The guy who made the video clearly didn't do his research. Eminem was on Radioactive for Throw it up along with skits. Yelawolf has been very vocal about how that project wasn't what he wanted, they even changed his logo for the album. Yelawolf in my opinion is the 2nd best shady signing besides 50. Love Story went gold, Yelawolf has the talent and a decent sized fan base. I don't think he ever wanted to be mainstream, he is what he is and he's true to his art.

I thinks authenticity is why he's not mainstream and that's okay. He's not a club song you passively listen to while drunk but either you feel his words and try to understand. Most people now don't think. F*** it, some don't even say words or just "fuck cops, bang girls, I have money, pop pills like me" type shit. There's real shit and a lot others spewing a word vomit with the same feeling beat. Sad state of the music industry...

Yela has a mind of his own and I respect that alot. He never want to make streight up Hip Hop and I feel to really feel his music you need to have an open mind for other typs of music as well. I remember when I saw him 2015 (Love Story Album) on concert the variety of people was incredible. If you look at all kind of musicions that mix up music Genres like that they never pop like the big Names cause it is not for everyone and not everyone is open minded like that. One of my favorite Bands Skindred who are making Reggae, Metal, Hip Hop and Punk mix. They not popping in any of those Genres, they always going to be underground because same her people are not open minded like that. For those who are not getting destructed by stupid things like the Race or some out of the box beats or instrumentation it's just amazing and a new vibe. I love music like that. It those not sound like an old movie reproduced over and over.

As a long term Yelawolf fan (around 13-14 years or so, I remember waiting in college for Radioactive to drop), I agree with the title. I remember watching Radioactive come out, seeing Eminem push it so hard on Facebook (which I don't even use anymore lol), and being let down at the success of it. I wouldn't say it was the dominant narrative, but that's just because blogs werent as negative then as they are now. Overall, it's undeniable that we have never seen Eminem promo another artist as hard ever again. I think it was his last time trying that.

Alabama-native for 43 years. Moved to Georgia 3 years ago. We absolutely grew up and that the flag didn't mean hate. Hell, I've traveled all over the country. The south is the least-racist place I've ever been in. I love everyone, and I'm proud of where I grew up. I love Pastor Troy embracing the flag. That's what we all need to do. Edit: I fully understand the connotation. I'm only suggesting that EVERYONE in the south embraces it and it goes away.
@dickiedanger
@dickiedanger 13 күн бұрын
I'm not disputing your experience, but I'm also 43, and have lived in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee for all my life, and my experience is that flag is regularly flown by racists. I'm sure there are people who aren't, but in all the places I've lived, it was basically 1:1 people with confederate flags, and people who openly said racist stuff because I look safe. I also know several black folks that are completely unbothered by it, so I can see where some people think it's a wash. Kind of ignores all the people who absolutely do see it as more than just a "rebel flag" though. I personally share no space with racists, but I'll give everyone a chance, regardless of a flag, to be who they are, but honestly I'm never surprised when it inevitably comes up. All that said, as a life long southerner, there's no actual "heritage" associated with that flag. It was a battle flag for like at most a hand full of companies in the civil war. A war that lasted 4 years. The show Friends has more heritage than anything in the confederacy. What I find sad about the flag, is that it means so little in terms of our history and culture, but people create their entire identity on it. There's a lot that we southerners can be proud of, that is actually a meaningful part of our culture. Poor men fighting to keep rich men's slaves just isn't on the list. Ya know.
@3xceIIent
@3xceIIent 13 күн бұрын
I can see why growing up in the south you might picture it as a pride symbol. After all it has been pushed as an agenda in the south basically since the end of the civil war. "The Lost Cause" trying to change why southerners were fighting the war, trying to paint veterans who were dieing in a better light. If it had stopped there it might have been fine. After all even with the Lost Cause narrative being a lie, a symbol people believe represents rebelliousness, good values or pride isn't a bad thing even if it came from a bad place. Ultimately the last 70 years have painted the flag in a very different light. It all started around 1950 when The Dixiecrats or the States’ Rights Democratic Party split from the Democratic party because of their pro civil rights policies. The Dixiecrats were pro segregation and anti civil rights. They adopted the flag as their own and used it intentionally as a racist symbol. It only spread from their by Citizens Councils and the Klu Klux Klan also adopting it with the sole intention of using it as a racist symbol. This process has repeated over and over. Some southern's claiming it is a symbol of pride while at the exact same time tons of groups are actively using it to intimidate and identify themselves as white supremacists. No matter how much you want to say it is a symbol of pride tons of people are using it otherwise. Some hiding in the open, pretending they don't believe the hatred, others proudly proclaiming their hatred and bigotry. There have been numerous polls showing how even in the south the majority are starting to associate the flag with a hate symbol. Obviously that is even higher among black people with it being around 90%. But if the majority, even in the south, believe it is a hate symbol then it is a hate symbol. No matter how honorable (or not in this case) the origin might be. The swastika had a perfectly benign meaning before the Nazi's. In fact it was that way for thousands of years. Much longer than it has been a hate symbol. But because it was co-opted by the Nazi's it is forever associated with them. No matter how much you specifically don't have any ill will when displaying the flag it has been used for hate for 70+ years and there is no changing that. If it's all about "southern values" perhaps it's time to claim a different symbol. One that isn't so intertwined with hate and bigotry throughout it's entire existence. Surely if there is no secondary meaning to displaying your flag then using another southern flag/symbol to display your pride is easy to do?

