Diddy sees the dollar signs around that talent and makes them sign contracts that gives THEM much more money than Foot Locker but way LESS than what their talent is worth. But people wanna stop working at Foot Locker so bad, and wanna be famous so bad, that they SIGN the contracts without lawyers (that they can’t afford on a Foot Locker salary). These people then become talented artists, perform, go on tour, get used to having SOME money….and now that they have SOME money, they realize it’s hard to keep MAKING that kinda “some money” cus they’re not being paid what they’re worth. So now they go BACK to contract and read that for every dollar they make, they get 10c, Diddy gets 50c and the label gets 40c and NOW they wanna cry and call Diddy a liar. I can confirm that my clients attorney was reviewing a deal for one of her other clients back in 2014 who was going to sign to diddy as a writer/ artist with an ep deal. She told me it was by far the worst contract she had ever seen and told the artist they'd be signing their entire career away for a low 6 figure advance and the deal didn't even really guarantee any success being released or any payments. She countered and they weren't even willing to change much. She said she had never recveived a contract that blatantly exploitative in her 17 years as a ent attorney.
