Such an inspiration. I own a Wrangler ‚93, 4.0. 200k kilometers on the clock. Neither differential nor transmission oil had ever been changed. You inspired me to get to work. What can I say? All in all I drained 3.5 Liter of lentil soup and filled in more than 7 liters fresh oil. What a difference that made when driving. What a difference YOU made! Thank you. I used lube lockers gaskets for front and rear and you can reuse them they cost 20.00 don't have to clean the old rtv off

Lube Locker gaskets, like everything else in the world, are available on Amazon. I stopped using them.....they would only not leak about 50% of the time and it is too much of a pain when they do leak. RTV has never leaked on me a single time!

Adrian, I wouldn't do that. It would probably seal, but would defeat the purpose of the lube locker gasket. If you are going to use RTV anyway then there is no need for the $20 gasket.

Tungsten carbide tipped scrapers like a product called the Super Scraper are awesome for this because they work way better than a putty knife or razor blade. I usually use brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner to soak into old paper type gasket material that is stubbornly sticking to the steel surfaces.

What’s the time you wait to fill it with oil after torquing it down? (1 hour then torque down 30 ft lbs then just fill it up? Or wait 24 hours?

Use a chisel? No no, rubber mallet! Using a chisel could cause grooves in the Diff cover, and you'll get leaks! Use a rubber mallet and knock it loose!

+Nishant Gogna Yep! Rubber mallet is great idea, if it works. In this case and with many I see with RTV, they are stuck on so tight that I could beat on it all day with a mallet. But, good point, have to be careful if using a screwdriver or chisel.

After you rinse with the brake cleaner do you need to remove this or is it ok just to wipe out the excess, add the cover, and add the gear oil? Will any residual brake cleaner cause the gear oil to break down faster?

I'm getting multiple different answers I'm doing differential for the first time and I was told if it's LSD it uses 80w140 and if not it uses 75w90 and to figure what my differential is rotate the rear tire and see if the other goes in the same direction or opposite. Mine goes in the opposite direction is that LSD or non LSD? And what weight and velocity do I use? I'm right now going around in circles. And I drive an 89 jeep YJ.

love your Chanel question. is it possible if i had one front wheel off the ground a few inches and i pulled my diff cover off could the oil get pushed past axel seeal with cover off

Wouldn't a normal gasket be better for the doff rather than RTV? What was your reason for just using RTV?

Patrick Huttner RTV is commonly used for differential covers. There is nothing wrong with using a pre-made gasket, they just cost a lot more and I find that they don't work as well (they leak more often). But, it's personal preference on what you'd like to use.

I highly recommend Red Line. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Very durable, high quality oils.

I'm just getting into this, and I have to ask, how do you know the difference between a Dana 35 and a 44? Not sure which one my 2010 JK has.

A Rubicon should have a D44. The vast majority of other Wranglers come with D35s. Plus, a D35 differential is oval-shaped and a D44 is not even close to oval.

Question, I woke up this morning and noticed that my front diff was leaking because there was a lot of oil there and I was wondering if it is better to use a fel pro gasket or that R.T.V. Stuff I see that used on a lot of videos? Thank you.

Fel Pro gasket is more expensive but a better choice. I guess you get what you pay for ;)

I hope someone can help me with my following question , I'm new to the Jeep world , and i noticed the rear diff has a wire connection/connector (female part) to plug something into, there's nothing connected at the moment and I don't see the male connection lose anywhere , my question is what is that connection for ? Jeep runs good and 4x4s good as well .....

I was wondering if that differential was a Limited Slip? If it is, the tag will be stamped with the letters "LS" somewhere. If it is, I was wondering if you would make a video replacing the clutches in it. I'm kind of tired of numerous videos telling me, I won't be happy unless I put a locker in it; meanwhile, I find other videos where lockers made axles or pinion gears go crunch crunch crunch. All the while, if they took the time and a whole lot less money, they might find themselves doing just fine rejuvenating their LS clutches; and, that's what I'm looking to do.

Yeah, LS is a great option. My current project is not LS though.
