Jets are not a think outside the box organization. The management is stale. No other franchise goes as long as the Jets with the same staff year after year. Vancouver brought in Cami Granato, Toronto has Haley Wickenheiser for new perspective. You can tell exactly the type of player they will pick up at trade deadline and who they want to keep despite their major flaws that everyone else but they see. In season they never seem to be looking to improve or doing everything possible to win because they’re just too happy the “ family” is together and is getting along. Name another Team that keeps an underperforming , low ceiling player like Stanley ? Now in his Eighth year as a Jet and paid over a million for being tall. Unbelievable.

I’m done with McGroaty but I would also look at the Dad and the agent before blaming the kid. That said, Rutger couldn’t have done any worse than Monahan or Toffoli vs the Avs.

Rutger is comparing himself to his college teammates. None of his teammates got this kind of treatment, every teams picked his teammates saved a spot for them and burned a year of ELC. This is the top school produces top American talents every year. Jets did to the wrong school, it is not from whatever OHL team in Canada or Finland that no one cares. This is the top NCAA school in America, they are too powerful. NCAA players are getting NIL money now. If Jets can't adopt the new norm, don't pick NCAA players. They just burn their reputation to ground and don't complain no free agents want to come.

@@Actionronnie Frank Nazar, just 1 pick before McGroarty. Luke Hughes. Kent Johnson. Owen Power. Bernier. I can continue with more. Lane Hutson, not college teammate, is US teammate. No one treats top NCAA picks like Jets did.

Laine and Ehlers both skipped the Moose, you could make a good argument that McGroarty is at that level now. Integral member of a Frozen Four team, captain of the World Junior champs and touted as a future Jet's captain. Give the kid a spot to start the season, keep him there based on performance. I'm an Appleton fan but, a Nino - Lowry - McGroarty 3rd line is intriguing.

Laine was a god. Ehlers only played his draft +1, he'd have to go back to junior if he wasn't going to be on the Jets.

@@kurtwpg That's all true, I'm not comparing individual circumstances, so much as pointing out that a Jet's top end prospect skipping the minors is not precedent setting. Whether McGroarty's current level of development is worthy of that is certainly debatable. I think the potential ROI is worth the risk.

That's where I've not been thrilled with Winnipeg's planning. Would have been nice if they'd maybe thought about this situation well in advance. Oh well, so it goes.

Give Rutger a spot before Brad Lambert or Chibrikov who has earned it.Don't think it's okay at all. If he is that good let him earn it. No guarantees

It is the new norm for NCAA players. Teams might have some leverage if it’s 3rd or 4th rounder, not with 1st rounder. You can’t do it, don’t pick NCAA players. Burn a year ELC and give them a spot from get go. It is up to them to keep the spot. Their school will back them up with NIL money, Jets really don’t have much leverage there but to follow this way.

Michigan can easily pay him $1M NIL and keep him for 2 more years for frozen four run every year. He will be free agent when he graduates and teams will want pay him for $4M/yr that time. This is new standard now, Jets has no leverage there. Just don’t pick NCAA players, stick with OHL Canadian players, so you have leverage over them.
