Her diet looks pretty reasonable and normal. She's not constantly cooking or preparing food and it's stuff that can mostly be cooked in bulk and stuck in the freezer for when you can't be bothered. Or in Tupperware for lunch at work. Compared to some vegans, it's pretty accessible.

🍓🍋🍅One of my favorite super rapidly made healthy dishes is🥦🥔🍳, cutting sweet potato into slices and backing them in the microwave, take some frozen broccoli and defrost it pouring some hot water into the bowl. After that, I make some fried eggs. And voilà, you've got a healthy, well balanced, super yummy meal. Especially, back in the day when I did triathlon training and I only wanted to fall asleep when I came home from training, this was my go-to meal. If you are training to lose weight, increasing the number of vegetables (in this case broccoli). Eating a lot of vegetables enormously helps to fill your stomach and therefore avoiding to overeat. =) Bonne appetite.

My Greek great grandmother cooked almost everything in either olive oil or butter, and didn’t really measure how much she used, and she lived to 104! It seems so crazy to me to cut out the things that make food enjoyable just for “beauty” and this ridiculous idea of putity. Food keeps you healthy, but in my opinion it is so sad to take away the things that add flavor and joy to life. So many humans still live with such restricted access to food, and we have spent most of our history with even less. To see people with access to plenty, restricting the use of oil as though it were on the ration seems absurd and sad to me.

Abbey Sharp my mother always tried to make her potatoes just right, and she laughed when she figured out the amount of butter that took! But of course Yiayia walked everywhere and was always active, though she never did what we would call “working out”. She grew up on an olive farm in Greece, so it was just the stuff of life. Her buttery potatoes were something to be savored, and enjoyed in moderation alongside a myriad of other foods, they weren’t meant to be worried over, or constantly calculated for maximum health benefit.

I agree that for most people, no oil is unnecessary and not beneficial. Moderation is key, and the type of oil as well. HOWEVER, for reversing heart disease no oil is super important. My dad had a heart attack a decade ago and has been on statins ever since. By eating a whole food plant based diet with no oil, he has been able to get off of those harmful drugs and is feeling so much better! Eventually he may be able to add some oil back in gradually. I just wanted to point this out. There is quite a bit of scientific research out there on this topic if you look it up. :-)

Do you know what virgin olive oil means? It means that it was made under a certain temperature, so some of the nutrients wouldn't get destroyed. That's why it's more healthy and also more expensive... If you heat it up, you're just wasting money. It won't hurt you, but like I said, you're paying more just to make a regular non-virgin olive oil from it.

@megan5495
@megan5495 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's more like "whole veggies is better than juice, and coconut oil based ice cream is better than sugary dairy ice cream". You pick the 'better' one out of each category. In Aus we have this *stupid* system where the government rates items on a 5 star basis, but the items are compared to similar items not to their actual nutritional content. For example, a cupcake might get 5 stars because other cupcakes have more sugar than it. It's not necessarily the best choice, but it's _better_ than the other options
@AbbeysKitchen
@AbbeysKitchen 4 жыл бұрын

I think it’s important to still understand calorie density in weight loss and recognise that for some people who struggle with overeating it’s easier to just eat those whole food fat sources (so still getting healthy fats) and skip the oil as an easier way to stay within calorie limits without tracking everything all day which can feel overwhelming 😊 each to their own though

Hi. I would live advice from you for dietary needs with those who are disabled like myself and physically unable to work out much. I do walk small amounts each week with my walker but really cant do much more. Since falling ill 2 years ago I've gone from a UK size 14 to a size 20 which is 3 dress sizes. I had medications that really piled the weight on and added bonus of hormonal imbalances. Now I cant shift the weight and really want to through my diet. I secondly, cant cook big meals myself. My partner is my carer but works full.time, he cooks the evening meal. During the day however I can only make a tin soup or sandwich, that's the extent of my abilities. I would love advice or even pay for it from you because I trust your methods. Thank you xx

Recovering Omnivore - Animal Based Diet but doesn’t the act of cooking oats reduce the phytic acid? Also from what I’ve understood, it only stops us from absorbing all of the minerals within the food itself. It doesn’t latch onto other minerals. By cooking the oats, we shouldn’t have much of an issue with the phytic acid. It’s not ideal but it’s not detrimental. At least that’s what I’ve understood but i might need to read more studies

The whole point of of juices is to *not* have the fibre, and like you said, to have a condensed form of micronutrients. Since she eats a whole-food plant based diet, sure, her fibre intake is nothing to fret about. Nothing wrong with getting more greens in- we all good use a big dose of greens :) edit: for the oil spiel, oil is *really* dense in calories- so if you want to lose weight, using oil all the time adds up the calories and you might feel heavy after eating veggies baked in oil... it tastes great and adds so much flavour, but i think it's good to be cautious about the calories per serving
@AbbeysKitchen

magda pie thanks for your thoughts. I get that, but then if she’s eating a whole food plant based diet she also likely doesn’t need said concentrated nutrients most of which are water soluble and peed out in excess. I would way rather see more healthy fats and protein fot someone who is already getting in tons of veggies (especially since Maddie said she’s trying to gain) and more whole veggies for the general population then green juice every day. Having said that, I think Maddie is Having it in moderation which is fine but I am flagging for the general population watching
