as I’m obviously on a budget so I can’t really buy two cameras like what others have recommended. For example they use the g9ii as a B cam and something like a s5iix as their main. I only use micro 4/3 and have 4 lenses already so it just makes sense for me to still use micro 4/3 for now. Would a g9ii be better or the gh6?
@GeekyNerdyTechy
@GeekyNerdyTechy 2 ай бұрын
I've owned a few G85 cameras and the G9II will be a huge upgrade in terms of quality, resolutions, autofocus, colour science, and features. The slow motion out of the G9II is so good and it'll be a lot better in terms of low light than the G85. That said, the GH6 has active cooling and if you plan on shooting for hours at a time it'll be the better choice - but the win goes to the G9II.

Panasonic said they replaced the fan on the S5II with a new gyroscope sensor on the G9II, which allowed them to electronically correct for the flapping/wobble and also added a EIS strong mode to emulate gimbals, but with a tighter crop (9% vs 25%). The S5II only has the regular EIS, which is just to smoothen the bumps.

I don’t often shoot anything over 4k120p where the image quality looks great. I don’t like the HFR frame rates on these camera. I mentioned that in my initial review that it falls apart once you’re in the manual focus modes.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thanks, mate! You are right, the VFR mode at 300p with only manual focus sucks, although it can still be useful whenever the ultra slow mo effect is worth the loss of IQ. However, I thought the HFR FHD at 200p, which is a regular shooting mode just like C4K 100/120p, where you can shoot in 4:2:2 10bit and continuous AF, would provide a much better image. Also, I see many examples on youtube with a decent looking image, which had me confused. I think I will stick to C4k100p as well, and use "optical flow" if I want the footage even slower ;-)

@GeekyNerdyTechy

The G9II has the DR Boost feature built into the sensor so it's always on unless you're shooting above 60p. On the GH6, you have to turn that on to get the best results which bumps the ISO up to 2000 in Vlog and 800 from memory in the normal picture profiles. The Advantage goes to the G9II there, but otherwise the end result is very similar. I still think the GH6 has some of the best color science of any camera out there. The G9II just makes the process a lot easier thanks to better autofocus and not having to worry about DR Boost.
@vesku2676
@vesku2676 4 ай бұрын
So are you seeing visible improvement in low iso. It is now difficult to use my gh6. Using dyn boost makes too noisy and not using It is a pity because gh6 has so clever feature. In fact dyn boost is not increasing dyn range because there is no latitude in darks at iso2000.

A Lumix GH6-S, a camera with A new M43 Sensor with a x1.7 crop factor, instead the x1.8 crop of the GH5S, or the x2 crop traditional m43. Without the need of any Speedbooster.🚫 Where, the Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 lens would become a Panasonic 17-42mm f2.8 lens fullframe equivalent, and the 25-50mm f1.7 lens would go equivalently to a 42-85mm f2.8 lens. OMG!!🫶😍 The Panasonic 45,5mm f1.2 lens , would be a 72mm f2.0 lens fullframe equivalent. Even the Panasonic 25mm f1.4 lens, would go to a 42mm f2.3 lens fullframe equivalent. So far, after a month of using G9II... let's say I am kinda disappointed... AFC setting is pain in the *** and it will take a time to try all possibilities and set it right... on original G9 I was using AFF (sadly missing on G9II) when taking photos of my kids and lets say 80% of what I take was in focus... on G9II with AFC 20% is in focus (talking about kids playing around, bobsleding - meaning moving towards me)... perhaps I am missing something out... But I had G80, G90, G9 always used AFF and always was satisfied with outcome... Now with G9II I am not :-( If someone can enlighten me, give advice... I will be thrilled... otherwise the camera is a beast and autofocus is really fast (but out)...

If you're tracking people turn the human detection on. It'll bring up a yellow box around the subject. If you're shooting photos just turn it on from the photo -> focus options in the menu. Also take into account old lenses like the 20mm F1.7 will still perform bad as that had near zero AFC. I hope this helps.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thanks for quick response. Human body/eye detection is always on and tracking works just fine. Yet when I take a photo of moving object it's usually out of focus... I'm using mainly 35-100mm F2.8mk2 and sigma 56mm f1.4 (around f2.0-2.2)... It's frustrating... I have to look at "AF prediction" setting perhaps it helps... Or perhaps my unit is faulty...

If you need a specific area in focus try the one area plus mode. I tested it for burst photography in my initial review on a moving subject and the hit rate was nearly perfect. I haven't tested sigma before but try putting a one area box up over someones face and giving that a shot. @@nejlidr870

Interesting idea but mft lenses would be useless on fullframe, a 40mp sensor with m43 crop gets only 10mp resolution

@MyLifeFrAiurGaming 10mp is just 2mp from the a7siii and 4k is 8mp right :)

Didnt this guy just post a video less than 5 days ago about barely getting the camera and now he's already making a "definitive" review on it?? That's waaaaaaay too soon to know if it's gonna be a proper long term investment X.x

It's not a long term review. It's a user experience review on my testing with it for the job I wanted it for.

He already made a review during the launch of the camera. So this definitely isn't his first Rodeo with this camera

Well, interesting video, but the title was "Did My LUMIX G9II Live Up To Expectations?" So what were your expectations and did it live up to them? That question was never answered....
