Piccolo wished for his and gohan put zero work into his. I would be willing to acknowledge that he trained off screen if it wasn’t directly contradicted in the movie with him struggling with piccolos gi. It’s a azzpull if I ever seen one.

While I would LOVE to write an entire masters thesis on why Piccolo’s transformation was well and truly earned, I will try to be brief. Simply put, DBS manga established well before the movie came out that the dragonballs were originally meant to celebrate brave Namekian warriors, and the wishes were supposed to be reserved specifically as rewards for said warriors who used them during times of suffering. Piccolo didn’t cheat into a power up. He only asked for his potential (his already present but latent power) to be unlocked. He made his wish with unselfish desire, because he only wanted the power to protect Earth against a new emerging evil, since he was the last and only available line of defense left. It was Piccolo’s bravery and sacrifices over the course of the entire franchise that proved his mettle as a bold Namekian warrior, and it is that journey that was what prompted Shenron to fulfill the true original purpose of the dragon balls, to give Piccolo his earned reward for years of service.

If you read the manga you’ll know it was coming and even in the show Gohan told Goku that he’s going to push pass SSJ and have a power that’s completely his own so it was foreshadowing a new transformation

Piccolo i think earned it. He has always kept up his training and he deserved a power up to be somewhat relevant again in the narrative. Gohan just really didnt ngl😅 its pointed out during the movie how little he has been training and keeping it up

Bro the universe 7 saiyans getting super Saiyan and super Saiyan 2 isn't an asspull, they were already primed to be able to go super Saiyan they just never knew that it was even a thing. Their stories which we never got to see got them too at least Battle of God's level in their base forms and that's where we met them.

Cant speak for piccolo, but gohan has ALWAYS been labeled as a non fighter even tho he actually is. Look back to kid gohan when he seen goku getting beaten by raditz he had a sudden burst of power stronger than gokus. He was able to damage frieza as a kid which goku had a very hard time doing until he went super saiyan. Fast forward again to cell vs gohan he surpassed goku yet again. Then by the time the buu saga came around gohan was weaker than goku because as its true to the story he isn’t a “fighter” but this is where beast gohan comes in. Gohan had his potential awakened by a kai and had become stronger than ss3 goku yet again no training. Fast forward to super and gohan is now weaker than goku again but with a little training hes already sparring against ssb goku. Now for the last fast forward we’re in superheroes. Gohan had his power awakened by a supreme kai. And all it took was the deep rage that always gave him power since the beginning of z to awaken his beast form which is obviously a transformation derived from the kais. A kai with white hair awakened and gohans power and his hair turns white while in beast form so common sense should tell its definetly a kai transformation. People forget when it came to gohan its never been about training its been stated multiple times thats its all in his anger. In short gohan powers are completely earned based off his character and I haven’t even started the video. Now piccolo i guess hes a namekian so wishing on the dragon balls for more powers is literally unearned but he gets a pass.

Sadly I have to disagree. Piccolo's form is an ass pull because it was established that the dragon balls can't make someone stronger if they are already stronger than the dragon. To unleash their potential is one thing, but to give him a whole ass transformation, elevating him to God level is a stretch. Secondly, both Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo are around the UI or UE levels of power, since it was established that the Gammas were equal to Blue Goku and Vegeta, as well as that Cell max was Broly level threat. Also we see Beast going against UI Goku in the Manga and he wasn't losing

Orange Piccolo DOES scale to an MUI Goku and SSB Vegeta, Just weaker versions of them from a previous manga only arc as Piccolo says Gamma 1 and 2 are equal to Goku and Vegeta from that previous manga arc Also Piccolo in Z does scale to the Saiyans alot of times post Raditz, In the Android Saga after fusing with Kami he is able to contend with Android 17 who is stronger then Android 18 who then beat Super Saiyan Vegeta earlier

0:05 Beast Gohan is a lot higher than Super Saiyan Blue. Cell Max is a little weaker than Broly at full power which took Goku and Vegeta fusing to take down. So Gohan is at the level of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego Goku and Vegeta because in the manga the events of Super Hero take place after the Granolah arc. Gohan’s giant hair in Beast is due to it being an evolution of his Ultimate form. Just to get an idea when the elder Kai gave Gohan his ultimate form he said he can make a cat into a tiger something like that.
