I got a old Haymen Reece Towbar for $250 off Ebay. I cleaned the surface rust off it and gave it a quick spray of black rustolium. Looks and works as good as new.

Another difference in the English language between the US and Australia. What you call a towbar we call a frame hitch or reciever hitch. What we call a tow bar (2 words) is an A shape hitch attached between the pulling and trailing vehicles. I have a Reese tow bar I bought over 15 years ago. It’s saved me probably over $1000 in towing expenses. A friend helped build a 2nd tow bar about 15 years ago which is about 7 feet long and it’s so heavy I can barely carry it. The angle iron is at least 1/4” thick.

You didn't give any detail about the quality of the tag towbar. Was there a reason for that?
