I’m pretty sure genya has asthma. He cant use breathing because he has problems with breathing, and so he can’t use total concentration. Breathing isn’t some elemental power, it’s just adapting the movements of an element, like the fluidity of water or the power of fire.

Your idea of Genya possibly having affinity for something like steel is a really interesting one! The possible blend of Stone and Flame made me think of the Metal and Lava bending styles that appeared in The Last Airbender and Korra. So the idea of steel breathing and the molten element of how it's forged is a really intriguing concept for Genya. That or he might have been meant to become a new type of swordsmith 😂

It's hard to nail down what he'd use if he could, though given his preference for firearms and how adaptive his fighting style is Sound Breathing might make sense since it's more unconventional compared to normal techniques and involves the use of tools outside of a sword.

One would assume the Five Senses would make it easy to nail down with one sense being particularly essential to each style, Smell - Water Touch - Wind Hearing- Thunder But then it gets screw with Eyesight which is associated with Flower breathing, which is an offshoot of Water Breathing, which effectively shoots the theory in the foot.

Genya having moonbreathing would’ve been wild. I do wish he would been the protagonist or at least part of the trio

I think Genya using an offshoot of Stone Breathing makes a lot of sense. Along with the points brought up in the video, its been mentioned by Meti in his Gyomei video (one of my favorite videos btw if you haven't watched it) that Stone breathing seems to be based in ranged combat based on Gyomei's usage of it. I think if Genya were to develop his own style (personally I like the idea of it being called "Lead Breathing"), I feel like it would be an almost entirely ranged style, perhaps ditching the sawed off shotgun and sword style to, to keep it historically accurate to the time period of the series, instead use a Winchester Model 1897 otherwise known as, The Trench Gun. I think Genya going to a full size shotgun with a bayonet would be a solid evolution of his current fighting style and could open up opportunities for some really cool Forms.

Smoke Breathing as a Offshoot of Fire Breathing based around the concept of keeping things hidden, from the fact he uses guns to him eating demon to become stronger, and that the demons he faces never really see his attacks coming or pay very little attention to him. Smoke is also toxic to inhale which I feel fits Genya perfectly imo.

Genya has Yellow Highlights and Eyes as a Demon,Yellow especially a Yellow Thunder Streak is related to Thunder Breathing wich even it's variation of Sound Breathing being a Golden maybe kinda Orange Color,Genya is also the brother of the Wind Hashira so him being his brother and using thunder would parallel his brother being related to wind since Fujin is the Wind God and his brother Raijin is the Thunder God.

I'm gonna be weird and say that Genya's offshoot of Flame Breathing would have been Smoke Breathing, and would have probably revolved around using his nichirin sword and shotgun in a more effective combo. However, the only way for that style to have developed fully would have been if Genya didn't discover his affinity for consuming demon flesh.

It's funny cause I actually thought of a Demon, a Western Demon, who'd develop his own fighting style called Breath of Iron, which focuses a more western sword style due to the Demon taking the form of a Knight covered it Blood Armor.

I think Genya having a sun breathin afinity makes way more sense than one might think , It's said that theres a pattern of black blade bearers having short lived careers and having a black blade is seen similarly as being cursed , which makes sense since sun breathing is basicaly a dead art that nobody could ever learn after Yorichi's death , making anyone born with a sun breathing afinity after that completely usless except Tanjiro that had already learned sun breathing forms as a child . tanjiro (being a great exception) having an extreme talent for elemental breathings in general since we see him perform techniques that he has no afinty for, like water breathing (with a higher efectiveness than someone like Murata that does have a natural afinity for it) and the leg work portion of the thunder breathing first form later on.

My idea of metal breathing is a sub-style of earth and flame. The nichiriin color would be orange like molten metals. And it'd be a Defensive style based around a tetsubo or kanabo loaded with niichirin spikes

gunpowder has its connections to both stone and flame and with it being almost the identifying factor in his fighting style, i feel like he could have been the progenitor of something having to do with an explosive style of breathing.

The idea of genya making a ranged breathing style makes a lot of sense, but maybe something more similar to beast breathing where it's self made, so something like range breathing or simply firearm breathing, Genya could use shotguns, snipers, pistols and, other guns at a range to kill demons, something that nearly no other slayer has, range, just snipe a demon from a mile away.

He could have developed his own off-shoot: Hate Breathing.

Great vid as always, but i would thrilled to see a building a bastard video around Hantengu and/or Gyokko. They are now in anime and I find that some of the deepest references to Japanese culture and mythology are linked to the upper moons.

