The EPA paper for the product says 2 grams per deep box it doesn't differentiate between 8 frame or 10 frame so you could use 4 grams for those double deeps. Technically folks have used more in a research setting and had good results. Having 8 frame equipment we kinda get to float in that gray area and get a more effective dose legally with 4 grams since we have about 4 frames less than 10 frame hives have. Good video! I just finished our 3rd round of OA this week and saw a fair amount of dead Varroa. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting. And convenient. Question. How are you plugging those holes you are making in the hives? Ii would like to do that> And about the OAV, I love the tabs, yet are you aware that they new recommended dosage is 3-4 grams per deep box? they are finding that 1-2 grams are not doing a great job. And as far as the machines, do you know of any that work well that are under $300? Great video

Vaporization while cap brood is present has been shown to be quite ineffective since the majority of varroa is under the cappings of the brood. Effective OA vaporization occurs when the hive does not have capped brood. This was presented by Bob Binnie and KAMON Reynolds at a conference a few weeks ago….

agreed but that is why when we treat this time of year we treat every week for four weeks so we can treat all staged of the brood cycle.

If those tablets are 1 gram you should have put 4 in at a time, or did i hear it wrong?
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 18 сағат бұрын
You heard correctly. Actually I should have used 3 because I am running a deep/medium combo on most of the hives. The reason I used two is because all of the double stacked hives are 8 fram and not 10 so I am confident a 2 gram dose was enough.

I have the same vaporizer and I agree, a game changer. It makes it so easy and fast. When drilling holes in the rear I drill through the bottom board since I may do a few box reversals and use a golf tee in the hole after I am done. Using powder and 4 g per deep the temp drops to 395 to 405 and takes a little longer. Wish I had a 9 amp hour battery but my two 5 amp hour still gets it done. Have a good week.

I have something to say about SHBs, and how effective the HiveGates are in controlling them. Allow me to explain. Three years ago is when I first learned about the HiveGates. Invented by a guy names Kyle in New Zealand. I believe they were initially invented to both help with robbing, which they stop that in its tracks, and to help the hive control a perfect microclimate inside year round. But it was not until recently they discovered it stopped SHBs as well. Once placed on the hive, they need to extend outward from the hive about 3/4". This way bees only can enter by hovering and entering, or walking on top of them and crawling upside down and inside. Neither of which the SHBs are capable. So I did a test. I added Hive gates to all four of my hives. And two of them, i pushed the HiveGate completely level with the hive's entrance so bees could easily just walk it--yet could could the SHBs. Yet on the other two, I extended the HiveGates by 3/4" so only to let the bees which can hover enter or crawl upside down and enter and then I wait till hot summer days. Conclusion. With every inspection on the hives that had the HiveGates pushed in flush with the entrance, we would always open the lid to find 50 to 100 SHB.s corralled into a corner. The smashing began. Yet when opening the lids to the two hives where the HiveGates where extend outward from the entrance, zero SHBs were found--and that is with every inspection all year. ZERO!!! Wow, these HiveGates do it all. Stop Robbing in it's tracks, help the hives control a perfect microclimate YEAR ROUND, and stop the freaking SHB---those little bitc__es! I love these HiveGates

In theory that would be a great idea but in reality KZfaq wouldn't provide the impressions necessary for people to see it. One video would step on the other. Currently I am in KZfaq impressions jail because I answered one of their creator surveys honestly and talked about their censorship and my desire to have honest conversations with my viewers about current events in videos. Since I uploaded my last video where I talked about it my video impressions (number of times my thumbnail shows up on peoples home screen), has been cut from ~22k per video to ~3k leading to fewer views than usual. :-( . I tested 10 hives today and the numbers were up and down, my worst hive had 5 mites. I had plenty of apiguard left and decided to go ahead and use it. Each colony got 30 grams because its supposed to get warm again. Next week ill hit them with oav to do a clean-up. Ill hit them again later in the year. Ive got 1 queen in my whole outfit that just isnt cutting it. Im probably going to give her the smash-a-roni in a week or two if i dont start seeing some better brood patterns

I haven't tested at all I and am working on the assumption there are mites in the hives as I have always had mites in the hive. That way I don't have to sacrifice the bees in an alcohol wash. As for the queen, well.... Sometime the smash-a-roni has to happen. God speed to her :-)

I cheat when I mow my bee yard, I use the city's tractor with a cab and ac, fringe benefits of working for the city. I noticed on that first hive when you was in the brood box that it only had 9 frames, are you giving it a try. I know some people like it, I'm not a fan cause they build more bridge comb and they tend to build drone comb in between the frames too. Bout to pull all the rest of my supers off, goldenrod heads are starting to turn yellow and I want that in the brood boxes for winter. It's gonna be a little early this year.

I like your channel for the bees. I think I would enjoy your political views but would not like the comments they generate😢, so keep it light and happy about bees! And this might be a geographical term so take with grain of salt, but I think when you mentioned the “ locusts”, you meant cicadas - different bugs here in IL. Locusts are similar to humongous crickets and they eat, eat, eat; Cicadas are noisy because they r looking for a mate and they do not really eat in this last stage of life (eat underground all those years before they emerge) and yes, two Broods emerged this year at the same time.
