On tyres having a flat vs round surface… VF 445/50R22.5 -> Very High Flexion (better than IF) -> R for Radial so you basically have a separate set of plies to allow for a flat surface 16.5L-16.1 FI -> FI for Farm Implement/Farm Highway use, flotation of a farm tyre with highway speed characteristics of a highway tyre -> no R just a dash meaning it’s Diagonal = bias plies, structure can only be round (sometimes they compensate with the tread for tractor tyres)

Speed rating on tyres will make real difference to the way the tyres wear. The original were probably be "A" rating which is only 20mph. The speed rate of D is up to 40mph and E rating is about 55mph. They cope with the heat build up. If you are roading all the dills as much as you guys do you need to have a high speed rating.

I find the Goodyear tire comments interesting. We've had pretty good luck with Goodyears. 6000+ hours on an 8130. 4700+ hrs on Steiger 385. We had some of those Firestone 23 degree tires on a tractor. Those were bad for breaking belts and getting egg shaped. Hated those tires. Our tire suppliers usually recommends higher inflation pressures than what a chart or even the manufacturer recommend though. Nuts what good tires cost. . . .

It’s more about the fact that they used barely adequate tires, and switched for structurally stronger ones which suit their application better… Not really a question of brands, more about increased load and speed rating, upgrade from bias plies to radial, plus maybe higher flexion.

I would beg to differ also in Europe and I have gotten to the stage where I insist on a tyre change if I’m buying a new machine which comes with “ about a year “ tyres , we do a lot of road work and basically have never been happy with the performance of said tyres , in saying that they may have improved because it must be 10 years or more since we had a set , they were the straw that broke this camels back, less than a year c.1750 hours, buckled twisted and bald on a T7 210, so not pulling ridiculous weight , and only every had a five sod reversible for maybe 50 hours, got no hoop either when I kicked up about them.

They needs 5 drills at the South farm, Mike took his FENDT 1167 + 84ft 3320 drill + 71300 cart to the North farm so that would make 4 drills South. He still has an extra Bourgault 5710 drill with a 40ft Bourgault 4300 air seeder ( 300bu cart ) up North besides the big one. If he needs that small one the Case 9380 could pull it if it has enough hydraulic flow on the single pump, btw the 4300 cart has a double fan, Mike needs the JD9620R (on triples) on the South farm for this 84ft drill he bought from his dad.
@crandonborth
@crandonborth Жыл бұрын
@@ytfan3815 Right I know all that I was just wondering why leave the 1300 bushels cart up north where is much wetter and softer and leave the smaller 950 on the south farm where he needs as much capacity as possible as the fields are much bigger down south. It seems to me he needed to do maintenance on the 950 cart as they have a shop down south and then he will return the 950 back north and bring the 1340 back down south. Especially seeing as he is putting “surprise tires” on it as well, that would be a very good indicator he’s bringing it back down south to handle the much more severe road travel he and the rest of the crew does.
@ytfan3815
@ytfan3815 Жыл бұрын
@@crandonborth Probably you're right, both drill and cart need a major maintenance/upgrade so shop and people are available on the north farm. But question is, will the 9260R on triples pull that 84' with a 71300 cart, I doubt it, less problems with a 7950 cart I think.

@verlinswarey507 Жыл бұрын

@petermolnar8667
@petermolnar8667 Жыл бұрын
Probably the only option in the given size, just mount them backwards if it’s towed to avoid weird wear patterns. Why that size? You want flotation tyres to minimize soil compaction. IF/VF probably only available in this configuration as well. (Other low pressure tyres you’d find on a regular agricultural trailer would have too low of a load rating.) 🤔
@petermolnar8667
@petermolnar8667 Жыл бұрын
We keep rolling with thin cracks of aging too, but only do minimal on road and use few heavy implements. Tyres are expensive, especially if it’s a small operation… Just need to check every one of them regularly.
@ke6gwf
@ke6gwf Жыл бұрын
The tire manufacturers need a unique mold and oven for each product made, and in those large sizes that's an expensive undertaking, so it's cheaper for them to make all traction tires, because they HAVE to make traction tires anyway, and traction tires can be used on a towed implement with no issues as well. It also gives the implement better braking traction, and side drift traction in some conditions.

The conditions must have been something like… Very high flexion, low pressure, large footprint, high load capacity, to minimize soil compaction. Then you end up with what is available on the market, tractor tyres. But they’re installed backwards to avoid uneven wear from being on a non traction axle.