Flame breathing being the “taste” element could check out. Look at Rengoku: “UMAI!” And mitsuri is always eating so it would make sense that flame is taste.

Genyas hair color does happen in the manga! It's just how Gotogue doesn't exactly draw colored hair the best... (Manga Spoilers) , as an example; its stated tanjiros hair turns a bright red when he activates his slayer mark when hes fighting against upper moon 4. and we know yoriichi and michikatsu have red tipped hair, except in the manga its just draw pure black apart from in official color spreads. same with Kanao! Her hair tips turn pink after she uses the Scarlet Eyes. hair color changing to signify a big change or growth in a person is VERY important to the Demon Slayer story.

I think flame breathings focus on basics would fit Genya perfectly from a martial art/swordsmanship perspective. I think his quest for strength would make him perfect for stone breathing aswell, he’s already bulked up from training with Gyomei, I think if he would’ve continued he would’ve been able to blend the two to create his own style.

I like your opinion and agree flame would probably be his closes match if not moon but if he isn't compatible with it than he can try deriving to make a new breath style called metal/steel breathing which then lean to one of the eastern five elements metal. This can style might centered around marksmanship or other forms of weaponry that are unconventional like traps different bottled substances like his shells or to throw that are used to add unpredictability or something. Most what i said was me agreeing while some others were my thoughts.

Fire breathers sense of taste coupled with the fact that a gun is literally just powder being blown up and burnt leads me to lean more into a flame breathing category like an offshoot of some sort maybe something like spark breathing to amplify the power of his shots or kinda like in mha where bakugo sets of mini explosions in his body hes able to amplify his strength internally rather than outputing it externally as most breathing styles do

I coukd see him developing his own technique based around misdirection with his short nichiirin blade, maybe pretend to use some form of attack, miss, the enemy goes in to counter attack and he shoves the shotgun down their gullet

The idea of each sense being tied to a core breathing style falls apart pretty quickly when you consider the following: 1. Tanjiro may have originally learned Water Breathing, but his true natural affinity is Sun Breathing. The fact that he and Urokodaki both had superhuman smell is coincidence, as far as we know. Unless smell is tied to specifically Water, but a Sun Breathing user can have any of the five enhanced senses since all of the other breathing styles are just offshoots of Sun. 2. Kanao, who has superhuman eyesight, is a Flower Breathing user. Flower Breathing is derived from Water Breathing. So if that theory were true, then both smell and sight would be tied to Water Breathing, which doesn't make much sense.

I'm thinking: 1. Breathing of Metal: Referring to the Metal slug he fire. 2. Breathing of Lead: Gunpowder. So a split branch of Earth Breathing, because metal is earth elemental.

I personally think a modified version of insect breathing would suit him the best, a mobile breathing that allows him to cripple enemies with poison and doesnt require too much strength. that being said there is still the skill aspect of it, which is why he should modify it a bit to go with his shotgun.

I think the easiest conclusion is basing his breathing style off of his demon art. Some sort of combination of things related to Trees. While unconventional I think Fire and Stone would fit because of their combination creating Genya's affinity toward firearms.

I know everyone is memeing on Genya’s “Breathing Style” being “Gun Breathing” and all that, but I just realized (as from what I’ve seen from catch/hunt and cook videos and advice I recall from various other medias as I have never shot a firearm or bow in my life) don’t you also have to take in a breath to compose yourself or something before firing an accurate shot at something? I actually think that genya would be suited for moon breathing spoilers btw the breathing style in its current form requires you to be a demon to use, something that genya, someone who eats demon flesh would have no issue in doing, moon breathing in of itself possibly represents strength but acknowledgement that the strength will never be as grand as some one else's strength as although Kokushibou tried his hardest he never made any progress towards being stronger then his brother

I will never not be upset that my fav boi Genya got absolutely shafted in the demon slayer story. That's not to say that the bit he did do wasn't awesome to watch but I was seriously expecting him to become a core part of the story/main cast considering all of them were tied into different senses and I liked his unique traits compared to other slayers a lot so I wanted to see it blossom into whatever direction fit best.

I was thinking Insect Breathing. It’s a style based around precision something Genya used with his short sword and uses to take the heads off of demons with gun not designed for precision. It’s also theorized that Genya uses the breathing form of a lot of snipers use to have more precision in their shots, a deep breath and a momentary pause. So yeah Insect Breathing.
