12:59, Hannah, the reason why McClaine hates being trapped in tunnels is told in the graphc novel by Boom Comics "Die Hard, year one"(2011) -It's happened to him twice--once in Vietnam while escaping an enemy patrol, and in New York while still a street cop who just happens to be guarding the Queen Of England when terrorists come to kill her...( His heroism that day earned him his detective badge, and a cute businesswoman's phone number named Holly.)

@@avalonentertainment2183 Here's one, the script of Die Hard with a Vengeance is a reworked script of a movie called Simon Says that was going to be made by Dimension Films. In the end they didn't make it and they sold the script to 20th Century Fox. Why wasn't Simon Says made? Well the guy who was going to be the main actor was killed on set while making a movie before that, his name was Brandon Lee.

The director of this, John Mctiernan, also directed Predator and Last Action Hero. This kick started Bruce Willis' career as an action star. Other notable movies released the same year as this include Twins, Red Heat, Rambo III and Bloodsport. The actor playing Al Powell was given the lead role in Family Matters because of his role in this. Gremlins is another great Christmas movie to watch

The novel this movie is based on is a sequel. The first novel was adapted as a movie called "The Detective" and it starred Frank Sinatra. Due to the original contract, they had to offer the John McClain role to Sinatra first. Sinatra was in his 70's by this time and declined.

In my Top 10 list of best movies ever! ♥︎ The movie came out in August 1988. I saw it when I was in broadcasting school for the army and I was still restricted to engaging in only on-post activities and figured seeing a movie at the on-post theatre just for the heck of it was way better than sitting bored in my barracks having nothing more interesting to do than shine my shoes... I didn't know who Bruce Willis was or what the movie was about. Hell, I just wanted to kill time at the post theatre and it had the best poster. This movie was great out of the gate and it just kept getting better and better. By the time the movie had ended, the whole audience was cheering and we were all well into Christmas spirit. Worth every minute! Still one of the best Christmas movies ever! Best to you-

Good reaction to an awesome classic. Btw, around the 17:05 minute mark when one of you said that John McLaine should tell the officer on the walkie-talkie that he was aware that the bad guys are listening ---- actually that was of of the very first thing that John McLaine told the officer before he said a word. Earlier in that conversation, John literally told the officer that "we're on a party line", which was another way of saying that the bad guys can hear this conversation over their radios as well.

I personally love Die Hard 4.0 as well. While it lacks the "gene se qua" of the Die Hard movies, it's a solid entertainer with plenty of memorable, exciting action sequences and re-watch-worthy. Plus, Willis actually seemed to give a shit about the movie and didn't phone it in, like in many later movies (Looper being an exception).

For me the best part is always the look of genuine surprise on Hans’ face when he starts to fall. To get the shot the director rigged up a wire to drop the actor about 12 feet onto a pad (they green screen the background later) and told him they’d count 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 -5 and then drop him….but he told the riggers to drop him on 1.

I absolute love your reactions to my favorite films. You three are so hilarious and beautiful. Having Boo the cat there is an extra added bonus. It’s amazing to think that this was Alan Rickman’s first major studio role. Before this he was a veteran London stage actor who was unknown to American audiences, and he gives an absolutely iconic performance as Hans Gruber who is still considered one of the greatest villains in cinema. While it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing that role, Sam Neill who is best remembered for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films was initially considered for the role of Hans Gruber. Before Die Hard, Bruce Willis was best remembered for comedies and dramas such as Blind Date and ABC’s Moonlighting. Willis truly made John McClane an iconic anti-hero. Others actors who were initially considered for the role were Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Burt Reynolds, and Richard Gere. For Hans Gruber’s climatic death scene, Alan Rickman was rigged to be dropped backwards onto a blue crash mat on the count of three. The stunt coordinator instead devised a plan to have Rickman dropped on the one count in order to provoke the genuine reaction of shock you see his face in the film.

The thing that makes this movie unique is that McClane wasn't the typical 80's action hero. He wasn't a super buff soldier in the jungle like Stallone's Rambo or an unstoppable machine from the future like Arnie's Terminator, he was just a regular New York cop visiting his estranged wife. And it worked perfectly! Also the joke the guy makes to Nakatomi when we first meet him("the nukes didn't work out so we gave you a tape deck") is extremely messed up when you realize what it was referring to. I didn't realize it before, but that one guy does look ALOT like Dahmer, I can't unsee that now lol. This was Alan Rickman's first role, and it kicked off an amazing career filled with roles that showed off his talent. From Dogma and Galaxy Quest to Love Actually and Harry Potter, he was incredibly talented. RIP Alan Rickman.

