I flew into a tree some time ago. The drone fell down and all props got destroyed. Worst of all; the gimbal did not work. I searched the internet for a solution and found the the ribbon probably got destroyed. The I ordered a new ribbon on Aliexpress and in the meantime I searched for videos on KZfaq that explained ho to do it. Then I found your video. I studied i carefully and decided to follow the instructions step by step. I started the procedure a couple of hours ago. And I made it!!!!! I have right now performed a gimbal calibration, and everything seems to be OK now. I am really looking forward to the next flight! THANK YOU FOR THIS FANTASTIC AND INSTRUCTIVE VIDEO!! Whithout your video, I doubt I would have been able to succeed!

Thank you! I came across this video and it FIXED my drone! I don't know what problem you had, but mine was that the gimbal could not be calibrated. I could not move the camera at all. $15 + 2 hours of work saved my drone!

Yes!! My gimbal was overheating and just kept going up and down. Ordered the ribbon on Amazon and thanks to your video, I replaced it today. All is fine & good: no errors and I can fly again! SUPER!

Thank you so much!!!!! DJI wanted to charge me $130 dollars, I took it upon myself to identify the problem and came to a conclusion I needed to replace this ribbon. Paid $8 dollars for the ribbon and only took about an hour of my time. Glad to say my MAVIC flys like new again :) :) I subscribed I had a motor overload and my gimbal moved everywhere causing a choppy video.

Thanks for the amazing instructions! You just saved me $250 on a repair with DJI! All it cost was $10 for a new ribbon and 3 hours of my time - well worth it! Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for making this video. I recently bought a used Mavic Pro on Facebook Marketplace. When I got home, I noticed the camera was really loose and I realized it was missing the two screws that attach the camera to the mounting bracket (from a previous repair, obviously) and the ribbon broke when dropped the drone while handling it. I got the cable from Amazon for $11 and was able to follow your intructions to replace it. Saved my day! I thought I had made a very expensive mistake.

Watched several "How to" videos on youtube showing the ribbon cable replacement. This was the only one that went through the steps carefully enough to actually help me accomplish the task. And successfully I might add. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this.

@@Lola.Owlace Thank you, but there will be no "next time". After a total flight time of 28 minutes I experienced my first failure. Yes, I had the gimble lock in place. Hiked 12 miles into back country and 6000ft elevation change only to have it fail on me due to gimble cable. DJI product is highly overrated and way too fragile for field use. Frankly, in my opinion, they make junk. I'm a 35year electronics engineer and I'll never own another DJI product. Basically, they are china made junk.

thank you! just finished installing the $10 cable. Took about an hour but took my time, and amazingly my drone is back in order! My drone kept giving gimbal errors and over heat errors, after a while in storage. Probably got banged around alot during moving with no clip in it to stabilize the camera, but that cable fixed it!

I started getting the dreaded "gimbal overload" message and I learned online that the ribbon was the likely culprit. Your video saved me hundreds of dollars by doing it myself. It took me two tries, as the first ribbon I bought had a connector that wouldn't plug in properly and ultimately broke off. The second ribbon plugs gave me no problems. The video was great, but wasn't really clear on the routing of the new cable and I probably didn't route it as cleanly as the original. Nonetheless, I powered up and everything works properly. Thanks so much for making this video.

just had my first crash (minor crash) and my ribbon broke at the gimble. I have good camera feed and zoom but no pan or tilt. I was nervous about trying to fix it until I saw your video...good job, very detailed and easy to understand.

Cort Hitchens Just make sure you have plenty of Time and quiet, it took me about three hours, mostly because I did not know what I was doing and I had to keep referring to the video. If I had to do it again I estimate my time would probably be closer to an hour.

Thanks a lot mate!! I bought a replacement Gimbal on-line, which was defective. I didn' realize that I could just change the cabel (mine had snapped) watched your video, took the cable out of the new faulty gimbal, put it in the old one, now I am back in business. Wooohoooooo!!!!!

