I actually don’t think it’s the judge’s fault. Cruz is asking the complete wrong question. He usually does well in these judicial hearings, but he comes across as kinda dense in this one tbh. He shouldn’t be asking about the candidates intent regarding a bill passed by his (at-the-time) boss. He should be asking if he personally supported the bill then ask if, when he supported the bill, he was was aware of the effect it would have.

As a person who drafted the bill he can speak as to its intent, therefore he would know if the law was being applied based on its intent or being manipulated to suit their needs. Being able to identify this is a key job of a judge. The fact that he couldn't even answer what the intent was of his own bill is a massive red flag. How can we have judges making decisions about the application of laws when they can't even make a determination on their own laws?
