Garretson admitted towards the end of his life that he did see stuff, but was too scared to do anything. No shame in that. Most of us would have been frozen in fear too. I believe he saw Abigail being stabbed, as she would have been the closest to the guest house. I think he also admitted to seeing the door handle move.

@MoviesPopularities The LAPD did do acoustic testing I believe, and it was possible he would not have heard the shots from the guest house. Had he already put his headphones on? I don't think he became aware of the murders happening until Voytek ran out of the house yelling "Help me!" That when I think he peered out the window to see Tex beating him and then Folger being stabbed. I'm 99% positive that he was staring at the door when PK tried the doorknob. Can only imagine the terror of that moment for him.

William was a skinny teenage kid. When they hauled him he shook so much he could hardly stand up. He had emotional problems before the murders and he had hugh emotional problems after the murders, which he never received any help. It all lead to great problems later in life and an early death. It turns out William Garretson was just another victim of that weekend in HELL.

I read Patricia Krenwinkel went to the guesthouse and found the door locked. She left it alone and told Tex nobody was in there. I don't know how reliable that information is. The story of the caretaker is stunning.

Asleep, high, in a bedroom with a closed door and radio on doesn’t have to be loud to drown out noise. Million possibilities why he wouldn’t have heard anything.
@hogskins30436 ай бұрын
He made a great point about if Garretson was listening to loud music, the killers would have heard that and went to the guest house. I've never considered that before. I think Garretson heard what was going on and looked out the window to see the murders happening, and stayed put so he wouldn't get murdered also. That makes sense to me.

@valjackson9050 That wasn't what I read in the trial transcripts when Bugliosi was cross examining him. He just said the volume wasn't that high.

He said he heard screams but initially thought it was just a party I don't know but there was nothing he could have done if he had tried to go intervene they would have killed him too . The idea that he would be a suspect when the crime scene was so bloody and he had no blood on him and no blood in the guesthouse is ridiculous that the cops thought he would be able to kill all those people and clean up himself so quick when there was blood all over that crime scene
@steelpaine99328 ай бұрын
When you find a very much alive person among 5 slaughtered dead people, you question him, period, no matter what. Of course he's going to be suspected. Police let him go the next day, as they concluded the same assessment. I've also heard that he probably did hear something, but was too scared to do anything.

I think that Garretson heard gunshots and saw Folger being killed. He was just scared and hid. He may have locked his bedroom door, explaining why Pat Krenwinkle said that she didn't see anyone when she opened the door.

The reason the murders didn’t think there was anyone in that apartment is because they thought Steve parent was the resident there and he was leaving so they assumed there was nobody else inside. They most likely heard the music while confronting Parent and figured he’d just left it on in the apartment. We know they were not rocket scientists.

The girls had been at the house a few weeks before swimming in the pool they probably thought that parent was the same guy that they hung out with a week before. Remember parent said don't hurt me I won't tell anybody. He probably wasn't killed by the gate but chased leave the guest house

I believe that he had his stereo playing loud and also remember too that Sharon and Jay and all the other guest did not hear Tex Watsons 4 shots to Steven Parent , because the canyon valley supposedly carried the sounds away ! Also Patricia Krenwinkle said when she got to the guest house she knew it was wrong what she was doing and after turning the door handle left and said this is too much ! He I am sure always was haunted by the question why was I left alive and not killed ? He was one lucky man , what do you think ? Please let me know?

Didn’t LAPD make WG look at all of the victims, bodies etc., when the police “collared” him when they showed up and found him? That is enough to “spook” anyone for the remainder of their lives, being forced to look at that grisly scene! A just cause for serious PTSD!

@peterm18265 ай бұрын
There is no way. He could not have heard it. I security guard. Down in the canyon doing his rounds. Heard it and heard a woman screaming. A teacher at a private school. Having a camp out with kids heard it. He asked the school principal could he go look around and checkout the direction of the screaming. So bill saying he never heard anything is BS. A kid across the canyon. Could see the house. From a distance he was awakened by yelling like a violent argument. He looked out his window and from a distance saw shadows. And yelling coming from the house. Police interviewed him.
@danielreyes62254 ай бұрын
Very possible he didn’t hear it esp as he’s listening to records…sounds travels strangely thru canyons..this I can attest as a hillside resident over 20 years, …can’t hear next door neighbor who’s outside yet hear people taking a quarter mile across canyon

I would have done the same thing. He’s lucky they didn’t come inside the guest house. Poor guy. I hope he found some peace and happiness in his life. 😢
