While Hairo's screen time is limited compared to other demons in the series, he is my personal favorite Lower Moon demon. With one of the most interesting stories for a lower rank, Hairo acts as a perfect example of everything that makes Demon Slayers great.

I love how this story represents not just how bad this demon is, but how rengokus dad was so horrible that even demons could recognize he was abusive.

Reminds me of the Last Samurai which basically was the film version of what Hairo went through where the Samurai were gradually wiped out by modern weapons. Kind of makes you wonder about the possibilities if Demon Slayer took place in the modern era.

Hairo also shows how much potential there was with the Lower Moons. Maybe have each be emblematic of a different aspect of Japanese Culture. Though now that I think about it the Upper Moons do seem to in some way represent different aspects. Daki and Gyutaro: Oirans/Japanese Prostitutes. Gyokko: Japanese Art Hantengu: Japanese Philosophy perhaps Nakime: Japanese Music Akaza: Japanese Martial Arts Doma: Japanese Religion Kokushibo: Samurai Culture

A little correction in regards to Alucard, his true form isn't when he uses the dog shadow thing, his true form is when he releases all restrictions placed on him and he reverts back to being Vlad Tepes, when he does so he manifests every single soul he has ever consumed as a sort of blood phantom under his control.

I've seen many wolf like characters in Shonen manga, but this guy seems to be the most animalistic and brutal. Possibly because that's part of a demons nature.

I really wish Ufotable adapted this instead of the filler for the first ep. It would add more context about Rengoku's accomplishments and give more context to what type of person his dad is.

Considering that the Shinsengumi were also called “the wolves of Mibu.” Hairo’s wolf style fits quite well.

One of the best demons honestly, bad ass design and cool powers. It's a crime he was only lower moon level, I'd pick him over Gyokko and Upper 4 honestly. HIm just randomly shooting himself when getting angry was pretty disturbing.

Dang i forgot all about this dude!! He was cool! Also I hope Koyoharu writes more Gaidens but has Ryoji Hirano illustrate them all just like the Rengoku and Giyu gaidens!!’ But yeah, this makes me want a Shinjuro Rengoku Gaiden. I bet man’s was cold🔥🔥

Glad to see time period authentic guns in demon slayer. After all it takes place slightly after or during world war 1, so arisaka bolt actions, maybe even maxim and type 11 LMG’s would be present in Japan. While not very effective against demons (aside from genya’s usage), a demon using them would be a serious threat. After all , ranged threat vs a Slayer having to get close.

Hairo's ability to shape his shadow on top of the shadows themselves being filled with mouthes and teeth is either a reference to Alucard from Hellsing (as you've stated) or Pride from FMA, who can also shape his shadows and later gained the ability to grow mouthes in his shadows. Another inspiration from Alucard could be his coat and use of guns in conjunction with his powers.

Another arguable inspiration for Hairo would be Rurouni Kenshin, specifically Makoto Shishio and Hajime Saito. The former in his deep hatred for the "modern" Japanese government, nature as a specter of the Boshin Wars, and even the detail of his original "Death" being that he was shot. While the latter has more to do with his past being specifically that as a Shinsengumi member and the Wolf theme (as Saito's nickname was the Wolf of Mibu).

I wonder if Hairo is inspired at all by Saito from Ruroni Kenshin who was known for being ruthless, having a similar uniform and a Wolf Theme.

@@MetiNotTheBadGuy Also you might wanna take a look at another Kenshin character Anji, who is similar to Gyomei. Both were devote Buddhists who hated violence, yet as a result of the deaths of several children they cared for, they to an extent embraced violence and used their strength to fight back against those who wrong them. Difference was Anji's children were murdered by the Japanese Government who were I think doing away with Buddhism as a whole, which caused Anji to snap and become a murderer and terrorist instead of a hero.

@@solidskullz5736 Sadly that's pretty much what fanfiction is for. Maybe we'll see something in another expansion showing things relating to Shinobu or Gyomei or the other Pillars and one of the Lower Pillars they might've killed in the past. We know none of the Upper Moons perished as Muzan flat out stated they haven't changed in 100 years.