Fun fact: The producers were contractually obliged to offer Bruce Willis' role to Frank Sinatra first. Frank appeared in a 1968 movie called "The Detective" and "Die Hard" is a very loose adaption of the sequel book "Nothing Lasts Forever". He sensibly declined as he was already in his 70s when the role came up and gave Bruce his break into movies.

Director John McTiernan's next film after Predator (1987) and loosely based on the Roderick Thorp novel, "Nothing Lasts Forever" (1979). A gamechanger of the action genre for it's time. Many copycats were made. Some were good and some weren't. Bruce Willis' 3rd film role and he became the highest paid film actor of the time ($5 mil). This was after he released an album called "The Return of Bruno" and finishing his 5-season run on the TV series, "Moonlighting". Willis as McClane was known as America's unluckiest cop. But as an flawed and relatable character, it made him beloved as an action hero. The late, Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) in his first feature film redefined onscreen villains. He is one of several actors in the film who've passed away. It is a true summer blockbuster. As it's only set during Christmas, it's only been seen as an Christmas film. Of the 4 sequels, parts 2, 3 and 4 are pretty good. The 5th and final one is not seen as an good finale. Willis' retirement from acting in early 2022 after being diagnosed with Aphasia was very unexpected. His career reads over 100 roles, films and television. As Detective John McClane, he'll never be forgotten. 35 years later, it's still Yippee-ki-yay motherf******.

They took a risk casting Bruce Willis as John McClane cause he hadn’t done any action work before. He was tv drama actor. Alan Rickman almost turned down the role. This was his first film and he wasn’t too happy about it being a villain role. The crew had many tank tops in different stages on hand for Willis. 12:55 the fall was a mistake by the stuntman he was supposed to grab the first vent but missed so they kept it in and just worked it together. 34:09 the look on Rickman’s face is real. They told him they were dropping him on three and they decided to do it early to catch him off guard.

@@RuntotheMovies That's okay. We all speak American here I love that you did "Excalibur" - my favourite film. John Boorman did an even more spaced out film (starring Sean Connery) called "Zardoz" It's so out there that in several documentaries I've seen on Connery they ALL fail to mention it. Like he was embarrassed

"... and enough explosives to orbit Arnold Schwarzenegger." FUN FACT: Arnold was one of the first actors who was offered the role of John McClane but turned it down for "Twins". You can almost have a drinking game for this movie's in-jokes.

after this movie came out, every time there was a movie with a hero fighting terrorists, people just called whatever the movie was, Die Hard on a plane or Die Hard on a Ship

In the novel the protagonist is way older and he is there to meet his daughter in an american oil company high rise. His daughter sadly dies and it was real terrorists and not fake terrorists. This is based on the second book (Nothing lasts forever) and they originally planed to use the same actor as they use in the movie based on the first book (The Detective), Frank Sinatra.

Loved this reaction! Die Hard is one of the reasons why Bruce Willis is THE MAN. Awesome Actor who always gives his best no matter what film he's in. You should watch "The Whole Nine Yards" from 2000. Wonderful film with a fun story!

1. Karl/Alexander Godunov😇 also played in "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and "Witness" with non-Indiana/Solo Harrison Ford. He had a very interesting story. 2. Robinson/Paul Gleason 😇 seems to always play buttheads. I.e. "Trading Places" and "The Breakfast Club". 3. John will have a place to stay tonight after all.😍😋😈 3. Another fun Willis movie that have similar events is "The Last Boy Scout". They drop more F-bombs that you can shake a stick at. Including a little girl. 4. Christmas movie? YES. It takes place at a Christmas party. 5. Missing you Bruce.☹

Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. 2 of my favorite action franchises. To be honest though I'm more of a Mel Gibson fan girl. I'll go with the screenwriter and my opinion. It's a Christmas movie.

Toy and Tori both have crushes on Bruce Willis. How can they never have seen Die Hard until recently? This is a classic action movie. I did have a crush on him, last summer. When I rewatched this. It's so good! It'll always be my favorite out of the Die Hard Franchise. I have a huge crush on Russell Crowe, now! If you ladies ever want to watch a few of his movies and share your reactions! I'm there! BTW! Loved Toy and Tori's reactions! LOL! Lots of gasping and anxiety. I've gasped over plenty of movies as well.

Great movie. It was Alan Rickman Rip breakout role. You should watch the sequel which is even more a Christmas movie . Another great underrated action Christmas movie you should see is Reindeer games 2000 with Ben Affleck. no one react to it yet. I would also highly recommend the ultimate Christmas movie It's A Wonderful Life. Fyi Bruce Willes at the time of that the movie came out was known a comedic Tv star with his hit show Moonlighting no body believe he could be an action star. He had a funny romantic movie that flop before this movie with Kim Bassinger called Blind Date.
