With the unsurprising news that came out this week, I decided to do a comparison between Yuki and Nyck at the British GP. This comparison compares their fastest laps at the end of Q1.
While Nyck has not lived up to his expectations, I believe the bigger concern should be the performance of that Alpha Tauri. Let’s hope Daniel can do better.

Amazing stuff, but I think your work is way over Helmut Marko's head. His metrics are much simpler: Nyck is more experienced than Yuki, yet didn't manage to decrease the gap to him after 10 races, therefore the expectation is that Nyck will never close the gap to Yuki, so why waste more time? Also, my personal opinion is that Nyck hat too many incidents with other drivers, you can't be slower than your teammate *and* crash the car.

@markhompe23 10 ай бұрын
At first, I thought it was a bit unfair because the AT is slower than usual so the results aren't saying much. For a rookie, the gap isn't shocking, but i didn't know they expected Nyck to be the most experienced driver. Considering Nyck as a first driver, he definitely deserved to be dropped. Nyck his results are comparable with a rookie, not with a experienced driver.

@@markhompe23 Nick is 28 and 2 1/2 Years older then Verstappen. They cant wait for him do develop like Tsunoda over 3 years. And they need experience to help develop the car. The car is bad, they need someone who makes it clear its not the drivers and the set ups that screw them, but their engineering and development.

@@Cloney1337AT have their engineering split over two countries and have aging facilities compared to other teams. Then they went the opposite direction in development to redbull. They need to move to England and use as many parts from redbull as possible.

Imho, it's very logical to get rid of De Vries. He was originally brought to the team as number one, experienced driver to help to develop the car and this was the exact expectation. He failed to showcase anything across 10 races and got replaced by way more experienced number one driver. Red bull never looked at De Vries as a rookie guy as they already have Tsunoda in the car and would've brought Lawson if they needed another youngster.

He himself seemed to demand he didn't get the rookie treatment because he was so sure he'd bring results unlike that of a rookie.

Also he's had too many incidents with other drivers in which HE was the cause for that and has damaged the car on multiple occasions .

NdV is 28. They cant wait for him to develop over several years. (Which also might never happen, as with 28 drivers usually are at their peak). Also AT is such a bad car, that they need more experience in this shitbox to develop it. I dont think they kicked him for speed alone. They expected a seasoned formula champion and mercedes development driver and got a 28 year old rookie. Thats on Marko and his miscalculations, neither Tost nor Horner wanted NdV. Now he is correcting his mistake.

Will be tough for DR as AT has same issue as the McLaren had last season and DR struggled with that car, but fingers crossed he can be competitive against Yuki

For a 28 year old rookie or not he just wasn’t fast enough sadly. U can work on consistency but u can’t improve inherent speed with someone of that age

Yes, Nyck de Fraud fully deserved it. He doesn't drive well, he gets a beating from a teammate, on top of that he's not even young. There is no reason to defend him. With such experience he should be driving at a high level from the get-go. A driver at the age of 28 is usually verified and it is known whether his level reaches F1 or WEC, maybe Indy or Formula E. I think the secret to his good performance at Monza in 2022 was Alex Albon's setup, which made no sense to change just before qualifying.

I am Yuki's and Daniel's fan. But I was always admired at De Vries's way of use Pirelli tyres with such like AT04. I think it must be too defficult to be adapted , especialiy for the driver from the other categories. I hoped Dr.Marko to wait a little bit more... SuperFormula drivers adapted to Yokohama , FormulaE drivers adapted to Michellin or Hankook. Maybe 2023 F2 drivers are also good choise for F1. Oops , but Lawson is doing great at SF , that's another amazing thing.

Deserved sack. AT hired him for the exp and he came in guns blazing about how he is going to lead. RB is a cutthroat environment lead by results, no surprise- His choice, he made his bed. Could've chose williams to develop but he hopped off the mercedes program

It’s one of the harshest decisions I’ve seen. An average gap of 2-3 tenths in your rookie season, a car that is incredibly difficult to drive For that to be a sackable offense they must not rate Tsunoda imo, it’s like, you’re slower than HIM?

The story of each rookie. Some get booted, some manage to get the experience they need and to continue to perform. Nyck was in the first category, I reckon that given a bit more time he could have proven what was to be proven. P.S.: we were never told what was supposed to happen if Nyck outperformed Yuki... I mean... how does this work? Like a dog fight?

He should’ve been given a whole season atleast so it definitely wasn’t fair but that’s RB for you they are ruthless when it comes to making decisions to remove drivers. If Daniel does better, and beats U.K. then I don’t see how Perez stays in RB unless Perez improves drastically he will be out.

When you join Red Bull Racing youre under no illusions about whether you need to perform. De Vries wasnt hired as a rookie, be was hired as an experienced driver. Too many - expensive - incidents with the car and nowhere near close enough to TSU. Also, it wasnt as if he was showing any real progress that showed that he'd be significantly faster at year's end. Conversely, RBR had a driver on their books who absolutely shredded it - only two-tenths slower than VER's Q3 time - in the RB19 and who will seek another seat if not given an opportunity. Liam Lawson also sitting in the wings. He wont be surprised that he was let go and waiting to the end of the year was just going to waste time.

Nyck’s Silverstone race was compromised 1. Unnecessary tyre change (twice within 5 laps) 2. Teamorder (do not pass Yuki). Not fair!

All these people do not realise Ricciardo is washed. Why create such a hype around him, I simply don't understand. I was a diehard fan of ricciardo, but his actions are simply too materialistic and want an easy life. If he wanted money, why get into Formula 1? Go do some other media stuff

Professional sport is a hugely mental game. And no sport more than F1 where pressure can seem insurmountable. DR's recent test at Silverstone shows that he still has raw pace - he was only two-tenths slower than VER's Q3 time - and the right environment will, hopefully, see RIC perform well. You've completely miscalculated his reasoning for his team choices as being "materialistic". As an eight-time GP winner who was at the top of his game at Renault, McLaren sold him the dream and showed him that they valued him. His terrible tine at McLaren wasn't his fault alone. Norris has still not won a race while Daniel did. This showed what he can do in the right car. Lastly, you think RBR would dump De Vries and put RIC in, instead of Lawson, if they thought he was 'washed'? You think they haven't done their research? Honestly, the dopey opinions on social media are fascinating.

Consider that RB might be seeing something in DR that we can't. Maybe he truly is back, or maybe he's washed. Let's wait to see his performance before calling it one way or another.
