I just don’t know how to stop. I’ve tried so freaking hard to try to stop but idk why I just can’t. Although I have gotten better thank god, I used to fast and when I broke my fast I used to eat only 350-450 calories per day for a month and then I bumped up to 700-850 calories per day for a few months. I’m trying to eat 1000-1200 calories per day *my TDEE is 1200 cal per day and my BMR is 1002* so obviously I’ve damaged my metabolism so I’m scared of gaining weight. I used to do INTENSE exercise each day with my rlly low calorie diet but now I only burn 120-150 cal per day. But it’s so exhausting mentally and physically being not able to stop thinking abt the calories or weight gain, I literally can’t eat ANYTHING without knowing the calories and if I don’t know it I would not even eat it…. The worst part is that I’m only 12 almost 13 in July….😢 * edit * please give me some tips !

Horrible advice for a food addict (proof that not all health industry advice applies across the board). That’s like telling an alcoholic “sometimes it’s better to just drink the beer you were craving in the first place”. Or how about we talk about not giving into cravings and instead eat Whole Foods that are free of seed oils and inflammatory, hormone disrupting ingredients (like “natural flavors” aka MSG, or the litany of chemicals no one can pronounce that the FDA misleadingly calls “mostly not harmful”) so that we don’t HAVE to struggle with cravings. These junk food companies intentionally put chemicals into to their foods that interact with our brains so that we have more frequent cravings and that can absolutely lead to food addiction. Social media health influencers really need to do better. 🤦🏻‍♀️😑

Saving an indulgence for the weekend is absolutely a valid way to be in moderation. If I didn't have that structure, I'd eat the wrong stuff all week. I look forward to eating a chocolate almond bar all week. Whenever I haven't had that structure, I've gained weight.

Guys "Dr" Eric Berg is a legit SCIENTOLOGIST. Do you really want to get your information from a scientologist? There are so many better channels on here. Fun fact: whenever you watch his videos you're basically helping him contribute financially to the cult of scientology which essentially allows him move up the "levels". I bet he'd also love to recruit you if he could. Don't believe me? Look it up. His son who has escaped the church recently exposed him.

I eat about 2500-3200 calories a day. I can’t imagine eating so few calories like Miranda. I need more stub-stance than most. 🤷‍♀️ It sounds like she barely meets her basic nutritional requirements in that day.

Your honesty is so refreshing and inspiring. I've experienced the same restrictive style of eating and the high of the praise that comes from the weight loss I'm currently struggling with binge eating when im stressed. Which is ALL the time with a 3 year old and 1 year old. Your videos inspire me to heal my relationship with food.

I always try to tell my aunt this, because she's always going 'I'm not eating any sweets for a month before xyz holiday'. And to the question 'what makes you think you need to do it?' she always answers 'because I ate too many sweets during the previous xyz holiday'. And just like that it becomes a vicious cycle. If you feel like you have to cut back on added sugar - more power to you, I guess. Just be smart about how you do it.

Counter point - if a person who is eating sugar all the time and they really commit to actually focusing on low sugar, real foods for 3 weeks, they likely stop having the rollercoaster blood glucose/energy/moods, less bloating and maybe even have less joint aches, maybe then, they would be more hesitant to constantly eat the processed / sugary food...and be more aware of the messages their body had been trying to send them all along!

Abbey! I’ve loved your channel for a while and I love this video too. I’m really this video helped people. I also really enjoy your proposed language of “coping capacity” as opposed to “willpower” - I see what you mean about how language matters. And yes, you correctly understood the spirit of what I said! By working with my willpower I mean working with my natural energy - I find this to be helpful when you’re trying to make any major life change (whether working on difficult relationships with family, trying to start a new exercise habit, starting a KZfaq channel, or trying to recover from an eating disorder - all of these will go “worse” when my energy is low). It helps me to be honest with myself about when in the day my energy is highest. Thank you for weighing in here, I truly love your content (and my mom does too! Also a dietician) Keep it up ❤

RE the "willpower" discussion, this seems like a good place to introduce the addiction recovery acronym HALT/SALT. When an addict is feeling like they want to use/abuse substances or alcohol they are advised to check in: are they Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired? (those of us with food issues may substitute "Sad" because we may not know when we are hungry for food, and Anxious may be useful for some, vs. Angry). Understanding how the normal emotional flow of a day affects our ways of eating can be really useful, and "willpower" (with its implied strength/weakness paradigm) doesn't enter into it.

Abbey, would love it if you would review & make a video about "Bright Line Eating" by Susan P. Thompson, PhD. Bright Line Eating is a weight loss program that helps people rewire the brain so it is no longer blocking their attempts to lose weight. The program involves following four strict rules or Bright Lines: no sugar, no flour, no snacking, and weighing and measuring meals. What do you think? It looks completely not doable to me...
