Such a detailed declutter! Thank you for saying realistic points on keeping subscriptions or following accounts when the data, especially emails, occupies the servers. When emails are removed, it lessens carbon footprint so I tend to delete emails that are from 2 years ago or more!

Exactly! 💪 earlier this year I also went and deleted all of my Facebook photo albums (except ~4). Given I had +60 though, figured that’ll make a tiny dent in those servers 😂 every bit helps!

One task in my monthly reset is to review photos from the previous month and delete as needed. I always find random screenshots or multiples of the same (dog) photo that can be deleted.

That’s a good way to go with it! Vogel said that during his last photo declutter he’s reflected more on what he actually cares to keep after the fact, so he can be more mindful when taking the photos as to what will actually get kept after the fact 😅💜 I need to do the same

I’m really good at digital cluttering as I go, after I had a big declutter a few years ago. My ebooks still get out of control though because I always grab a bunch of free ones. Around this time each year I sit and read the first paragraph of everything and remove the ones that are not holding my interest then organize the rest in my Kindle app. I’m probably missing a few books that get good a bit later, but this year I got rid of 160 ebooks and the rest truly have my interest and are easier to see and hopefully get around to

Woo! Had to take notes for this one ♥️ One thing I would add for Social Media (or I'm sorry I may have missed it) is to check your security settings. Make sure things are still hidden that you want hidden.

I pretty much do a digital declutter on my phone every time I sit for any length of time in a bus, tram or doctor's office. I have few if any apps on my phone except for things I need functionally. The only ones I keep that I don't use - are the ones that I can't delete because they come with the operating system. Those are the ones that I put in folders and ignore them. For email and so on - I was an IT professional before I retired. Zero inbox email is my way of life. I can't bear having old emails in my inbox - it causes me mental pain.

@@EnabiSeira *Step 1* : If you have a very full inbox - Start by sorting by date. Then archive everything that is older than 12 months. Don't bother sorting it because you'll never read it. The most folders that I have for that is a folder labelled for the year. If I have to go find an email in that year folder - I will move it to a more current email folder, Eventually, I will delete the folder. Year folders are only temporary to get a clean inbox you keep them for 12 months or less. Then. Sort the inbox by sender. You know your emails better than me - but do a bulk archive per sender - the ones that are important - archive in a folder system based on the sender, the ones that are not delete. I have a single folder called "Important" - where I put all the currently actionable emails, as they are done, they get moved to the archive. *Step 2*: Once your inbox is empty, whenever you check your mail - I do a select all, then untick the mail that I will read - the ticked mail that has no dates or urgency, get marked as read, and moved to "Stuff" folder. The mail that I will read, is read and archived into the folder system as they are read and actioned. So the only things in the inbox are things that I read and need stuff done to. The "Stuff" folder can be read when I'm in the mood - or used to unsubscribe later if I haven't read them within 6 months or so. I use Yahoo mail, gmail and hotmail rather than a personal email because I've moved providers a lot in the past - and they don't have formats that get obsolescent for older emails that need to be kept. They also have a huge email storage that is not on your PC.

@@EnabiSeira I have quick and simple solution to that. First you create folders by the years (depending how many years of emails you have). Then you create under categories within the years with the month (as if you organize photos, for example one folder named 2024 and within that a the folder named January 2024) and sort each month of the year in the same folder and from then on you can go through each year or each month when you have free time. Also, it makes you have inbox zero within minutes and every email forwards are easy to handle and organize. This works very well as someone who wants go through every email and also unsubrice them myself. I don't like deleting something I have not looked through, kind of a perfectionist.

For the photos and videos, I like to search for the current month without the year attached. It pulls up all the Month items ever. Delete any as desired while reviewing them for the list. Then, sort into a year or Month folder (tags work well too).

I try to do this all the time but I always get overwhelmed and eventually don't know what I need to do and the way you broke things down is really gonna help. hopefully i'll be able to get as much done before the new year begins. ☺

Just a tip for anyone else who also regularly has a bloated Watch Later list- if you hit the three dots when you’re in the watch later list you can clear all of the watched ones at once. Took me longer than I care to admit to figure that out 😅

A digital declutter has been on my list of things to do for a while. I have over 7000 photos on my phone.😮 I have tons in my email Trash folder and my Inbox. And files 😮😮😮. There are Apple file types, Microsoft file types, and Google file types. Some files are in all three formats. When I want a file where do I look? Password management. And what’s still on my laptop vs my iPad/iPhone. Do I even still need my laptop. My browser bookmarks 😅😅😅. Thanks for the ‘thought starters’.

I am too lazy to clean up a lot of digital clutter. I normally trash stuff as soon as I go through them. Then I empty my virtual trash can at the end of each day. Future Hannah don't want to pick up past Hannah's trash.

One really good declutter and I didn't hear you say it but I might have missed it is going into the computers temporary files and clearing those out since it's a separate file storage from downloads

I like to keep my documents organized, specially for uni, so one thing less to think about when doing a declutter. But my bookmarks, drafts and saved posts... Those are three monsters I'm afraid to touch.

Yeah those can be problem areas for me too 😝 my uni folder is beautifully organised….but it’s been 8 years since I finished uni so I think it’s time to delete the folder 😝

I clean out my emails daily, my IG and YT is every 6 months, and my FB is only friends and influencers' that I like......heehee......(which TBH isn't alot to begin with) and my phone apps are only what I use daily, so I'm good on the digital reset!! waaaayyy ahead of ya! But I know what you mean by getting distracted fairly quickly......oh look a squirrel....sorry what was I saying? Oh yeah distraction....see what I mean?? Horrible for it!

For accounts like KZfaq do you set amount limit, for example, only subscribe to 10 KZfaq channels or 40 KZfaq channels?

Not really, but I try to keep it to the people who I enjoy the majority of their videos. I mainly use my “subscriptions feed” to see who has come out with something new, so I only want ones that I am more inclined to watch in there 😛

I have 1,140 unread emails in my inbox. I just can't be bothered doing a digital declutter. It doesn't spark joy. I won't tell you how many videos I have in my "watch later" folder haha (it is more than my emails)

With that kinda problem I’d just pick a cut off of ~2 weeks ago and delete everything from before that 😝 if it’s important, they’ll email me again. I also sort by “from” and delete sections of emails based on who sent them 🤙 makes the process a lot faster

I have so much clearing to do for my teacher hard drive and past me has NOT been mindful of naming things with functional titles 🫠🙈 this has been really motivational to remind me it doesn't need to be a massive deal. Thanks Jess!
