We had an old 760 Massey that used cherry wood for center support of the header drive shaft. We’ve also used Osage orange for old offset disc/gang bearings. Good luck on the restore!

Young ones wouldn’t know what to do on that combine. There no buttons, computers, ac, cab, wipers, just iron things that you push and pull and no labels. Man those were the days weren’t they.

Good times for sure! Wiring harness has 8 wires 2 for amp gauge one for oil pressure 1 for oil pressure 1 for water temp 1 power in 1 power out. I added one with a fuse 😂. Simple stuff works

Most of the wood used on old Gleaners is White Oak, The blocks you made for the separator clutch should be oil soaked as well as the boards for the bat reel as it keeps them from dry rot and somewhat water resistance. I really doubt a dealer will have any of the wood you need and if they do they will want more than the old combine is worth for them ! I made a video on greasing sealed bearing you might want to watch, It has sure saved me a lot of time and money over the years doing this and those old Gleaners are full of sealed non greaseable bearings. A 1/16" drill bit a grease needle and a little Permatex is all you need to keep the old girl happy as well as your wallet ! Bandit

Hello, from here in the United Kingdom. Im finding your videos very interesting. Not much information on Gleaners over here. Gleaner production stopped here in 1970. Those wooden blocks are what we call here in the Uk beach wood. The straw walker bearing are beach wood too. I know your machine has bat reel but the slats on a tine pick up reel like my Gleaners have are beach wood too. The spokes on the reel you pointed out are made from Ash wood. The wooden reel bearings are made from a reel hard wood of some sort similar to what would be use on sailing boat rigging. Just American hard wood will do.

Can I bring my 428 cockshutt or my Massey Harris 90 combine and have a race😂😂😂 they are in the scrap yard making china steel better. The 428 got for free put a new 265 Chrysler Flathead in it. Frick I was young then now I'm... Went right through and used both of them for a few yrs. The MH had a straight cut header for it. It's still in the shed as red as it was when they be bought the combine in the 50's. It was here when we came here.

Combine racing would be fun, it would likely end in a crash!

@Digginok2 ай бұрын
I used oak, what I had. These blocks see little use, cypress may be best for bearings. Another guy mentioned maple, if I’m not mistaken the Kansas boys that built these used something local to the area. Thanks for watching Bill

Inquiring minds want to know if we'll see you on a skateboard on that half pipe?! LOL I'd sure not be disappointed to see it pick, but I've been trying to buy an Allis Chalmers model 66 pull type. So I may not be a good judge of fixing old equipment, at least according to my wife! As for your wooden "bearing blocks" for those rods, if you have any Osage Orange "hedge" that would last forever and take oil or grease well enough to keep it free.
@Digginok2 ай бұрын
Short answer? No. I did help my son build it, long answer? Heck no. Osage orange would last longer than the cockroach most likely. But working with it would likely dull every single tool that touches it. Steel is much easier to work with I think?

A6 is a case pull type? I’d love to find a pull type to run behind the 930. My grandfather farmed with a few DCs back before my time. Not sure he ever had a case combine. Mostly John Deere and gleaner in our area. The first combine I ran at age 8 was a Deere 55, about the size of this A gleaner.

If the cows get full, and there's still some left, get some goats. See? I hit the Easy Button so you don't have to. 🤣
