Nice discussion, dudes, but you forgot to mention that Alex, while he was at Cleveland, made up the detailed game plan for every upcoming game, a plan that was the basis for the actual play calls during the game.

True, the Bills were bad (6-10; Pats 10-6) in 2009, but you can't directly blame Alex's play-calling for that. The Bills were perennially bad in those days, and the head coach got fired in 2009.

I prefer van pelt to Calley. It’s nice to have some experience on 1 side so Mayo can focus more on helping Defense and Special Teams. Also gathering from the surprise and disappointment in players and coaches in Cleveland after his firing suggests he was well liked. He also helped Cleveland to the playoffs despite not having Watson and Chub. Calley has 0 experience at the coordinator level.

Y'all just don't know how good AVP is. Cleveland Browns players are not happy AVP was let go. Now Kraft has to get more talent or it doesn't matter who you have for offensive coordinator.

I am a bit later than others it seems but sent Doug a brief email. My wife works counseling parents that have dealt with trauma and loss among other things. It is such a heavy and hard to bear weight no one should ever be alone dealing with it. Along with my verbal support I made sure to leave that door open. You never know if people are struggling if you don't ask. Hug your family everyone.

my first reaction, probably like most people "who?" but the more i hear the more i like, former qb? nice. long time qb coach? experiance. part of that browns frankenstien monster last year? you know that took work. browns players pissed hes gone? sounds like good culture. 14th candidate? sounds like Mayo didn't settle for just "ok" but waited till he found a good vibe. theres some good signs here, i like this

Who knows if it's right, but we know it was cheap. Nice going Krafty with your low-cost collaborative approach. The first return of the collaborative approach was drafting Mac Jones. How'd that work out for ya Bob? Maybe you should just spend more time in your Asian massage parlors where we all know you are more comfortable.

So, you guys were upset that they didn't talk to enough people in hiring the HC and DC and they decided too quickly but, now, they talked to too many people and it took too much time? Do you guys EVER listen to yourselves? Van Pelt is a much better choice than Caley would have been. Yeah, we know...you and Caley were buddies and you were hoping he'd be selected in order to make your own job easier. Now, with Van Pelt, you have to go to work again. It sucks for you but other people have to work at their jobs, too.

Part of me is hoping the Krafts understand the next few years are going to be bad and there’s no need to crazy with hiring coaches. The current staff is objectively below average and there’s no way around that fact.

You clearly had good intel on Caley, Reiss reported that Caley was "well-positioned" for the job. My guess is they couldn't agree financially, and the Pats had to pivot to their next choice for OC.

I'm not a big Mike G fan. Sorry but he comes across like a scorned ex. If you want to know the negatives on someone then he's your guy but... I think he's too knowledge and experienced to not see positives. His opinions always plays it safe by hugging the negatives and sticking to the obvious. No thanks, I can find out that info on my own. Going out on a limb and making a positive prediction with your vast knowledge and insight would be helpful Mike.

I don’t understand why this exercise of hiring a staff and front office looks so disjointed and a n absolute cluster. The reports of BB getting fired mid season were loud and consistent. It does not appear that the Krafts or Mayo had a thoughtful plan on how to move forward. I also think Mayo should have hired a coordinator that was a former head coach to help him navigate this first year.
