Ren's way with words, imagery and the way he weaves so many different themes together and subtly nods in multiple directions is unlike any artist I've encountered.
Join me in my first time experience with Ren's new single, "Murderer" and see if you agree with me in the hidden genius behind the contrast he's creating in these lyrics!

Yeah, I always hated rappers that don't give a shit about the pitches. If you're tone deaf, make percussion-only backing tracks. Rappers who can't be bothered to learn to sing, just seem lazy. Though I think sometimes, ignoring the key makes it easier to hear the lyrics and stops the voice falling into the mix. But when it's all you can do, it all just sounds the same. And it usually seems to be the "Hood, bitches, driveby" rappers who can't rap on pitch. "Out of tune I-lived-in-a-rough-area-but-now-I-drive-a-hideous-gold-humvee-and-date-models" seems to be an actual genre. I just can't bring myself to care about your damn financial status!

Ren is a total chameleon musically, vocally, and as an actor, effortlessly taking on the characters that he is portraying. Hi Ren is the prime example of being able to switch vocally, musically and behaviourally between different characters, and not faltering even once. I think he said somewhere that the character in this one is an extension of Screech - it very much feels like this is who Screech would have grown into ... It is perhaps ironic that, simultaneously, we love him for his authenticity as a person and an artist, but also love him for his ability to inhabit a fictional character

You are the first person i've heard say Chris that Ren is playing a Character in this and other Video's you picked up on it right away, too many Reactors seem to Judge Ren by his more serious stuff and think everything has a hidden deeper meaning, sometimes Ren is just having Fun and creating catchy Music just because he can. This is obviously not the Person he is and it's not to be taken Literally it's just a Fun Tune.

Yes!! Sometimes reactors try to read too much into things. This is part of thr beauty of art - yiu can be someone else, anyone and anything you want to. A bunch of reactors that I watched initially were like "oh Murderer ok he's metaphorically murdering something" and then when he says he's talking literal murder not metaphors they're like "ummm..." and then there's like an awkward moment 😅 he did have to point out to one reactor that not everything has any intended meaning behind it.

I think we're seeing a chapter of something that, after other songs, will be revealed to be a multi-song plot line, like the trilogy. My guess is that this leads into the plot line of Money Game part 1. Ren saying that the guy who gets kidnapped here is the same guy (actor) as the guy who shows up as the prisoner at the beginning of Animal Flow may mean Animal Flow is a part of it, too. I mean, if my wild guess turns out to be right (that this will be a chapter in a multi-song plot line). Since Ren's getting ready to release Money Game part 3 this fall, we may get some confirmation of that soon(-ish), if my wild guess that Money Game 1 is part of this "universe" is right.

As one of the millions of Ren fans who fall in the "I don't normally dig rap" category, I have a couple of things to say about him and his rapping: 1) his diction/enunciation is consistently exceptional. like next level insanely good. He makes sure that you don't need a lyric sheet to figure out most if not all of what he is spitting, and that instantly makes it all so much more accessible. 2) He really blurs the line between rapping and singing more than any artist I have come across. Finally, and unrelated to the above: huge props to #LukeFlagg for some exceptional camera work!

There's a moment of scratching in the mix at one point while they're in the car. I watched another reactor (Stumpy) who commented that Ren's entire rap delivery in this song (Stumpy was pretty new to Ren at the time so he wouldn't have known how often it shows up in Ren's rapping) incorporates "scratching" in the vocals - by which he meant the way Ren uses exaggerated nasal/head voice tones, often in rapid alternation with dropping to a lower chest voice. I think of that every time I listen to this song now (and many of his other songs too). edit: argh, I Just went back to the Stumpy reaction to remember exactly how he put it... and it's not Stumpy who said it. I can't think of which reactor it was then.... sigh, I wanted to give the person credit.

