I’d die to get a James Bond car

I have an identical story with one difference, the first day, but perhaps not the first ejection, he went straight into the furnace vent. The bad guy got incinerated. I don’t remember that mine had a spare. Perhaps I threw away the box and never knew. After watching this video I immediately went to the comments and of course I wasn’t the only one.

It's true that I don't want; the red progress bar to be erased, from all of the toy car restoration videos I've already listened and watched. If they get erased; the educational videos brings on confusion, to what I've already listened and watched. Thus I become upset so easily. 😡 😞

Connery looked a bit like Hitler on steroids in 'You Only Live Twice'-bad toupee plus Jerry Lewis white socks! Corgi also did the Toyota from that movie with missiles firing out the back. Corgi also did the Batmobile, Black Beauty and other Bond vehicles, my favourite being the Moon-Buggy from 'Diamonds are Forever'.

@@JohnD640 As a 63 year old, I can say I still have my model of the Corgi Batmobile from 1967. Even has the price tag on the box. 13/6d old UK currency About £0.65. It was even worse that the James Bond Aston Martin for loosing bits. The 3 tube rocket launcher on the back came with 12 "rockets" (obviously they knew these would be lost), not sure but I think I have 3 left. Also had this James Bond DB5 when I was younger but sold off all bar the Batmobile a number of years ago. Incidently the story is that Corgi had this model ready to be released at the same time as the film and as the film was named Goldfinger, the corgi designers had assumed the car would be gold. Must have been some concerns when the film was released and the car was silver. Corgi had already released the gold edition but subsequent releases were in silver.

That might be the later, larger scale silver model.

ad that version in silver, also a kit by dinky, in gold, where you fitted red plastic hub spinners, revolving plates, etc, and it came as a kit in a box, as if you were on the assembly line and had to build it. collect tv cars and movie cars so found this interesting...thanks..

I used to own one of these James Bond cars. Lost the little man in the ejector seat within hours of getting the car. Nice to see the car again.

I also had one of these, (actually two, later) when I was a kid in England. Circa 1966? Parents bought for me at a show which featured the actual car! Can't remember where. Dad's Kodachrome slides along with a bunch of others may sadly be lost. May still have both cars. Not in great shape though. Well played with.

chocochipthepug 1 Corgi made a larger model of the DB5 years later, with more features. Rotating license plate and rear wheel center "spinners" that pulled out to inflict damage on the bad guy's car.

Erik Simca I'd love to see him do some larger ones too. He is so skilled I don't think it would hurt the character of the channel to do one every now and then. I have several 1:18 classic Buragos that I want to repair/restore, it's what got me into doing diecast restorations of all scales. I would live to see what he does with the Burago 1:18 scale 1961 Jaguar E-type cabriolet. Lots of them out there that could use a restoration and added detailing.

The gold ones came later and had less detail. For example the silver had revolving front number plate and if my aging memory serves, little plastic things pull out of the wheels that ripped the side of the Mustang out in the film.

The gold one's were first, re issued and updated later as silver with more gadgets.

@@tardisenvironmental8426 Actually the gold came first. Corgi got the colour wrong, thinking that the car would be gold as the film was Goldfinger. The cars were produced early for release at the same time as the film. I had one of the first ones that our local toy shop got in stock

I’ve got 2 in silver...a first release that’s in pretty poor shape and a later ‘70’s re-release in great shape (with the little man).

Over the years Corgi has issued them in both silver and gold colours. The Goldfinger 30th and 50th anniversary editions were done in gold.

It's because they wanted it different.

Have just posted elsewhere on the page with my own memories on this car. I had the silver one, but @SvenTviking it wasn't the larger version with the spinning licence plate, it was this scale version. It was from a later re-release (circa 1980-ish), the hijacker passenger (two provided) came in plain blue plastic by that time too, presumably to cut production costs. I've always understood from Bond aficionados that earlier releases of the toy were on gold were to tie in to the 'gold' theme of Goldfinger, where the car made it's first appearance and after which the first release came.

no not really, they did make some gold plated collectors editions, you see them from time to time NIB at antique auctions here in the uk, but its the first run sixties version thats worth the most. corgi re-released these in both gold and silver in the early eighties as a line of 007 cars, which are the ones you see in auctions not the original.

alex clark I was wondering that, I guess in a custom job it's fine but for a faithful restoration I would be surprised if that's done It was after all how it originally came from the factory and if i was wanting to return a car to as close to original as possible I would leave them.

clearly a reply from a illiterate person, and does not not change the fact that the item has not been "restored" as was the claim, in fact if you have any knowledge re the restoration of this type of item you would be aware that any value in may have had has been rendered to nothing other than spare parts

I know the meaning of custom and I know the meaning of restoration, the two are not compatable

pijnto purists are kind if irrational , although my full size real 41 Plmouth is factory perfect.

Any restoration would involve stripping and repainting. So, the "as original" value would be lost. However, the value of the repaint job is added. Value is not objective as many seem to think, but is the amount a willing buyer would pay to a willing seller.