He embraces his demons, messes things up sometimes, but also does good stuff. No one can deny his talent, and that's why I love him and support him always! He's a king of the lowlifes, never chasing mainstream fame. He even has a song called "True to Yourself" which perfectly describes him. Whether you love him or hate him, he's always himself. That's what counts for me, and I'll always respect him for it. Thanks for covering him all this time, I always come back to you because of the respect you show him. Yela only issue I feel like is being too musically talented. If you don't hone a sound, you can't build a fan base, so if u flip sounds, those Trunk Music Listeners may not take to Love Story, and then when you get back in rap bag. They've moved on. I believe Yela is an artist who will be appreciated much more as tyme goes on. You'll find these bangers, Stereo is my favorite Yela Project, Conceptual Album, front to back. The Intro to that album explains what I'm Saying more or less, but his talents are many and kinda all over the place. BEST FRIENDS IS A BANGER, but is it if Em doesn't drop maybe one of his best verses ever on it? IDK he's def one of a kind!!! Also having 3 1/2 albums trying to reclaim Trunk Music, and Box Chevy 10, seems like he keeps trying to go back to a dry well. Love his music tho, gr8 artist. Super dope and creative, but I don't think anyone thinks he maximized the Shady/Aftermath Potential. Credit to him for doing what he wanted to, and Em for letting him. Em looks like genius but how many Tymes Dre or Paul or even a Royce like IDK bro, that line may be a little much. All IMHO of course. Failed? Meh, food for thought!🤷‍♂️🙏

I have a bunch of family in the south. The confederate flag doesn't represent slavery to them. I guess it represents the lives lost (less than 10% of confederate soldiers supported slavery) it has to do with taxes. The south was getting taxed like CRAZY compared to the north. They fought for freedom and independence. The winners get to tell the story and they made the stigma the war was over slavery when slavery had nothing to do with it at all

Bro squandered such an opportunity-but- if Yella is happy what’s he’s doing / where he’s at, that’s all that matters. I for one wish he would have taken the reigns / guidance as he could have been a beast.

Ngl, I'd rather listen to Yela than Eminem. Being someone who grew up hard in the South, I relate way more to Yela.

There is a (enter Star Wars pun) new hope for Shady/Aftermath now with Ez Mil. The more positive aspect of that one, is Ez already has a solid beginning and numbers behind him. A good fan base is established as well. All Ez has to do is keep doing him. He will be able to blow it out of the water on his own with just the financial backing of the label. No need to change anything else.

Is there a reason you don't link vids bro? just wondering cuz a few times I wanted to checkout the original vid but forgot the name of it or whatever. It would just make things easier and it's cool to credit creators. Just some constructive feedback. Keep up the good work otherwise.

Throw it up was crazy for me cuz I'm a huge Three Six fan and i always wanted to hear Eminem work with them so to hear Eminem Yela and Gangsta Boo was just insane. I loved Yela when he first came out. Trunk muzik was hard. I fuck with Yelawolf so i just can't feel like he is a failure

I remember hearing about him. I waited until the radioactive album came out. I got the CD. I listened to it, and I thought it was a good album. No every song. But I was thinking this isn’t a bad start. Then things just went silent and then he wasn’t on shady records no more. But it think it is true that there wasn’t much marketing for the album to try and get it pushed. But he’s still doing his thang and that’s good for him.

I watched a video years ago of a Yelawolf concert and it baffled me I'll explain why. He was on stage rapping i think Throw It Out which has an Eminem feature he does the song up to Ems part and starts hyping the crowd up to bring Eminem up on stage the instrumental kicks up and then Yelawolf just says "Psych" and the crowd turned on him. I've never understood why he did that and ive felt off about him for other reasons too. This video just solidified it. He should be way more popular but he acts like he doesn't want it