This song comes off as a statement, like he knows he's putting out a large variety of styles but doesn't want you to forget he can throw down some aggressive bars when needed. Really excited to see where he takes this on the rest of the album. I saw a clip of him a while back, might still be online, where he took a section of a song he was working on and kept increasing the BPM of the backing track and then he'd try to match it by reciting the lyrics over the new faster beat. It was insane how fast he could get through lyrically complicated sections, it seems like this lets him do a lot more of the stylistic flourishes when he throttles it down to "normal" speed.

Ren knows that this is entertainment. yes he has had vids with extreme personal connections, but not all of what he does can be set to an expectation that everything else he does is going to connect like that as well. do not combine his message of gratitude and success with any of his songs. keep Ren Gill separate from Ren during a performance. that would be akin to being terrified of Samuel Jackson because of pulp fiction. Quentin Tarantino style, no lullaby. he loves exploring the dark side. I loved Stephen king books and horror movies, I still enjoy exploring the darkness. doesn't change my character. people love horror because it's a way to experience the fear and shock without the consequences of reality. I can't wait till Ren can be in charge of his own show, wether on TV or movies...hopefully there is a studio exec out there smart enough to let him have the reigns completely. he has already proven he has mastered high quality on no $ production budget..... I look forward to anything and everything this young man will create, enthusiastically.

The only song that was written & filmed this year was For Joe (and the 2nd part of Su!cide) I think it was just a coincidence that Murderer and 1M video came at roughly the same time

Idk how much you read the comments (especially on older videos) 😂 but... I Absolutely love ren and your reactions are brilliant mate...I show them to my daughter who is only 15 but sings pretty well imo, because I want her to see what you see in the hope it helps her develop her vocals (videos on my channel btw) Anyhoo...since you love ren and his sing rap style...I thought I'd ask you if anyone has ever recommended dappys music to you before? His beautiful me acoustic where he plays piano sings and raps is absolutely amazing imo...hope u check it out even if you don't react to it as his voice is epic 😎 🙏🥰

great reaction. Reconciling the contradiction between the humble, grateful Ren who just reached 1M subs and the 'murderer' is interesting. Of course, for me, it helps to keep in mind that the song was done about a year ago. Also, we can all be glad that he prepared ahead of time to have music to release while he's in Canada for treatment.

You said "expanded range of expression" ... someone else said layers of an onion ... I couldn't agree more. It's not just the flow of several bars(?) ... it's also the transitions in and out of a new tempo (cadence?).

"Yes, I came to rock man, drop it like it's hot, Fam" Sounds like record scratching. It's the highlight of the song for me, for some reason. I haven't heard anyone bring it up in any reaction video. Am I just too easily amused?

The RAP community has embraced Ren which is most unusual. You have to earn your stripes and it's a battle to the top, one not easily achieved. Dissing and killing it on the scene is all part of the game like his songs, The Hunger, and Genisus.

MURDERER title & hook is a tribute to Barrington Levy’s MURDERER - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9yql9p3u6q9Zqc.html If you’re wondering, this is not a one take. Somewhere on Joe E Sparks (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qMChgaWSrrnFiIU.html) comments, Luke Flagg said this: so we actually had to hide a cut going in and out of the car because it was just me on camera and also shooting in a moving car with really specific camera movements and focus..I didn't know anyone who could do it the way I wanted, so I just had to end the first shot be leaning as far into the car as I could with the camera. Then cut and open the door, sit in the car. Then hold camera out of the car window as far as I can and record as I bring it in again, starting the next shot. Hardest thing was to 99% match the overlapping shots in that moment it goes through the window: angle, composition, etc. So there's a freeze frame where the inside of the car is a different shot to the outside of the car. BLOOPER ALERT: Did you notice at (9:52) the last car on the right is a dark colored car, then after the camera comes out the window there is a white car there. 5:44: Scene from LOSING IT

I always love watching your reaction to REN. Ten is fun in this video, I say that when he has just kidnapped a man and put him in the boot of a car. He is showing his duality, his real side and his characters. 😂😂😂
