Difference between Effective Cover and Clear Cover in RCC

There is Effective Cover and Clear Cover in RCC, in analysis and design of structural rcc elements we take effective cover into consideration, the basic difference between between effective cover and clear cover is as below
Effective Cover : Distance measured from the face of the member to the center of reinforcement
Clear Cover : Distance measured from the face of the member (without plaster) to the nearest surface of the reinforcement

Same concept is used but the change in cantilever is main steel will be on top side because tension is at top side

Nominal Cover means minimum cover to be provided for the rcc elements, it differs for different elements
