Lovebites is a transcendent band with a global vision and a global mission. Their choice to sing meaningful lyrics almost exclusively in English - a daunting challenge for native Japanese speakers (hence why so few do this) reflects their depth, determination, and unmatched pursuit of global excellence.

According to an interview I heard with Asami she said the reason they sing in English is that they wanted their predominantly Japanese audience to first experience her voice as another instrument before diving into the lyrics and meaning of the songs

Let me explain briefly. Asami, a former R&B singer, became a metal singer in LOVEBITES and although she was confused at first, she fell in love with thrash. All members agreed that English was the most comfortable language for heavy metal. The girls admired and were influenced by many bands such as Metallica, Halloween, Iron Maiden, and Extreme. The rock and metal bands the girls listened to were English poetry. They interacted with Stratovarius, EXTREME, DragonForce, and others. LOVEBITES was offered directly by Herman Lee to perform in 11 UK cities on the DRAGONFORCE UK Tour 2019! The two-week tour was a huge success. 2018 Winner of the "Best New Band" award at the "Golden Gods Awards" ceremony of the world's largest music magazine "Metal Hammer". We were invited to WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018 and gained popularity. From Japan🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘.

When you can be amazed at every one of the songs, the different styles and subtle little things in what they do and how they do it, the way Asami's vocals are used to suit the style of music, you know that you're listening to heavy metal from #lovebites, simply put they have created their own unique sound and sub genre of heavy metal, and completely nailed it all. Miho the one who dreamed of pioneering this band, the founder and leader at one point wanted to be just like the British metal bands all English, they do have just one Japanese song but was later rewritten in English a song written by The Little Big Engine herself Haruna "Bravehearted"

Miho, bass, band founder with Haruna is a huge fan of 80/90's western metal. So she wanted to perform in English. Asami was chosen as much for her singing as her English fluency. Asami lived in LA studying Ballet in her late teens. Also final production on their recording is done in Finland by the same engineers that work with Nightwish. Again Miho wanted the band to sound western not Japanese.

The ending is due to they go directly into We the United (end of the encore) (The entire encore from this show is epic, The Awakening/Hammer of Wrath, Edge of the World, We the United. To me, to see it as one piece is worth the cost of the DVD/BR.) As to singing in English, I think the simple explanation is that they want to appeal to the same audience as their influences (who all sing in English) do.

Another epic masterpiece from the ladies. This is probably their progiest song to date with multiple tempo, time signature and key changes. It's melodic storytelling at its best. Asami having lived in USA for a couple years may have had a say in that so they get more recognition by western audiences who pick up on the english.

English was what the founder Miho/bass wanted. A more European sound in J/Metl and to get to Wacken Open Air and really by accepted they knew English was needed (hasn't helped as they still don't have a really large following...what is wrong with people). Miho is the true metalhead and was a big Steve Harris fan, singing in English would make them stand out even more in the J/Metal scene. Asami was chosen because of her voice and her ability to sing in English, albeit with an accent. She spent time in the US learning singing and ballet (that is why she is always so graceful on stage).

I've heard a lot of metal and a lot of bands since my metal journey began in 1971. There have been many bands where I have heard a song by them I call a masterpiece. Opeth has a few songs I consider masterpieces, as does greats like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica (agree with "One"), Led Zeppelin, Slayer, etc etc. When I look across the entire Lovebites catalog, this song is just one of many Lovebites masterpieces. Overall, for me Lovebites easily has the most songs I consider a masterpieces by one band. Their compositions are second to none in the metal world, and beyond. I think Lovebites has the greatest collection of riffs by any one band. I also think they have the greatest dual guitar leads in Miyako & Midori. I don't say any of this lightly, I say it from decades of music listening experience. Also, I did play keyboards between the ages of 5-20 (Berklee College of Music destroyed me as a player), I have have music knowledge. Nowhere close to being an expert, but enough to know what I hear.

