For sealing the gaps you can use the paper tape. You stick it on the sides of the cut. Not right on the line of the cut, but leaving a small distance from the cut. Then you put a sealant, smear it (the excesses of sealant will go on the tape), and remove the tape right away. Thus you'll push the sealant deeper and have a really nice, smooth line. We were doing it to seal different gaps on the aircraft.

Caulking the saw cuts; I taped both sides with duct tape, pinched the nozzle flat so it would sit in the seam , caulked it in and sprayed the caulk off with soapy water then scraped it off with a putty knife. Spray it again and pull up the tape and tool it if needed. I used poly urethane in the garage and self leveling in the driveway.

You realize oil is going to leave a stain on bare concrete every place you spill some and there's absolutely no good way to remove it. I've tried all kinds of ways. One thing I did learn is don't hold the pressure washer on it too close because you still won't remove the stain, you'll just damage the finish on the concrete.

I know you said you were going to do sprayfoam in the ceiling but I hope you are also doing it on the walls, especially since they didn't tape the house wrap when they put it on. The sprayfoam will provide a more ridged structure and seal up any air leaks. Even if you just do 1 inch thick and then do the rest in something else. either way, looking awesome.

Your kind of blew my mind that they didn't tape the seams of the house wrap. Even the companies who make the house wrap will tell you it's not even worth putting it on if you're not going to tape the seams
@icarus_flying1994
@icarus_flying1994 Жыл бұрын
@@masterbates7016 I would still say it is worth it, creates a huge amount of wind block. They use to put tar paper on without taping back in the day, and the difference between that and no tarpaper would always be pretty big. But yes, huge draft spot without that taping and fiberglass's ability to insulate dramatically drops when it isn't sealed on both sides.

Gun the sealant into approx 10 metre lights,run the tool down the joint have clean container to hand and put the excess in to it,repeat process approximately 20 more metres then go back to the fist joint and remove tape. Matt when we do our joints we blast them out with a saw first to get all the debris out then vacuum up the dust (we use the skill saw set up for soft cutting with the roller plate and extended handle) then we roll backer rod into the joint with roller tool that you can adjust the depth on we do 3/8”. That way whatever material your using (we use vulkem) doesn’t get wasted in massive voids and takes far less to do a slab.

I used to do a lot of commercial automated gate installations that would require us to cut in a vehicle detection loop for safety and to trigger it to open when you pull up to the inside of the gate. Was basically a 1 inch deep saw cut in the concrete or asphalt shaped like a rectangle that we would wrap some silicone wire in a loop around several times. Then we would use the Sika Self Leveling sealant in either grey or black to seal over the top of it. Worked out pretty good and allowed for some tool work before it set up hard in order to minimize wasted material. But if you got it anywhere other then where you wanted it, especially your cloths, it was there forever.

I really like seeing the WWM on chairs in the porch pour. The way they lifted the header for the garage wall was smart, too. Ordinarily, I like to spec a LWT "loft" space over tracked OHD like that. Would be a pain in your case, probably needing 410 series TJI. Note that you need to plan your lighting scheme around having the doors open, which block roof-mounted fixtures (hence making a cubby over them) Still, cool to see.

My first real job back in 83 was on civils building concrete foot bridges in my home town. I was also a skate punk, soon as the job was finished and open I skated those bridges. Looking at your fantastic shop I would have skated it soon as the muck was dry, it looks so smooth but an old skate board would have eased the jointing job you could have sat and squeezed with some tunes blasting. Cheers

Hey Matt I just got my new shop built this week too! It's not anywhere near as big as yours (25x30)but it's serving as my dream shop as well. I'm mostly a wood worker but I dabble in automotive and metal machining as well. I'm hoping we have as much fun in our respective shops as it's looking like we will. I enjoy your show and have been watching since you dug Christine out of the bushes. Keep up the good work! Dave

Congrats to you and your wife with this big step! What an achievement! This would take a lifetime for normal mortal people to get this far, you get this done so much quicker. It's unbelievable!

Matt: watching your dream come true is giving me such inner desire to accomplish, and I’m 64 years old!!!! I know most would say, ‘your time is up’ but I DON’T THINK SO!!! If you can IMAGINE IT, THEN IT CAN HAPPEN!!!!

This has probably been said, but those doors will preclude the bridge crane travel unless it mounts under them. It may be worth putting more track and panel is so that when open the door panels are higher so more lift can be had from the crane. Otherwise the crane either can't go to the end of the shop or crane lift high may be limited for truck unloading.

Fantastic, Matt!!! We've been waiting for this update! This will be quite the operation once finished (but, will it ever really be finished?). You sure picked the right concrete company, they are on the ball! Be well, be safe!
