The last line has me so shook. Never read the book, but the line “did you fall, or did you let go?” Did he attempt suicide? Did he want attention? Was it a metaphor? Edit: please stop responding to this. It’s been over a year now...

“Did you fall? ... or did you let go?” The reason I want to perform in Dear Evan Hansen, is because of how much I can personally relate to Evan. I know what it’s like to feel alone, unwanted, like life isn’t worth it, like today won’t be a good day, I understand it all! But even when the dark comes crashing through, and you need a friend to carry you, and when you’re broken on the ground, you will be found. 😌

I can never forget how I felt and how I cried when I heard that line for the first time. It just changed everything about the first half of the musical, especially “for forever”: “I’m on the ground. My arm goes numb. I look around and I see him come to get me”. Evan really did tell this lie not only to the Murphys but to himself, he wasn’t just giving himself a friend with this story, he was trying to overwrite his suicide attempt.

One of the best emotionally charged scenes ever. My heart physically hurt when Connor was telling Evan how he would lose everything and everyone if he told them the truth.

I know this animatic was a whole year ago, but I relate to Evan so much in this scene. You can tell his anxiety is showing with Connor repeatedly saying "they'll hate you" because he knows what is going to happen if he tells the truth, but he doesn't want to experience it so he keeps denying and lying to himself that everything will be okay. I hope this makes sense. Because I do this all the time.

theory what if connor actually isn’t just evan’s imagination, and it’s actually connor’s spirit, and he just thinks it’s his imagination and the reason connor came to him is because he did wanna be his friend when he was alive, he was waving back but evan didn’t see. he also wants to protect his sister and make evan do the right thing.

Evan didn't do it on purpose , Connors mother lied to herself and Evan was unable to say anything. They looped Evan into a lie they where telling themselves and he just got caught up with the unusual feeling of finally being loved,

This gives me the chills.... But... did he actually let go, did he?
