Version 2 owner here! The version 2 mini game is a bit too fast on the original and it can be really difficult to get the timing right, but judging by the demonstration they've slowed it down quite a bit so it should be easier to hit consistently

It only took them 25 years. Imagine what will happen in 25 years from now, possibly two or maybe even *three* additional walk animations.

It's a shame how limited the Digimon Color is, but hopefully if it does well then they will make better colored Digimon v-pets in the future. It would be great to have a colored v-pet with all of the features and of the Digimon X.

I am kinda interested in seeing the hardware hacking community get a hold of this. I would be hilarious if Bandai accidently left the device's storage accessible from the type-c port we people start flashing custom rosters or make an English patch

My only gripe with it is the limited roster, I would have loved for these to essentially be ver revivals in color especially with the sped up evolution time, but that said I'm still super excited, I know for a fact I'm going to be filling out the albums on both ASAP, and hoping to see the next few versions appear in color as well

Personally, I'd like a color version of the X lines. I really dig the quest mode so losing it would be a bummer. Like you said though, it's an anniversary release that they made a bit more tempting if you had the original. I only recently got into these so they're not a thing I'd want to spring $60+ on it but if they sell well maybe they'll keep the color and backlight going into the future.

Definitely a shame how limited the roster is, and that it can only connect with other Color units, but for what it is, I like it. I’ll get one just to show that I have interest in colored vpets. I don’t NEED color, but it’s neat. The backlight is really what I care about. Really what I want is more vpets with more obscure or rarely used digimon. Don’t get me wrong I love Agumon like everyone else but there are SO MANY cool digimon out there that I can’t believe they haven’t been put into a roster yet, or have only been on a single device that’s 15 years old and was only sold in japan.

I'm more looking forward to the BE, but then again my first DM V-Pet was the VBDM Special then the Digivice V. The Bricks just don't appeal to me, but I can respect that Bandai is branching out for certain products. I just hope that the DM Color does well for those who are interested in it. I just wish we got information about VV, and the Regular BE, but I guess we will have to wait on those.

Wow, I do share the same bittersweet feeling as you following this announcement (leaning a little more towards bitter 😅). Nonetheless, you mentioned two particular points that really got me thinking: 1) The pixel art used in these devices (excluding the floating Koromon) are extremely similar to the ones previously used by non-licensed mobile apps from 201Xs... 2) As you pointed out, the pricing is just creeping towards of what a "potato" smartphone costs and the fact that Bandai is just shafting the connectivity of the devices to DMColour only then what does prevent me to just grab an old phone and installing one of the popular Pendulum "simulators" of yore and have both an extremely expansive roster and WiFi connectivity for "free"? I'm an old fashioned guy and really appreciate the analogue feeling of the physical devices (I do own both a DM20th and a DMXe), but I also cannot deny that an OFFICIAL VPet app would be more flexible, affordable and convenient to raise and use than what they do keep offering us. Im so excited for these. I've always loved the og bricks and tbh I never thought they would do this. To bad about the connectivity tho. As for the training on the v2 the mini game got super fast . Was just hard to get training done. Have mine ordered and now I think ive got to go run one of my og digimon pets. I just can't wait!

This is SICK!! I want this so bad!! I own like 10 Verson 20th devices at this point, this is the only other thing I'd be interested in getting aside from the BE. I reeeeeealy hope these get localized, but I appreciate the suggestion to bite the bullet and get the Japanese ones as I wouldn't be shocked to see these stay Japan-Only. Fingers crossed... cause I can't afford to preorder this or the BE right now... so I'm really praying these show up in the states.. thanks for all the info!

I feel very much the same about it, Humulos. I would LIKE to have it, but I just don't know if what's being offered would be enough that I want to spend the $50 (though that price is better than what I was thinking it was) plus the cost of importing. I've never been that impressed with the 16x16 color sprites (though I admit they do look better after adding more detail at a higher resolution), so it's not a big draw for me. Though I would DEFINITELY be looking to get one if a V5 rolled around...

I’m pumped. The color is awesome lol. I’ve been waiting for this since 4th grade (i’m 33 now). I had my VB turned into a brick. It’s more fun imo. So having a colored brick is fantastic to me. But to each their own.

The improvements are so, so painfully slow and incremental. We're still limited to those low-resolution sprites, the roster is beyond disappointing, and I have huge, huge doubts about the longevity of that rechargeable battery.

that zoom in was a missed opportunity for adding the triceratops face also, the v2 training is the v2 on wonderswan if you ever unlocked that, but the timing is just really tight so you fail more than you succeed

I'm pretty excited by this! My DMOG is hard to run these days due to it being so beat up, so it'll be nice to re-visit the original roster again. But yeah, $50+ is way too much!

The kanji of 色紙 (shikishi) translates to "color paper," but it's just the name of the type of square paper board that the illustration is being made on and does not reference actual color of any kind.

Although it is a little expensive, I am pretty excited for these. I really don't mind the smaller/unique roster because I like raising different mons and using my different shells. I have so many version 20ths but since they are all the same I just use the same device over and over.

This is kinda neat. I don't think I'm enough of an enthusiast to buy a V-pet for more than $20, but I'm curious to see how it looks in action.

I'm quite excited for this. Much more than the Vital Bracelet because it's essentially an update to the originals.The way i see it as someone who's been dying to get his hands on an original DM97, it's a throw back to 97, but updated and with new features. I do agree the price is a bit out there, does it justify the backlit screen, the internal battery and all of that, i think we'll only know when the devices drop, i say we call it a first step or something if these do well maybe we'll see updates for other devices as well. I'll be honest love the bricks too so i'm kinda biased i'll buy how many Bandai releases 😁😁 but i can easily give up my hunt for a DM97 device with these ones coming even if it's a hard bargain between paying the insane Ebay prices or the insane Premium Bandai prices...

