You said 7 & 8 is the input to the exciter stator and this supply is obtained from the output of the Alternator. My question is: Before the alternator can get an output, it must have worked to produce voltage. How did the initial excitation occur for the alternator to produce so as to supply terminal 7&8 with AC input. Thanks

Yes, I know residual magnetism. But residual magnetism will only be found on a coil that has already being magnetized in one way initially. So far, the exciter stator winding is a coil of wire and not a permanent magnet. Residual magnetism will be present in the coil only if it has been previously magnetized. The question now is how does that initial magnetization occur? From which supply?