Absolute legend! Like most here, I was getting the gimbal error. Bought a cheap cable off Amazon, followed your easy-to-follow steps and it's working well again. The camera is slowly turning to the right, but I'll do another calibration and I'm sure it will be fine. The fact its working again now is amazing. Cheers!

I am getting the OVERLOAD error as well so I purchased the ribbon off Amazon. But I know nothing about drones, do you know if this is why I cannot calibrate the drone? Any help would be appreciated. I have not replaced the ribbon yet.

Thank you so much, great DIY. Getting the ribbon to the first gimbal connection was tricky, I ultimately shoved that one in first but did not connect it until the whole elbow-bendy bits were in first. First time at it didn't work, I checked over the replacement cable and it looks like a 90degree bend was slightly ripped. Got a 2nd cable and boom, everything worked as expected. You the man.

awesome video, helped out big time with all the tips and info about screw sizes and pre bending the cable. my gimbal is all fixed now. mine was shaking and getting very hot and finally got the overload error message.

Soooooo helpful I crashed my mavic about 2 weeks after i just bought it took it in to DJI and spent 350 on the camera so you can imagine how i felt the second time i crash it and destoryed my camera, but this time i listen to your advice n wahla im back up and flying THANKS A MILLION (matter fact thanks a 350) and i only spent 25 dollars on the parts i needed (gimbal ribbon and vibration plate off amazon)

This video is perfect the main thing I would like to stress is, get your bends correct if you don't bend them right in the beginning your ribbon will seem to be off. Great video!!!!

This was a lot easier than I thought. Just a process of elimination (sorta). The only I had with this video (not your fault) was that end where the ribbon connects to the daughterboard and the first arm, the cable twists around. It's weird that it does that, as it looks very unnatural and could damage the cable. I dunno, but other than that, great job on the video, it helped me out a lot!

Wow this is hands down the video I have appreciated the most ever on KZfaq! I had gimbal overload problem out of nowhere. Even with these instructions I had a tough time fitting the ribbon cable with all its twists and turns.. cant stress enough for other people following this to memorize those turns. In the end it still didnt work for me, starting up with overload message unable to do anything with the drone. I went back and checked all connections, and I did not have to remove the camera all again, but found that the last ribbon connector was not fitting correctly.. I guess I was a bit cautious did not want to press too hard on anything, but this second time I had nothing to lose kind of. Now the drone started up and I could fly, but I the gimbal sometimes starts with shaking, which goes away when I tilt the camera. Also the calibration is stuck on 31% so I guess there is still some issue. Ideas? Could it be one of several connectors not attached fully or would that just make everything not work? Like what is the purpose of each connector.

Thank you for this video! Between yours, HughTube and Mike Criss' videos I have a working Mavic again! I've seen comments about the camera clicking when it's freeking out which is part of what's brings us to these vids. I would like to suggest to the next person trying this repair. STOP after removing the gimbal from the drone! If your camera was hitting the frame while it was freeking out CAREFULLY AND I DO MEAN CAREFULLY. Pull the upright arm away from bottom, the aluminum plate underneath gets tweeked (at the two screws) and was the cause (in my case at least) of the clicking, it no longer clicks. I wish I had tried this prior to doing the ribbon change to see if this was the overload cause. If this works for you or need more details please reply to this comment. Thanks again digdat! PS. You can buy a new mounting plate/vibration dampener/a few other names it was called by, cost is 20 bucks ish. Buy one when you order your ribbon cable as you could end up like me and snapping a mount. PSS I ordered my parts last night and they arrived from Amazon this morning, should have bought the mount.

Great Tutorial, fixed it with your help. There were a couple times in the video where you were running the ribbon through the gamble and you were off camera, I watched another video to figure that out. Also in the other video he left the vibration plate on the circuit board (didn't remove the rubber bands). Other then that it was a great help, Thanks.

great video! I wanted to let you know I broke one of the rubbers on the vibration plate (in addition to cut ribbon cable, which caused gimbal to bounce and always point down) when I let a friend run into a tree with sport mode on :) I just cut a piece of black rubber band, looped it through, cut to size, melted the ends together, and crimped them down - had to repeat a few times. if it doesnt hold up, I will ask a friend with the wiggly 3D print filament to print me a proper replacement ;) Anyhow, thank you again for taking the time to create and upload this.

