Join me and "J Three B Digg'n Canada" as we explore and dig out an old bottle dump in search of historic eating utensils from the Orillia Asylum for Idiots in Orilla, Ontario. Now, that is the original name from the 1800's and it was changed to the Ontario Hospital School Orilla (OHSO). J3B and I had found some of these spoons while metal detecting the surrounding fields. This is where the farmer boiled up the slop using rubber tires for heat. He then fed the delicious and nutritious stew to the pigs and tossed the non-edible trash onto this pile.

My great grandfather and his sons would bring the food 'home' , cook it up and feed the pigs. The second cooking helped remove the smell from the oyster shell..

I'm a Georgia boy, but I married a girl from Aurora Canada. They love the outdoors, especially Algonquin Park and Arowhon Pines. Took a limosine up there one year from Pearson Airport and passed through Orillia, the home of Gordan Lightfoot. One of my favorite singer/songwriters.

Those cups might be bakelite. Early 60's is a little late, but ya never know..Brylcream was really popular back in the day. I remember having a DA (haircut AKA "duck's ass") as a little kid and I'm pretty sure that's what they used on it to keep it glued in place. Before that, it was Pomade and Dapper Dan (also a type of pomade) as seen in the movie "Brother Where Art Thou".

@1:58, the old farm across the street has an identical setup(missing the pan). It was used to produce syrup from either sugar cane, or sorghum. Louisiana. They didn’t use rubber tires as fuel though.

When I was about 12 or 13 me and a cousin found a whole case of beer on the side of the road one day. I'm assuming for it to be left behind some older teens got scared and hid it from the cops. We took the beer home to his house and poured it in a trough for his two pigs. We laughed so hard watching those pigs try to root around while staggering, and trying not to fall.

I had a friend with a beer drinking donkey. He would hold the bottle in his teeth, tip his head back and drink it. I asked him how much beer does it take to get a donkey drunk. He told me "about a case".

@DFDuck55
@DFDuck55 6 жыл бұрын
The cups looked like they are made from Bakelite (aka Baekelite), developed by Belgian-American chemist Leo Baekeland in 1907. It is the very first synthetic plastic ever made. You can still buy dishes made from it. -- I'm old enough I recognized the window weight :> -- Brylcreem is a British brand of hair styling product for men, created in 1928 by County Chemicals. When I was a kid the Brylcreem TV jingle was "Brylcreem - A Little Dab'll Do Ya! Brylcreem - You'll look so debonair. Brylcreem - The gals'll all pursue ya; they'll love to run their fingers through your hair!". Ronald Reagan used Brylcreem.

Carol V I agree with you Carol , I've often imagined what the majority of the people who were institutionalized at the property went through . The family that I lived with at the time often would go to the hospital and we would take a few of the patients to our home and property for day trips , I remember some of people and what they would tell us about the things they went through while in the hospital, it's sad that so many people suffered at the hands of the government and the pharmaceutical industry all because of the profits that were going into the pockets of those wealthy businesses, thanks for your comment Carol.