Asami previously spoke in a TV interview about why she sings with English lyrics. One reason is... Asami: My voice is also a kind of musical instrument. The sound quality in English is a better fit for the metal sound we want to express. (I think this is a matter of rhyming in each language.She also says the following) Asami: For example, there is an English word called "You." "You" is pronounced with one sound. The Japanese word for "You" is "A-Na-Ta", which is pronounced with three sounds. Considering these redundancy issues, it's easier to write lyrics in English for our music. (In other words, in order to complete the sound that LOVEBITES was aiming for, I think it was decided that English would be more effective for the lyrics. Consider another band, for example BAND-MAID, a Japanese rock band that is often talked about along with LOVEBITES. They sing with lyrics that are about 85% Japanese and 15% English. I feel that there are cases in which BAND-MAID's sounds include melodies with traditional Japanese elements. When Miho and Haruna formed the band they wanted to stay true to the origins of Heavy Metal (Britain is the birthplace of the metal genre) and since Japanese wasn’t the language used when the genre was created English is so that’s why they sing in English and also as others have mentioned English is more exceptive in the world than Japanese also Miho mentioned in an interview that even though they are all Japanese sometimes Japanese songs are hard to understand for the majority of listeners so they chose English

Every moment of this performance is on a higher level compared to the studio version. Lovebites is not just the best metal band out there right now, but the best band period. This song is more evidence of this. 🤩🤘🐺

Lovebites were heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal of the late 70's and early 80's, bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or Motorhead. That is a probably big reason why they decided to sing in English! Awesome performance of this track! Thanks!🤘

Thank you for your reaction to LOVEBITES. It's amazing how you guys interpret the lyrics like poets. If I play baseball, I want to compete in the US majors, and if I play soccer, I want to compete in the EU. Founder Miho had a strong desire to compete in the UK, the birthplace of metal, and the EU, where metal was developed. In the UK, the birthplace of metal, and the EU, where metal has developed, English is used as the official language in most countries. Miho decided to write all the lyrics for LOVEBITES songs in English. Composer Miyako is not good at English, and since the band's formation, she has been composing songs that take advantage of the beauty of Western styles, but she has been composing them in Japanese mode in her head. Then, Miyako noticed that the number of words in the English lyrics did not match the number of notes. When creating a song using Japa Meta(ジャパメタ), there are not enough characters in English lyrics, and when creating a song that takes advantage of the beauty of Western music, there are not enough notes compared to the number of characters in Japanese lyrics. Japanese style (和式) = Japa Meta (Japanese metal) 私(wa ta shi)[Japanese]＝I [English] → 3 notes [Japanese] > 1 note [English] 「私は貴方を愛してます。」 [Japanese] (Wa ta shi wa a na ta o a i shi te ma su.) Such an incredible song. Stellar performance all round. But Haruna steals the show back there for me. So relentless. They have one song in Japanese.. Bravehearted which the redid in English. I like the original more. Lovebites and Nemophila write metal to empower and make you feel good. Love em both

Western critics rated this song on the LP at the time as too maudlin/cheesy in terms of the lyrics. The song is simply beautiful in every sense of the word. Some people have forgotten how to simply enjoy. 🎵🎶

There simply has never been a band with such an impeccable repertoire as LOVEBITES. I consider it a privilege to support them because in every aspect of their lives they are such gifted, selfless, fun, caring people and genuinely, more so with the arrival of Fami, a tight knit sisterhood. On social media they regularly post about how they will meet up socially, in pairs, threes or all together. They’re not colleagues or business associates but friends, yet the current line up all met each other through their involvement in the band. Watch them on stage, especially Asami. They smile, encourage each other and the crowd, interact with one another, in turn, but, for example, always stepping back to the drum riser to keep Haruna included. It’s this warmth and kindness of spirit that makes them my favourite band ever, and then there’s the music! Edge of the World, along with Epilogue and Empty Daydream, collectively known as the “E Songs”are almost revered by the Wolfpack, and rightly so. I am safe in stating that, because LOVEBITES have never released a single song that is anything less than anything else in their catalogue, I know for certain that every new release to come will be of the same astronomically high standard. Best band ever. Full stop.

If you reacted to the Heavens Gate version of Swan Song then yes the whole mixing was bad The 2020 version is way better and includes the Chopin Piano intro also the piano is also louder in the mix at the outtro as the transition also is smooth. They sing in English because their target audience is outside of Japan. They want to be an international band and English is more widely spoken than Japanese.

Maybe its because Japanese pronunciation doesn't sound good phonetically in Metal , and of course to reach a worldwide audience.
