I worked reopening the Canal back in the 80s at Ripon. Loved the Job .. now own a narrow boat up in the area .. home is where the heart in .. Ripon born and bred

Aaah... Ripon Canal! I always make sure I take some time out for a walk along the canal when I'm in Ripon, which is usually once a year when visiting family in Ripon and Littlethorpe. Home away from home for me.

Whilst waiting for a lock to fill (and watching your video) I laughed out loud when I saw the quick step to pub of the week. It was so loud, people in other boats looked up at me. I should have said, it's ok, I'm watching Robbie Cumming! Great video as usual.

Nice to see a bit of the Ripon canal. It's the nearest canal to me as I live in the former steel town of Consett, 12 miles North West of Durham, 60 miles from Ripon. I visited the Ripon canal and marina last year in February, it was my first visit to a canal. I walked along the towpath for a while and recognised it in your video. A couple of weeks ago a friend invited me to join him on his canal boat for a few days. He has a mooring on the Shropshire Union just north of Brewood. We spent 5 days cruising up through Weaton Aston, Gnosall, and Norbury Junction to Market Drayton and back down. I got to be pilot for half the journey and took care of the locks. Great little unplanned free holiday. :-)

This was a great episode to watch as I have a friend who lives in Ripon. I was half expecting to see her in The One Eyed Rat as that is her favorite Pub. Looking around on Google Earth and your video, to me Ripon looks like a clean proper little British town with everything being centered around the market square. Neat, how the channel ends and it is a short walk to the square.

I had a 45ft 1976 handcock and lane trad narrow boat. From 2007-09. loved the life but just the boat was a nightmare..

Hi Robbie, I've enjoyed this, i know Ripon a bit from long ago. I wonder if you can take the time to suggest a good make of acoustic guitar. i'm now retired and although only ever a beginner would fancy having one by me. Bless you for giving so many people company and enjoyable vlogs.

I am going to go to Rippon one day on my boat. Have you been on the Caldon Canal in Staffordshire? I can recommend it, it's beautiful. There's a great little friendly pub in Consall Forge, set deep in a remote valley.

Actually on top off that probably know all the staff still in the Jolly Fryer (if least one of them still works there that is) was a person who worked for the bus company who used to take me to school in Bedale at the time haha, completely forgotten her name annoyingly, a while back (probably before 2005) meeting them all in the One Eyed Rat least a decade after was quite eventful lol.

Great session up the Ripon arm, shame you cant get further north. Not sure the canal would be great for newbys when there is a fishing match on it , plenty of pegs along its length. Would love the hoodie , put us in the draw plz.

Hey Robbie, Great part of the Country.. What is the length restrictions on those Ripon & Boroughbridge Locks? I heard about 58' but Google Earth looks more like 60' with the measuring tool. Any idea? Cheers.

Hey Robbie, great vlog series! Watched your latest vlog after it popped up on my feed and now enjoying working my way through from the beginning! With the 48 hrs moorings does it work the same as car parking? i.e. no return within whatever time period or can you can you go away for a day then come back to the same spot for another 48hrs? Are there canal traffic wardens that keep an eye on who's morning etc? Have watched loads of boat tubers and always wondered about that.....cheers dude

Awesome - good question and in places like London it certainly does seem like that but in some other areas it can be a lot more relaxed and you can stay for ages wait er as long as you notify the CRT of your legitimate reasons for overstaying of course 🤐
