Great Video Dr.Chau. One quick question - what is the difference between a Retail Pharmacy and Outpatient pharmacy ? Is it in terms of patient access ? That only patients with Rx from Dr. Affiliated to the institution get to purchase drugs at outpatient pharmacy outlets ?
@pleasantcarepharmacy9455 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Great question! Retail pharmacy usually describes a community pharmacy while outpatient pharmacy describes a hospital affiliated pharmacy. However, working in retail pharmacy and an outpatient pharmacy can be similar where you interact with the public more. That's why I said in my video that there's inpatient and outpatient pharmacy in the hospital setting. Retail pharmacies can be a mom-and-pop independently owned or big-box store owned while outpatient pharmacy is usually owned by the hospital or the healthcare system like Sutter, Kaiser, Dignity Health, etc... Hope that helps!
@AnishPhilip1005 жыл бұрын
@@pleasantcarepharmacy945 Thank you so much for your prompt reply this definitely helps. One last question - apart from the ownership and location of inpatient Vs outpatient are they similar in terms of basic prescription drug dispensing operations ?

Very informative video I really appreciate for sharing us. Also I wonder to know what type pharmacist you’re and which type is easier I am interested nursing but many people told me nursing school is very hard it has a lot of writing and the job is harder so I decided to switch pharmacy but don’t have any clue for pharmacy I am kind lost I don’t know what to choose while I am the first one of my family goes college without receiving any help. Also still I am struggling communicating English clearly and writing essays. I am fine now in college but I am nervous to university because of my poor English even though I passed my English classes an A. Please let me know if you have any idea which one is easier nursing or pharmacy and has less writing essays and presentation 💐

Is poison control considered a type of pharmacy?
@pleasantcarepharmacy9456 жыл бұрын
Hello, they often say it's the dose that makes the poison. Pharmacology/Toxicology often goes hand in hand. However, poison control is handled by Poison Control Center and that's not a pharmacy. Good question!

Hi! Since the time I made this video, there are more types of pharmacy. However, I would say that closed door pharmacy is a broad term. LTC pharmacy, infusion pharmacy, and specialty pharmacy are all closed door. The world of pharmacy is changing rapidly, so we will see more types of pharmacy coming out! Thank you for your comment :)

Hello, i am a pharmacist from Turkey, i wonder if you take pharmacognosy courses in your school and then how to use your pharmacognosy knowledge in practice? Is there a pharmacist like herbalist in your country?
@pleasantcarepharmacy9456 жыл бұрын
Hello! I think when you say pharmacognosy courses, it's the same as pharmacology in the US. Yes, we have to take all of those courses. In US, pharmacists are not exactly herbalist. However, I think there's definitely correlation. They always say it's the dose that makes the poison/drug. So there's definitely a transition from herbalist to pharmacist to toxicologist. Maybe in your country, they are the same, but here, they are 3 different professions. I used to be a toxicologist but now became a pharmacist. I love using natural herbs to help with common health issues, so I do practice a little bit of being an herbalist. Hope that helps :)
@mevlutakdag39476 жыл бұрын
Pleasant Care Pharmacy thx for replying. In my country toxicology, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical technology, and medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry are departmans of pharmacy and pharmacists in my country are not only drug experts but also medicinal plant experts. And we can not be a herbalist either but we can recommend to our patients medicinal plant products or nutraceuticals. Moreover, i said we cannot be a herbalist but recently we have had an opportunity to be a medicinal plant expert like herbalist. We call them phytopharmacists. So i guess things are a little bit different in the USA. For example, clinical pharmacist is new here but in your country a pharmacist have been able to be a clinical pharmacist for 50 years. I hope things will be so better than now for pharmacists in future.

Hello Harsha, great question! As the scope of practice for pharmacists change, the types of pharmacy will definitely change. There's oncology pharmacy, dermatology pharmacy such as Pleasant Care Pharmacy, or any kind of pharmacy that we (pharmacists) want to innovate and continue pushing the boundaries and creating new scope of practice for ourselves. This video is now 2 years old, and there have been many changes to the profession of pharmacy!