I had an unsuccessful first go at this. Turned it on after replacing the ribbon cable and the gimbal began to smoke. I think it's because it was pinched too much beneath the black frame at the top. I'm going to order another one and give it another go! Thanks for the tutorial

Great instructional video! Huge help in replacing the cable! Gimbal is working now! 30-60 minutes? LOL How about 3-4 hours even while watching your video! Boy you make it look easy! Didn't help that my replacement ribbon cable had the glue in the wrong spots so it wouldn't stay in place!! Also I didn't have quite the same tools and that made it harder. Those front clips were insanely difficult. I was so careful putting the rubber bands back on, but broke one anyway. The tweezers just didn't work for me - too big and too much stretching. I ended up hooking 2 paper clips through the loop and stretching it over and on with that instead. Much thinner and better and I didn't break any rubber bands after that. Also, a bunch of my connections had black silicone on them to keep them solid which I had to dig out before I was able to remove and insert the connections. Still - it would probably have taken me 8 hours without this video, so thanks!!

great video! even with my old, fat finger, shaky hands I got it to work. Just don't forget to remove the gimble support before turning the drone on. That's what damaged my cable. Thanks.

BAHH!!.. SUNDAY.... After 60+ flights I finally smashed into a tree..It was the LAMEST crash in an ~almost~..I lapsed looking at something..stupid mistake. Anyway I broke all the blades, and noticed the Gimble was loose...closer inspection revealed a ripped cable and 1 broken elastic gimbal band. Sunday night.. I did an Amazon order for 1) A replacement gimbal wiring ribbon lead. 2)A "Gidy" vibration absorbing board to suit the gimbal to replace the elastic band part. 3)A set of new low noise propellers 4)A Arzoic Mavic Pro lens hood/protector (gimbal guard without loosing any camera vision/movement) 5)And lucky last a screwdriver repair kit to actually suit the Mavic Pro Wednesday: Go Time!!!.. Summary... went step by step through your video and lol... 2.45mins later (on your 35min video) ...the bloody thing works!!... YOU FRICKEN ROCK digdat0 !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH Not so much for how much MONEY it would have taken to get DJI or the likes to repair it but MAINLY for the TIME YOU SAVED ME!... Hands down the most productive video I have ever watched...And after 2.45mins of ~stress~ :P when It fired back up, with no errors and a successful gimbal calibration..well.. you made my day!. CHEERS!.

Great video. Just fixed my Mavic Pro Platinum. Ready to fly again. I removed the camera from the plate without removing the rubber bands though. Didn't want to mess with those.

Thanks this was perfect The first go I broke the ribbon bec I'm impatient as eff and I started to get upset at the ribbon not bending the way I wanted it to. Reason was I didn't follow your advice of pre bending it. Second go I did it. lol I feel like a surgeon hahah

Thanks! Saved me £250 and a lot of waiting! :) Fairly easy surgery up to the bends in the new ribbon, I had to give myself a little time out :D (liked and subbed)

Big Thanks To You Today! Successful Ribbon cable replacement done this evening! Gimbal Calibration-IMU Calibration success! I'd still like to say that DJI really needs to update the way the camera hooks up as the ribbon is really an archaic idea and one that I've fought with since the P3Pro days. I wonder if the newer models still have this fragile cables (aka cash grab) or did they finally give in and just put a real cable link?

Another great video and love that the MP is so easy to work on. I have to replace my whole gimbal and this saved me from paying someone. Or making a insurance claim lol. Anyway you can make on on how to replace the motor arms lol mine snapped in the crash also.

Great video, thank you for taking the time to upload. Do you have a still frame of the cable after you bent it? You're right, it is quite tricky to get right :p
