About this video: Today we will be checking the splits at the farm bee yard to see if the bees made replacement queens.
This Channel:
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

Buddy it has been hot for sure. I have to check mine as well and boy I'm not looking forward to that heat. My jacket zipper busted so I have to go back to the full suit HOT stuff. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

I been combining NUC hives with a failed queen because when its hot the bees lose interest in making cells and ignore the egg frame. Its easier to requeen a split in the fall after it cools off and there is a nectar/pollen flow. Good to know the orchard is doing well.

Those new queens are so beautiful to see. Good luck with the three remaining ones. My guess is two will have a laying queen next week??

I hope so. I have checked the hives again since this video and have seen queen cells in the hives I added eggs too. The new queens are cooking :-)

Just wondering in your area when would be the latest you would do splits and let them make their own queens?
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees Ай бұрын
I guess the latest I might do splits and allow them to make their own queen would be September as long as there were resources in the hives and there are still drones flying around.

Hello again. How can I copy that metal structure to leave the frames or racks? The one that you assemble on the sides on one side of the hives and allows you to organize the frames while they are checked in an orderly manner. I think it could be a very useful tool to review and reinforce hives among themselves. A very affectionate greeting to you and your team, I try to watch all your videos.

Hello, thank you very much for responding. No, I'm referring to the iron that he places on the side of the boxes while he checks the paintings. This structure supports the frames already reviewed, which allows you to have them closer to you when you incorporate them back into the hive. I would send you the photos I captured from my , but KZfaq won't allow me. Do you have any email or Wattsapp?

Do you have enough pollen coming in to harvest? Mine pack in a lot during the spring almost filling the brood areas 😮the little buggers. Almost bought one of those push in queen cages the other day but talked myself out of it idk why. 🐝🐝

I could scrape it up aff the ground. Actually, the farm is a huge pollen producer. Maybe next spring I'll add some pollen traps to the hives and start to gather some to sell.

I'm not sure about the sugar water spray. I sounds good in theory but I would imagine it would attract other bees.

Back in the 70's I read all the beekeeping books in our library. Published in the 40's & 50's. Sugar water spray was common, especially on swarms. I bought a beginner's kit from AI Root. They came with a spray bottle for syrup.

I haven't had any trouble as of yet and it seems to give the bees something to do while I am in their hive. Generally this time of year in my area the bees are a bit more aggressive than normal as they are protecting their resources. light syrup spay seems to keep them happy :-).

It is also my understanding that if you. are planning to enter your honey in a competition using sugar water as opposed to smoke is the way to go because the judges can taste the smoke in the honey and will ding you points.
