The obvious reason would seem that it provides more rigidity to the box bottom.

I can see why.....i had a box that the bottom actually warped upwards toward the interior of the box. Thus when you interlock with another box you have to push down on the inside of the box to get the middle cleats to lock into the other box top. Some guys couldn't get the boxes to un latch from each other. They sent me a new box. I just filled old one with a bunch of heavy metal and left it in corner of garage on floor to flatten it out maybe. Its been a year i should check on it to see if it worked.

The the cover on rolling box I looked at in the store the other day opens smooth vs my old version has a stiff click to keep it open

I have four of the older version from 2018-2019 but I didn't get anymore since 2019, can one just trim off the bottom of the divider on a table saw to fit the current version?

Does it fit better on the rolling tool box ??? Cause mine is quite a struggle to pull off of it !

That's a weird change, I don't see how that improves anything that would be noticeable. In EU they're trying to have cross-platform batteries in NA they can't even make things universal within their own company.
