When you see the amount of new features that the first Digitakt received during it's life, it would really surprize me that Elektron wouldn't add manual slicing. Heck, more than a year ago we didn't have slicing at all. I'm excited to see where they're gonna push the potential of this unit and I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Zooming in on the source page is a pain, yeah. I’m hoping they let you do that in an update because it can’t be hard to do. It wouldn’t surprise me if the slice mode comes in time. I mean, how many years was “song mode” a never ever meme.
@groovining3 ай бұрын
Yea both those features seem pretty easy to implement so hopefully they will come. They've even got zoom in the samle recording edit screen but for some reason still left it out of the sampling window. ✌️🚀
@mgband2 ай бұрын
First off, I am big on the Elektron workflow so this was always going to be something I was going to add to my setup. However, having used it pretty extensively I can attest that there are a few obvious features that need to be added for this to be THE sampler. Global mix is a big one. So is manual sample slicing. I also ran into a few bugs. I am certain they will add global mix and squash those bugs, but I am unsure about them adding manual slicing as the Octatrack handles that pretty well. If you KNOW you want this as your sampler, you can buy now and jam with it while you wait for them to add those things, or you can wait for them to add them. It is up to you.
@groovining2 ай бұрын
Yea global mix seems to be something they just forgot. I was looking for it as I'm sure it was on the old one. Manual slicing is huge for me 2, I don't understand why some people don't think its important. Everything from breaks to resampling would benefit massivly from proper slicing. I have high hopes they will include it at some point whether it's overlaps with the Octatrack on not. At this point they're going to need to take the Octatrack 2 to a whole new level to attract people over the Digitakt.✌️

Mate, spot on. I've given the company a pass in the past thinking one thing can't satisfy everyone. But you're right, here in the States this thing costs a grand! Shouldn't compromise for that price. I was thinking about selling my mk 1 and a few other things to get this, but think I'll wait to see what happens in future updates for now.

Yea I'm glad I purchased the Digitakt Mk2 and it was a present to myself for reaching 10,000 subs. But I fully get why you would want to wait. I love Elektron but don't agree at all with not including slicing on this maschine when all the architecture etc is all there ready to go. £900 is a lot of money at the end of the day. Looking forward to the update! Cheers for the comment ✌️😊

You forgot to mention the excruciatingly painful sample uploading speed and the lack of overbridge. I sent mine back and went back to my OT. When the DT 1 came out there was very little else you could use that was so portable and so unique now times have changed and there are plenty of small for sampler options out there. You could get two Roland SP404 mk2's for the price of this (if that's your thing). I persoanlly went back to my Octatrack, after not getting on with the DT2, Elektron need to release a new flagship Sampler IMHO. However, great update for the OG DT owners.
@groovining2 ай бұрын
Yea the lack of overbridge is annoying for sure. If I had an Octatack to use I would probably have done the same but I'm sure there will be a new £1500+ sampler coming in the next few years. Is a great update from the Digitakt 1 and page loop by itself has made it far more enjoyable to sequence with. The FX on these boxes just seem far superior to the Octatrack even if its such a versatile machine. Octatrack 3 would be fire✌😊

@groovining2 ай бұрын
Thanks John, Yea for sure - i'll do lots more on the Digitakt in the future. I use quite similar techniques to how I do things in Renoise/Logic. I generally build up 1 or two main ideas in the loop stage as deep as I can go. Then spread them out and develop the existing elements whilst also adding a few new ones etc. I definitly find if I try and go to a full arrangement too soon, it gets really difficult to finish the tune. ✌😊

Very nice review. I recently got a used Pioneer SP16 as my main unit for drums and sampling, and I have been loving it so far. Your take on the Digitakt however has awakened a little bit of gas, I must admit. I'll hold of for a while and see what Elektron still has in store in the near future regarding the firmware.
@groovining2 ай бұрын
Hey nice! I've looked at the Pioneer SP16 a few times also. Seems like a fantastic ideas generator and not overly complicated. The Digitakt 2 makes a lot of sense in my workflow as I use trackers a lot and also other Elektron devices so its easy to dive straight in. I think its great as it is but also understand why someone would hold off for a bit. Give it 6 months & master the Pioneer SP16 in the meantime & hopefully we'll see a couple of nice upgrades from Elektron on this! ✌😊

Interesting about the sound quality - last time I had an Elektron and loaded up samples I was sure that kicks were losing a little bit of super low clarity and hats/claps etc, were losing a bit presence, almost like everything was being bandpassed tiny bit... the Analog Rytm and Octatrack definitely had this imo, at least I always found I just preferred samples straight from Ableton! Great review btw!

Thanks mate! Yea I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the Digitakt 1. From my understanding the Digitakt is a little different from the Octatrack so probably also from the Analog Rytm. People generally prefer the sound of the Digitakt. There is definitly some colouring to the sound & tracks you make in the Digitakt which I've always quite liked. The fx are also great in the Digitakt from reverb, delay, chorus, overdrive, compression etc. They're all solid. 😊✌️

Thanks for your thoughts on it. I’ve got a question through - how are you using TwistedWave and Renoise to make slices work with the DT2? Are you adding in slice markers and the DT2 can read those from the file for playback? Are you slicing and then re-positioning the slices to fit evenly within a unit of equally spaced samples so that grid mode works? I’m curious
@groovining3 ай бұрын
All good mate :) - I've just got to edit the next part of the video but it should be up this evening/tomorrow. I go over my whole process on breaks but I essentially use digi chains to evenly space individual hits or chunks of breaks that so I can precisely put my slice markers where I need them. Then load into Digitakt and slice by grid ✌️🚀

I was determined to buy the Polyend Tracker+ but now that I see your review I'm not sure. Which one would you choose for a dawless setup?
@groovining2 ай бұрын
I think you could be very happy with both to be honest. I had the Polyend tracker original & enjoyed it but thought the Digitakt was more suited to my needs. I already use Renoise which is a DAW tracker & find that easier to work with than the polyend. I'd will say the Digitakt is a very creative and unique device to work in. Much more than any other hardware sampler i've used. It leads you into lots of intresting directions & now the Digitakt 2 fills in a lots of the drawbacks I had with the first. If you do actually buy a polyend or digitakt, if you use the affialite links in the description of this video would be super amazing for me as i get a 5% kickback 😊 cheers mate

It does do slicing, very well in fact. It also does manual slicing (which I assume you are referring to) if you use the one-shot machine. But it does help to prepare your breaks on a computer so your loops are quantised. I do that anyway so no different personally. If I were to sample direct from records into the DTII, I'd chop samples in one-shot mode and make Sounds/Presets of each slice.
@Screenshot1015Ай бұрын
@@lstlvls2521 it doesn’t do it as well as the octatrack the MPC the M8 or the sp404mk2 seems like a glaring shortfall for a premium product in the $1000 range. I know it has plenty of fans but this is simply a fact with the digitakt. Elektron owes its supporters more.

@groovining2 ай бұрын
Yes Grid mode slices a break or sample at even divisions. However what we want is manual slicing. If a break has swing or you want to slice up resampled chords etc, having manual slicing is the best for this. Being able to zoom in the wavefrom would help a lot also. 😊

I wouldn't reccomend it for sound design. Something like the Syntakt or Digitone would be better. The Digitakt 2 is amazing from drums & creative idea generation.