Does anymore else besides me swap out the “guts” of Virtual Pets from one shell to another ? Last month I got the Black with Red X Digimon Virtual Pet at my local Walmart, and about a week later I found the Purple with White X Digimon Virtual Pet and I was unhappy with the Rosters on them because they just did not go with the Colors of the Virtual Pets so I swapped there Guts around and I’m very happy with the outcome that came from swapping them around. It had been years since I’d done something like this and I’m so happy I was still able to do this again lol.

I am absolutely looking forward to this more than anymore vital bracelet items. It was a fun little side project but it’s not the pet raising simulator I want out of Digimon. Honestly if Bandai would just mix the two items or just make a watch based virtual pet then I’d be happy lol. But yea I want this more than the new bracelet and happy it’s got a English premium Bandai release right now!

I just pre-ordered the BE 25th anniversary and just pre-ordered these 25th Color ver as well. Next thing I know 1 month before these release they're gonna announced Pendulum 25th Color ver. Bandai I love you because you guys are a bunch of sweeties working there, but goddamn, have mercy for my wallet and just release them as Non P-Bandai exclusive, cus we'll buy them anyway!

If the roster was bigger I would be interested picking one up, good news is that it made me interested in the Version X with its huge roster. I had a tamagotchi V5 I played with all the time as a kid so my expectations for roster size are a little larger

Darnit! I'll admit I've wanted the rechargeable and color features for years, but it seems like a huge step back for this not to be based on a ver. revival. I'd have no hesitation buying and playing with that if it had the same huge roster. This though? I still want it, but I wouldn't open it, it'd just be stuck unopened on my collectibles shelf because I'd rather have the roster than the color. At this point I'm hoping someone is going to hack together their own open source battle pet from a Pi Pico or Zero, give us a web configurator to build our own roster, and we can just spend 50 bucks on a kit and drop the OS onto an SD card.

One thing i’m hoping is, maybe because they can only connect with the same device, they’re planning to graphically update ALL of them over time.

Okay so on one hand,I’m really happy they finally are giving the “trash” (read: strongest) ultimates from the original vpets megas tbh. Even if some of them already had megas and they’re just being assigned now, it’s nice seeing the roster rounded out. It really super bugged me with the dm20th how they didn’t let the digimon in the poor care slot reach mega. I’m not thrilled because this could have been one device with all the OG DM devices folded into it, but maybe they will make this thing not cost an arm and a leg to get… Maybe if we get v3, v4, v5, and whatever else, they will continue to go the extra mile and give us megas for the poor care route digimon on those devices too… a guy can dream.

If they had both rosters on one device I might be interested, but it will cost way to much to import both, and all of these Digimon are available on existing devices (or BE Memories).

Really hope that they could do mass production at the cheaper rate. In 1997, there was this crazy deal from 7-11 that sold it at SGD 10 dollars. Everybody got Digimon to play with.

The word 色紙 changes meaning depending on how you pronounce it. One is colored paper, but the other refers to a specific, square-shaped cardboard-like paper which is used for art like this.

I want this to succeed massively so they'll entertain the idea of a DMX in color.

Sigh. Things we do for the things we love. At my country online retail, they only have 5 stocks for each color and the ver.1 brown only have 1 left. I can only find one retail shop. I don’t think some of us can buy it being twice of a price of standard dm vpet. Almost as a price of a video game. Might as well buy one. Good luck to the people who can get their hands on it. Don’t know if it worth it though. But we’ve been waiting for this for a long time.

Dtector had the best mini games. it had one of those 3 lane "racing" obstacle course games, shit was lit. i played that shit soo much. like 15-20 min runs, and if you remember it gets harder like every 30 seconds

Seeing as Tamagotchi has had color screen for over 10 years, I'm surprised it's taken this long for digimon to get a color screen outside the bracelets.

Going through From Japan options...what shipping do you, humulomon (and anyone else, who wants to share their knowledge), most choose? Surface even though it may take months, but perhaps avoids custom charges?

I would have liked to see dim compatibility so we get consistent roster updates without having to buy a whole new device but given how it's connected via USB C, I'm hoping somebody finds a way to jailbreak the firmware and upload custom sprites🤞

I do appreciate their effort but they should have added more than the 20th... Being the 25th anniversary you'll be expecting more... But other than the colored LCD and possible changeable background (which is a great addition)... They skipped cost and instead of improving the DM 20th they used the original vpets instead... I love that we're finally getting Digimon in color. Not so thrilled about the limited rosters, though. Why couldn't this have been a Ver. 20th, but with color? I don't get it. Also, I do agree with you. I don't like how quickly Digimon evolve on newer devices. You barely even get to see the Fresh stage Digimon before they evolve. At least Monzaemon is getting an evolution this time. I didn't like how it got snubbed in the Ver. 20th. Every Digimon should have a Mega form these days, or else it's just obsolete. Even if only one of the Megas can Jogress... Since they're scaling back the roster anyway, they could have at least had a Jogress option for the other Megas too, but oh well. I wonder if ShinMonzaemon is still a Vaccine type. The wikis don't seem to know what type it is yet. Oh, also, I REALLY hope this comes out in English. Mostly because when these devices release in the West, they add more color options, and I'd really love to have a "white" translucent device.

Gotta agree, with rosters as limited as these, I'd rather focus on the raising aspect and less on the collecting aspect. And since they are more unique per evolution, I'd love to spend a day or 3 with greymon, rather than have it evolve the next day. It doesn't really give me a connection to said digimon.
